Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

1 pax | Dec 13 | Dec 13 | J | MEL-SYD-ASP | 48,000 | $385.56 inc c/card fee | 90,300 | 240 SC

Took 10 minutes 52 sec on the phone to Margaret .. booked in no troubles. This will be my first status run and taking advantage of the double status credits for Dec...

I am looking at similar from Mel. But can see direct flights which I would like to avoid to maximise SC earn. Did you have any issues booking going via Sydney ?

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Not saying they don't exist, but I don't think I have ever seen or heard of a mixed class multi-city ASA booking at "classic award prices" - even before the change to the booking engine requiring they be done by phone.

Just sayin'...

What about the exclamation mark ?

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

It could also be that they have a really poor IT team at present.

TEAM Together Everyone Achieves More IMHO there are no Teams at QF IT :D

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Morning all well just managed to book 3 x JASA's as per below

1PAX|DEC 10|J| MEL-SYD-ASP RETURN|48,000|$385.50 INC C/C FEE|480 S/C (DSC)
1PAX|DEC 12|J| MEL-SYD-ASP RETURN|48,000|$385.50 INC C/C FEE|480 S/C (DSC)
1PAX|DEC 17|J| MEL-SYD-ASP RETURN|48,000|$385.50 INC C/C FEE|480 S/C (DSC)

All done with Greg in Hobart. Excellent service Will now be P1 :D Was only 980 short but what the hell it all helps towards LTG :D

The process was easy with Greg Knowing straight off what was needed and announcing no assistrance fee is payable as not available online.

As a sideline any time I get really good efficient and knowledgeable service they all seem to be based in Hobart. Must be something in the water. :D

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I am a bit new to all of this..

I have test booked online SYD-BNE-TSV return for 48,000 points and I assume 400SCs at a cost of $135.17

Is this not an OK booking for 400SCs? Can I do better if I now call up? Not sure why I would call?
Except I would be happier to spend more money and use less points.

Is this possible?

Many thanks

Chris

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Status is earnt on any seat rewards only, these can't be booked online anymore hence the call.

Sounds you may booked a classic award which accrues no status.

That offer is for Classic Y only and you get SC as Discount Economy only. It's also unclear whether it qualifies for DSC.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I have just spent an hour on the phone with the call centre trying to book a JASA, the CSR was lovely but had never done one before and this was despite ringing the premium line...anyway put her onto ROQ7740 but I think the issue might be that I wanted Mel/Syd/Adl/ASP return..could see as a classic reward and the computer allowed her to book but kept putting the min points from 144000 for two to 256000 points, her supervisor agreed should be 144000 and said they were having issues with their IT department ..anyway I have a booking ref number and the booking is in my file but they are calling me back to confirm points and $$ co payment ...fingers crossed all will be OK if not will have to cancel I guess.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Sorry Chrisd26! But you may want to change your booking from J to Y for the status credits then upgrade using points?

Fortunately for Chrisd26, you should be entitled to status credits for a limited time (if you booked a Classic award between 30 October and now):
Frequent Flyer - Member Specials - Qantas Classic Awards - Status Credit Offer

Only in Y, not J...

Yes BUT only at Discount Economy Rate

Dont think you can upgrade Classic Awards? I Could be wrong :D but doubt it :D

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I did not complete the booking before asking here.
So I assume my next step is when I have my dates ready - call up and ask for JASA which should cost around 48K points + a few hundred dollars?
Would 48K be the absolute minimum?

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Beware that upgraded Y tickets does not accrue J Status Credits either :).
Does the recent "you can upgrade non-upgradable Y tickets" offer make classic economy tickets upgradeable?

Good question but again would doubt it but happy to be proven wrong :D

Noreen, there are now quite a few posts on this thread attesting to the fact that it is now quite difficult, if not impossible, to book an xASA for the normal cheap number of points by an indirect route where a more direct route exists. Now I haven't looked it up but I would guess that there would be a more direct way of getting to ASP from MEL other than going via SYD and ADL.

If you try and book an xASA by these indirect routes it looks like QF's computers view them as multiple ASAs, and price them accordingly.

Good luck, let us know if you have any joy with this.

Have to say I was one of the people that was frustrated with this and have managed this morning to get 3 JASA bookinks MEL-SYD-ASP return in December for 48,000 points and $385.50 co payment. So dont lose faith it can be done you just need to fins the right CSR who knows what they are doing :D

You've done well. Shows it is not impossible after all. Merely difficult. I think Noreen may still struggle with her itinerary though.

Crikey, you are going to be sick of the sight of aeroplanes after that week!
