GOOD NEWS! Krisflyer Miles to be extended until 2023 [previously April 2022]

A lot dried up as peeps started booking in droves….(probably to burn expiring miles). Hoping some will cancel/defer Now!
Can anyone confirm how far Infront I can book First Class?

I'm looking to travel June-August around the world 2023.

Thank you

When are the new expiry dates noted in the Krisflyer system?

I have points expiring in April 2022. My reading of the extensions is that these will now expire in April 23, and I don't have to do anything. It still says the points are expiring in April 22 though.

This hasn't happened to me, but reading the material it looks like at the end of April they will be extended to October, and at the end of October they will be extended to April 23.

That makes it tough, it seems alot of people fly business rather than first tho with pts.
There are only a handful of *A carriers that still have F routes - and LH only releases F award tix a few days before the flight. So I guess people book J to avoid paying F for RTW and only having one or two sectors in F.

They extend them when they are due to expire. And not when they have announced each extension.

It makes sense as some of the points will get used up by some people prior.

That makes sense, if you're not getting first class flights why use the points.

I need to use them tho, they'll expire. I'm flexible with travel too, so I may be able to work around it for 2023.

and it has been difficult for non-Singaporeans to earn KF miles through competitive credit card earn rates.

Not in the US. Very easy to do that. Look at FlyerTalk, there is a section for "Singapore Airline Krisflyer" "SQ Redemptions from JFK-SIN-MLE" 🤣

I do jest, but I am half serious, f you do look at FlyerTalk, every second thread in the SQ section is about a US-SIN-MLE itinerary in business class or JFK-SIN(first)-MLE(business) booking. With the occassional JFK-FRA Suites thrown in for good measure. And I'm pretty sure most of these are via credit card earn. Banks in the US hand out points like candy.

My first foray into frequent flyer points was with British Midland (BD) Diamond Club - a former member of Star Alliance. The route UK-SIN-MLE was very popular because redemption rates were based on zones and the cost of a ticket to MLE was half that of the ticket to SIN. Since the recognised route to MLE was via SIN, and since you could get a free stopover, many people wanting to go to SIN sought out this route - but always using BD points.

After all the excitement(!) of points expiry and then having them extended to June 2023, I ended up just using all but my total stash on 2x J saver rewards to LHR (Ret) in March back May, leaving me with 1000 KF miles balance. Thus, probably ending my foray into SQ KF after the transfer from VA before the “big devaluation” and then again before the “big collapse”!

When Ansett collapsed, I went looking for an alternate *A program and I was turned off by SQ‘s 3 yr points expiry and that concern seems vindicated. Back then, I joined UA MP (which also did a SM from my AN Diamond to UA Premier Exec/*A Gold) and that ended up serving me well. Although, the UA MP program has gone downhill, ironically they recently removed points expiry!

Aah, a trip down memory lane. They were great value. Did quite a few redemptions using BD miles. Also they were quite generous with earn, once achieving gold the excess status miles were credited as award miles.

Weird, I just checked all my miles are being expired by 6 months as per the announcement

But my Jan 23 points also say "eligibile for extension"

When do KrisFlyer extend the validity of expiring points? I have a bunch coming up end of month and still apparently expiring this year… it’s a bit nerve wracking!

Another announcement? I thought most were extended?
The announcement says all points expiring in 2022 get extended by 6 months and if the expiry of those is in 2022 it will get extended agian

But mine are expiring Jan 23 which shouldn't be covered at this point in time

That just means that you can pay (with $ or points) to have them extended. Note that if you are a PPS Club Member or a Solitaire PPS Club member, your miles will never expire.

You can only pay to have points extended once. Hence this column so you know which ones that are eligible to be extended.

Due to pandemic SQ has been extending the life of points beyond their normal 3 year expiry, and will do so for points due expire in 2022. Given the ways things are going, I would doubt that they will go beyond what has already been announced.

As they expire. So any points due to expire in 2022 will be extended by 6 months. So points expiring in the first six months up till June will be extended twice in 2022 (ie a total of 12 months).

So what you're saying is that my aug 22 points and Jan 23 points are both just saying eligible for some kind of extension?

Not "some kind". They can be "paid" to be extended. 6 or 12 months depending on your membership level.

Your August points though should already be marked for "free" extension. See below.

If you look at miles validity you will note that there is a 1648335646303.png at left. This indicates which points will be extended "for free" in the current batch. Though SQ have already announced that after the current 6 months, that they will do likewise for points from July to Dec 2022. Mine are shown labelled up till Aug. But we know that points expiring up till Dec 2022 will be extended.

Click on that a pop up appears.

So it my case I will get 917,324 points extended from June to Dec. In Dec they will be extended to expire in June 2022.

My 536 points expiring in July will be extended to expire in Jan 2023. No further "free" extension will occur. Or at least not announced at present, and I doubt that any further extension will occur beyond what is announced.
