Why the sill 3 yr expiration esp during COVID???

I've got my first batch of Krisflyer points that I earnt from my first AMEX card, expiring April 2022.

Ironically, March 2022 people already have extension until September 2022.

Please report back if you have called SIA to have a whinge about points expiring in 2022.

I really don't want to have to pay to extend them, but is it only 1200 miles or US$12 to extend all the miles in your account for six months? And can you do it repeatedly? I know RTW tix would be hard to organise now with PCR tests and what-not, but it would be nice to do a Star Alliance RTW for 240,000 miles in J, vs using 124,000 miles just to go to Asia and back.

If i am not mistaken if points are expiring soon we can just book a flight that we know we will take at some random future date, and can still reschedule the date later for a small fee (currently waived i guess)
the catch is;
- if we cancel that flight after the points have expired, then 'poof'
- the booked flight cant be repeatedly extended forever - around 12 months max

do i understand correctly?

Yep!

This is correct ... at best 12 months from the date of first flight, at worst 12 months from the ticketing date - unsure with Krisflyer.

We used mrsdrron's points that were expiring at the end of Feb 2020 in Feb 2020 to book return flights SYD-SIN- BNE.These were for August 2020..
Obviously those were not taken so we cancelled the original flights and the points were back in her account but expiring end January 2021.We then rebooked flights BNE-SIN-BNE for last month. We were able to change those to Feb and March 2022.Interestingly the BNE flights caused her to have 3000 points left over. They are still in account to expire in April 2022.

When I log into my Krisflyer it states that my miles will expire Nov 21. We had moved them from VA and Amex as we were doing RTW J class.

Will they be extended automatically or should I phone and request this? I have no status with SQ.

I have seen the expiring miles message throughout the year IME the miles just roll over and are extended in line with what SQ has announced.

The SQ info here - scroll down to and expand the “[New]” (Jul 21 to Mar 22) and there’s a chart.

Yes, it’s a little frustrating that we have to wait to the expiring date to then get the extension. I have a bunch down to expire in Dec….

@SYD I would guess there are number of us (myself included) who may have large balances that will expire in Dec 21 as it has been nearly 3 years since the VFF devaluation. I seem to recall a thread and there were quite a few transferring VA points to KF.

Thanks SYD that's great to know we get an extra 6 months.

Matt_01 yes, that's exactly when we moved them over from VA because of that reason.

Hoping to get some use from them but not knowing what yet.

Yep. I had good intentions to have used them by now….

Plus, I hedged my bets on VA not surviving, so shifted half my remaining balance to SQ! At least I have enough points for 2x Suites (if I can get them!).

I am in the same boat, I had been saving up my points for more than 10 years (around 12) on my credit card before transferring it over to krisflyer, with the idea to use them up over the next 3 years. I got one flight done and then Covid hit :(. And now i have about 600k points that are due to expire end of this year that got extended till next year. Question is will they keep extending even after international travel has opened up? As I need around 2 years to use up the points.

I'll like to know this one as well, there'll be a large number of expiring Krisflyer points over the next few months with the near two years of Covid related extensions plus scheduled expirations. I would think they'll need to provide a significant number of award redemptions to cater for this backlog or provide another round of extensions. The challenging part may be trying to find and redeem saver tickets as I would expect these to be the first to go.

Note that points expiring up till March 22 will all be extended by 6 months from the month that they were due to expire in.

ie Dec 21 will become Jun 22. Mar 22 will become Sept 22.

You just need to have used the points to have made a booking by then. ie Can fly at almost a year after that.
Points can also be extended at a cost.

And now SQ have a bonus promotion from Amex transfer Is it worth transferring points? Me thinks not

I hope SQ extends them again or at least makes all the points expire earliest Sep 2022. Sucks for all of us who have points expiring Apr 2022 from the great Amex devaluation.
I am in the same boat.................... and I live in Queensland. I have 73k from that Amex transfer.

Ah great reminder...I've got 375k Krisflyer points expiring between Feb-Apr 2022. Really need to book something before then.
