Heads up about program changes

If it goes by the ticketing date, for those who have forward QF bookings with flexible tickets, all they need to do is change the date and they'll get additional points and SCs? (I would say probably not).

I am really sorry I don't see things your way.

People were earning QFF points and SCs for a very small premium on Any Seat awards. They are now gone.

Oh, and no other airline in the world allows earning on awards. Do they? Why should Qantas?

To give them an "edge" over the competition and engender loyalty by people actually paying more ( used to that is)

agreed.

given award tickets are not free by any stretch of the imaginations... the fuel charges are hefty... the least QF could do is include international award tickets as earning a ~

If that was the case then every airline around the world would do the same thing.

Qantas needs to get itself out of trouble. Handing out status for next to nothing is not going to achieve that.

That's a very good point and one I wish had occurred to me while I was on the phone.

Yes, according to the supervisor, it goes on the ticketing date so if you can have your ticket reissued then you would indeed earn the better rates on those handful of QF fares where the points and SC earning does improve. Somehow, I very much doubt QF is running a two way street here. Perhaps someone with a forward booking could phone QF and enquire about doing a ticket reissue specifically for the purposes of the superior earn, then post the experience here.

The sooner they stop the red-e-sale rort the better. It's ridiculous that people can earn status by flying a measly 70 MEL-SYD-MEL in Y- a year.

:p

Some are actually doing it better. One of the reasons I prefer Aadvantage over QFF is that the taxes with AA are usually less than $100 when with QFF they are several hundreds. And this is on the same flight.

Can anyone point me to where the international upgrade table is for the new fare classes? There are lots of links to "this changes after 1 July" but I cant find what it changes to.

Thanks

You are quite right. Status should only be possible on flexible airfares and above.

This is correct in some sense, I guess - for a lot of airlines, flying on red-e equivalent fares earn absolutely nothing, no points, no status, no matter which program. Pax can fly the equivalent of MEL-SYD-MEL 700 times in a year, and they would still earn zilch (or some tiny amounts such as 10 or 25%, i.e. 44 or 110 points on MEL-SYD)

I don't believe there is a new table. i.e. they are unchanged and therefore not 'simpler and fairer'!

So is it just Y that gets the lower points upgrade cost (as per the old system), or is it Y, B & H that make up the new Economy Flex I wonder?

I'm sure Red Roo mentioned somewhere that it hadn't changed, so it is only 'Y' that is classed as Economy and all other economy fare buckets are Y-.

Well that's a shame. Seems how the $9,000 family trip to Europe that was available last week is only available as a $13,000 Flex option today (which I was tempted to pay if the upgrade cost was the lower points) I will now look at other airlines. The VA (SQ metal) option is still $9k, or $13k with the long legs in W and mixture of VA/EY metal.

But not suitable for those who purchase cheapest airfares. I would have difficulty earning status on AA and I am not sure the extra money I need to spend on eligible irfares is going to justify the savings in taxes.

And then there's Everyday Rewards to consider.

Premium flights on Oneworld carriers don't credit so well to AA either.

But JohnK in the early days of my being with Aadvantage I had no status. All our earning was on JAL which was not in OW then.So you earnt points but those flights didn't count for status.Yet mrsdrron and I on our first J Aaward NRT-LAX were upgraded on board to F.
status came later.Only one year did I make EXP but have still done better with AA awards than QFF.

One wonders why QF make it easy to earn status from cheap airfares when other airlines don't.

:p
