Heads up about program changes

Only 1 QFF earning card left now so am into the burning and no longer earning world of QFF.

I am a 'burner' too and have updated my FF prog line accordingly. Perhaps we should all do this? Even QF might understand something this simple.

The things I noticed:
AA seems to be the best for redemptions though still. Going to try and redirect my CC earn there.

BA is optimal for single sector short hauls, eg MEL-PER in J 20K + $22, MEL-SYD in Y 4.5K + $16. LHR-MXP 4.5K + $32 (with free domestic add on, eg EDI-LHR-MXP is the same).

The things I noticed:
100% earn and full economy tier point rate on both US Airways and Qatar (similar to Iberia earning on Qantas) plus has 100% status bonus for both Sapphire & Emerald.
25% earn on QF (not that much less than new QF on QF rate... hah!)
Still earn points on EK operated flights with QF ticket, but only get Tier Points and Lounge access if QF marketed and operated.
Tier point earn on some Intra-EU routes is lower than QF eg. LHR-NCE.

Essentially it seems to be better if you want to fly partner routes that interfere with QF Asia or QF EK routes.

15k signup bonus on this card currently: AAdvantage® / MBNA Credit Card Account | Credit Cards | MBNA

You won't earn any TP on EK run QF coded flights, only a handful of points.

Anyway we can run through it all on the 21st if you're coming to the AFF meet.

Wow, I always thought they had stupid crazy levels of YQ like QF - even on short haul euro-routes. Along with the crazy UK departure taxes. May need a new thread/wiki for all of this as I'm guessing I'm not the only one re-evaluating.

Short haul Euro is one of the better redemptions IMHO. They have a thing called a Reward Flight Saver where you pay a set amount of tax/fees (35 GBP) and set amount of points (9k, 15k, 20k dependent upon distance).

They have a new thing also where you can reduce the cost of the flight by using Avios, still earn TP on it... and often this even works out to be better value again than the RFS!

OMG Yet another option. I have a UK address I can use to join BAEC, and while their burn rates look good, from the examples you have given, wonder about the availability on QF, given the recent history between QF/BA?

The availability I see for awards on QF as a Gold and as an equivalent Silver in BA (both OW Sapphire), has been identical. QF WP's may have access to better inventory though. The other thing (although I think QF have now fixed this), I've been able to book QF redemptions with BA Avios only a matter of a few hours before departure, whereas I could not with QF.

Used this just recently on a VCE-LGW flight (booked 1.5 hours pre-departure)!

Akin to ASA of the yester-years? Do tell me more...

Only really for short/low priced flights IME... but good none-the-less.

E.g. a RFS LGW-JER return is 9,000 Avios + 35 GBP
I paid 80 GBP for the return flight, then used 4,500 Avios to reduce the price by 30 GBP. Total outlay 50 GBP for the flight and 4,500 Avios. I'll earn 2,000 Avios on the flight as a BA Silver so total outlay is 50 GBP and 2,500 Avios for a flight that'll earn me 20 TP. Not bad really when a non-rev flight would be 9,000 Avios + 35 GBP. Spend 6,500 Avios less and only 15 GBP more and get 2 sectors out of it.

POUGs on QF would be great but I knew that I would only be able to it with BA :(.

Totally OT now but do you know if you can POUG on a multi leg itin, BRU/AMS etc - LHR - MAN/DUB/EDI etc, or is it only the single leg trips.

POUG tends only to be offered for simple return journeys so for example if you start in the UK regions EDI-LHR-AMS the systems don't seem to be able to offer it. You can still ask for an AUP though when at each various outstation.
