GOOD NEWS! Krisflyer Miles to be extended until 2023 [previously April 2022]

So upon further investigation you have to call SQ to redeem KrisFlyer points on VA2… FML…

This is not correct, unless you're trying to add a stopover or something. You can book VA flights on the SQ website - as has been possible throughout the pandemic.

At the top of the search results page, you need to select "show flights for other partner airlines" and VA flights will show if available.

No stopover…. How strange I cannot get any flights to show up - I am doing as you say but in the app, maybe that’s the issue, I’ll try the website later.

Although the SQ website does say for all VA2 redemptions you do have to phone them….. Usual mess with SQ.

You need to use the website booking page.

Thank you. Silly me thinking the app would work and that the SQ website would have accurate information on it 😂. Thanks AFF!
At least the VA flights are there. I can’t get any *A flights to show….

Which *A airline/s are you looking for? Many show on the SQ website, but there are some that don't.

Keep in mind that you need to select "Show flights for Star Alliance".

Yep. I see nothing searching SYD to/from Euro (selecting *A). I’m looking for J options but not even whY seats are showing. Can’t see NZ across the pond and nothing to Nth America…

Edit: manage to see some whY on UA to LAX on some random dates.

The SQ website doesn't tend to show more complex multi-stop itineraries with more than 2 sectors, so generally for flights to Europe you need to call. The lack of NZ seats is likely due to NZ not releasing availability, rather than a specific issue with the SQ website.

Also keep in mind that many of the *A options to Europe involve flying SQ to SIN and then connecting to a Star Alliance carrier from there - these never show up online as the website doesn't show SQ flights when you do a Star Alliance search (and vice versa).

I've just dug out my list, and the SQ website should show availability on all Star Alliance airlines except AC, AV, AI, CM, OZ, ET & OS.

I have 218k points that will expire on April this year. If SQ does not extend the validity of points to another 6 months, what will people in my situation do ? (Apart from booking an award ticket by April) Will it be worthwhile to pay to extend the validity of my points ?

For now, I would wait until March to see if Singapore Airlines gives another extension. IMHO they kind of have to as it would be grossly unfair not to.

Literally don't understand any of it lol

Ive never booked reward flights in my life, just ended up transferring to Krisflyer December 2018, and basically Covid happened.

I got like 110k vff, 100k qff, 450k Krisflyer.

I don't card flip or anything, just don't fly and none of my mates travel. I just built pts up over a long time, that's why it stings.

I was thinking around the world first class? I got friends in Seattle & Boston. I have family in Italy, or I could lay on some beach in Turkey.

I just think 2022 will still stink to travel, restrictions, testing etc.

If Krisflyer don't extend, I could potentially just book to go do Christmas in America with my friends.

I assume most would use 2 X business class return but I'm single and their expiring.
If your points now expire in June 2022, you will be able to book for almost 12 months out.

So as you are nervous about 2022, you can book some flights for the first half of 2023.

I would wait….. BUT have your potential future flight plans ready to book very quickly to use the points just in case.

With what is happening in Singapore and around the world SQ would have to be pretty evil to expire them…

I’m in a similar position, used to (pre-covid) fly SQ a lot but if they pull this I will be actively avoiding them.

you could spend up big on junk in the KrisFlyer store if the points will ultimately be wiped. Be careful that any goods >$1000 will attract GST and about $150 in fees on arrival here in oz.

but what he said ^^ I cant see this coughe ending in 2022

I am expecting KF to do the right thing. Lots of people in the same boat. I had 400k VA-KF expired in December and recredited automatically. Another 400k - 600k in Amex-KF expiring in the next few months. All would have been used March thru November 2020 if no Covid. Luckily had 200k Spontaneous Escapes recredited which should have disappeared……..

Just make sure you tick international shipping because a lot isn’t available to ship to Australia…

You can book a ticket for anybody btw. If you have a work colleague or a friend of a friend then you may be able to book flights that they were intending to pay for - if you can work out a suitable saving for them....
