On Line Calculator

Ok so Daughter and son in law are flying to KL as part of a long honey moon traversing Europe and Russia and Asia. Tried to use the calculator to ascertain points and status credits for them post 1 July. Gave up. Rang the Plat Line and a very helpful lady has calculated it all for me.

Now part of the booking is for MEL-KUL I was advised that we should be able to do this using the calculator online however when I pointed out that KL was not one of the cities that could be selected she went away for a number of minutes and confirmed that it couldn't be done as KL is NOT a QF Route and one can ONLY use the calculator for QF routes. Guess the list will be shrinking even more.

I asked ok so when using OW partners and non QF routes how do we calculate points and SC, response was you have to call the FF team each and every time. Simpler and fairer ... Pigs cough is it.

Encouraging though was a comment that seemed to indicate a new calculator to be available from 1 July with the full functionality of the current calculator and perhaps better. DONT SHOOT ME PLEASE.

So it seems at the moment we are back to calling and overloading the FF team to work out non QF routes.

Come on QF get with it.

We could all sing together a new refrain to the Status quo song:

Down, down, QFF points are down,

Down, down, Status Credits are down!

Correct me if I am wrong, but you couldnt calculate KL prior to July 1 anyway?

I guess that you would have thought that July 1 would have been the perfect time to update the calculator with all of the new nuances in there.

And an example of a FF Program many here might want to switch to, once QF is finally done butchering its own.

Coincidently just got off the phone to Amex and have gone from direct sweep to QFF back to Membership Rewards points. Only 1 QFF earning card left now so am into the burning and no longer earning world of QFF.

TBH, the earn table and status levels seem pretty close to what Qantas used to be for partners. Doesn't seem like such a bad option anymore, except no EK status or earning from EK metal QF codeshares. AA has something with Ethiad.

Read Ansett's post so called the Plat line to find out what our travels in September on CX and AY would produce in QF points and SCs.

CX: SYD-HKG-BKK (PE) return: 'around' 6200 pts and 60 SCs.
AY: BKK-HEL-BUD (I): 7300 pts and 180 SCs
AY: LHR-HEL-BKK (I): 7500 pts and 180SCs
Total: 21000 pts and 300SCs

Does this sound about right?

OT: Ticket issued by CX: indicates a possible 27223 Asia Miles earn. Wondering whether to join Asia Miles and collect AM or just allow pts and SC to accrue to QF.

Actually you can earn BA Avios from EK operated QF codeshares, but not tier points.

It is hard to pin down SC earn, and I haven't tried the points yet. I calculated TXL-HEL-BKK as 200SC, so the advice to you for LHR-HEL-BKK is even lower! My round trip estimate for SYD-HKG-HEL-CDG//TXL-HEL-BKK-SYD came in at 380SC (640 in the old scheme).

I'm doing BKK - LHR on AY in business (BA from HEL to LHR) in Oct. and was quoted 120 SC BKK - HEL and 60 SC HEL - LHR by Plat help line, a total of 120+60+60+120=360 for the return trip. BA tier point calculator shows 140 TP BKK-HEL and 80 TP HEL-LHR, so a loss of 80 Tier Points on the return trip.
I'm looking at moving to BAEC, it is in my mind a better FF program than QF, as long as you get 4 sectors in with BA and a postal address in the UK (you don't have to live there.

The things I noticed:
100% earn and full economy tier point rate on both US Airways and Qatar (similar to Iberia earning on Qantas) plus has 100% status bonus for both Sapphire & Emerald.
25% earn on QF (not that much less than new QF on QF rate... hah!)
Still earn points on EK operated flights with QF ticket, but only get Tier Points and Lounge access if QF marketed and operated.
Tier point earn on some Intra-EU routes is lower than QF eg. LHR-NCE.

Essentially it seems to be better if you want to fly partner routes that interfere with QF Asia or QF EK routes.

AA seems to be the best for redemptions though still. Going to try and redirect my CC earn there.

Here is my guess based on the currently published partner table.

East coast to HKG, PE 30 SC.
HKG-BKK, all other flights 1050 miles, PE 30 SC

I assume the other flights are in I class, therefore business.

BKK-HEL, all other flights 4919 miles 120 SC. There is no line for Europe to BKK but it could be intended to include BKK with the other Asian ports which would mean 80 SC

HEL-BUD 919 miles, all other flights. 60 SC.

LHR-HEL 1150 miles - 60SC
HEL-BKK - see above

So total of either 420SC or 340SC

Edit: so 2 people getting 3 different answers, nothing more simple. ;)

... that has Lifetime OWE :D

Does BA have a 'soft landing' set up
like QF or is it like AA where you go from OWE to nothing if you don't requal for EXP?

Is crediting to AA not an option?

Plus the QF Plat line calculation, so who knows what I could get credited?:confused:

If the WP line can't give a calculation that matches the "Simplified" table, it's seems pretty b****y obvious it's *not* simple (let alone fairer!) - 3 different results? Good grief, who did they hire to create this utter mess????
