Gift Cards for everyday purchases to double points?

Hey, what is that actually telling me ...:-| Ok, I just noticed the fine print, got it now.

Oh, I see you got the Mothers Day extra points too and the double points?? If my wish cards ever arrive, I hope to get those on my cards too.

But, I don't follow the receipts - except that you managed to spend a lot! I ordered $2,000 worth and a slab of that will get me the deals I mentioned I hope on my ipad min.

The above receipt is a graphic representation of a saving of $62.50 ($1,250 x 5%) A result of buying wish cards at 95% of their face value... i.e I spent $1,250 but it only cost me $1187.50, also while earning 1,187 QFF points using a QEDRWOW Mastercard for the initial purchase of the said wish cards :p

Just to update on gift cards ordered from National Seniors. After a very stressful wait for the cards, finally 18 days after ordering and paying, they have arrived.

I think this reflects quite badly on Nat Seniors. I got one of the last ipads available in Canberra at any Big W.

Anyway, I got 5% off the Ipad Min from the Wish card + $15 off as an EDR promo, + double points for an EDR Mother's Day promo.

Yes I only order $2,000 of Coles cards for $1902 from National Seniors for the olds.
RAC in WA are 2 days so they supply the Woolies Wish Gift cards where $1,000 cost $950.

If I did that on my Reserve I would earn 2.0 points per $ = 1900 points .

If I use my Edge at WOW to buy a gift Card (or to pay direct with the Edge) I would earn 4.0 points per $ = 3600 points, but would have $50 less. (though are then any mailing costs, and if yes then the gap is less than $50)

Another 1900 points is worth a lot more than $50 to me.

Now if my cards earnt at normal rates...

If I did that on my Westpac Black I would earn 1.5 points per $ = 1425 points .

If I use my Edge at WOW I would earn 3.0 points per $ = 2850 points, but would have $50 less.

Another 1425 points is worth a lot more than $50 to me.

Now each to their own, but I would rather just pocket the extra points at less hassle than getting the 5% off gift cards.

But then I am biased to use any method I can find to cost effectively acquire points. I prefer lower cost than this...but will take then none the less.

When I buy $8000 face value for $7,600 in Woolies gift cards I use Amex for the extra points bang for the buck. Tend to do this 2 or 3 times each year.
Cannot do Platinum Edge until July 21st when ATO gets expensive.

You are 100% correct..... but for me 5% saved is 5% earned  I use my 5% saved to fund the fee for paying my taxes on my favorite Mastercard at the ATO, for this I get a return of ~208 points per $1 or 10,417 QFF for every $50 "saved"

Just saying...

($1,000x5%=$50) & ($10,417x0.48%=$50) & (10,417
÷$50=208)

1/ Many people do not have unlimited tax bills to pay, or have caps on how many points they can earn on their cards.

2/ One can do both, but only if you need to pay the ATO.

But yes I mainly acquire points at much lower costs, and some at no cost.....but I need to eat, and don't have large tax bills.

Today I got our tax returns to review. The big outches were the flood levy and the health insurance levy which are both uncapped. Lucky I have uncapped credit cards.
Platinum Edge is a choice that many without tax bills should consider as the points earn is special at the supermarket.

Lodged mine last week, it brings tears to my eyes.

What's the conversion rate to sq...?

I think it is something like 3 per dollar but I hope someone who has the Platinum Edge Amex corrects my post as I don't have this card.

I though the Reserve earned 1.0 Point per $ & the Edge at a supermarket directly earned 3.0 point per $?

How did you end up with 2.0 points per $ & 4.0 points per $ in the calculation?

+1 for edr swipe perhaps?

Intrested to know what these convert to for VA / SQ

Edge enrols in Membership Reward Ascent

VA & SQ = 1 MR point is equal to 1 VA Point or 1 SQ Mile

1;1 to SQ. so $1 = 3 Krisflyer miles.

I don't move points to VA. Can't see the value in it.

I did recently redeem an award flight on MEL-CNS return on VA though ...but did it as partner award on SQ as it was much cheaper points wise and no taxes.
