are they somewhere near Perth? (asks the Qantas intern)

Well, if DFW is now on the USA West Coast, then Jersey is in Scotland, Guernsey in Africa and the Isle of Man is in the Gulf (not sure which Gulf as there are plenty around the world - just pick one).

Not forgetting that in some evil empires (not Qantas of course) Guam is North America and that Vladivostok is in Europe ;):p

Hmmmmm!

England = England
Great Britain = England, Wales and Scotland (although possibly for not much longer)
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland = England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland

Not sure where Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man fit in.

Wrong, Newk, dead wrong.

The Qantas intern wouldn't ask. He/she would know that Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man are just off Tasmania. You know, foreign, and not near Brunswick Street at all. And would write up the tables accordingly.

So am I getting this right, Qantas would rather me go direct then try to connect? Or do I just book multiple legs?

To be technical Channel Islands (Jersey/Guernsey are a "Crown Peculiarity" and part of the duchy of Normandy.
But if you happen to be in Europe it is a relatively cheap way of getting SC/tier points to book BA Euro traveller tickets and using Proactive Upgrades to Club Europe tickets, they will appear in your Manage My Booking (MMB) on the BA booking site after 48 hours after you have booked (as long as you book on the BA booking site), you used to get it after 24 hours, but BA stopped it so you couldn't cancel it if you didn't get the upgrade offer and then cancelled the request as it is not a guaranteed upgrade offer. Depending on the distance booked it is likely to be about £69/79/89 for an upgrade to Club Europe and will give you 40/60/80 tier points/SC per sector. It is worth phoning QF prem. help line to make sure you get the SC you expect.

When booking a PASA today, I was told that prior to June 30, it can be changed free of charge provided that there is P availability, but that from July 1 any change would be priced at "fare of the day".

The person I spoke with was extremely competent, so I tend to believe that there is something worth listening to there.

So essentially, after all these changes, it's probably best for me to redeem my points for a kettle or some cough, because QFi don't have a clue, want to fail, and think ill stupidly move my loyalty to JQ?

Sounds like Qantas' message has finally started to filter through :-P (tongue firmly plated on the cheek!)

Or earn your points elsewhere.

I have been looking into AAdvantage and have decided to move all my CX earn this year to AA. That won't affect my WP requal as I have enough QF to get me to WP but I do worry about status next year considering I will likely do none of the 4 segments AA require. Nor do I like the fact that semi-flex domestic are counted as discount Y on AA.

But these are things I am sure I will work out in time. The occasional F lounge is not worth sticking with QF and foregoing all the redemptions that can be made using AA. QF can consider the message received.

*And* earn my points elsewhere ;)

So rather than keeping QFi as a strong incentive for me to keep earning QFF points, they are relying on QFF to somehow deliver for QFi? errr.. FAIL. without QFi, QFF is meaningless and I will switch my (highly profitable to QF) points earn to another provider.

Sounds about right to me.

I am really struggling to find uses for my QFF points.

I can get business award BNE-TPE on CX but then a paid TPE-BKK in business has tripled since the last time I looked at these airfares.

I then check BNE-HKG but there is no CX availability. Only QF availability via MEL and the MEL-HKG leg in economy and vice versa. Hmmm.

So I try BNE-BKK and I get 5 flight options each way and 4 of them have a JQ flight  and the final option is QF23/QF24 with no business availability.

All this for February next year. I was trying something else the other day and that is a no goer. I am beaten and I haven't really tried yet.

Go with the kettle or some cough. Its tangible, usable and probably involves more certainty than QF turning things simple fairer.
