Hey Qantas, why is it that ....?

Hi there Qantas, why do still use the those cramped flying death pencils also known as the twin prop dash 8's for Qantas link, surely you can upgrade a few to jets. I've been on the dash 8 at minimum 4 times/month (now 8 flights/month) for the last 5 years and they only get more uncomfortable. I'd be able to get a signed petition of a few hundred people just from my work place alone to help the cause.

The nearest jet with similar seating capacity is the Embraer 175. I have always enjoyed flying in E jets.
Here is the seat map for DL E175. The seat width is about 1 inch wider.

I doubt very much that Dash 8 are any less safe than jets.

Flying death pencils? I know they're noisy but I wasn't aware they fell out of the sky. Why that nickname?

He obviously hasn't been in a Metro if he thinks Dash 8 are pencils, Metros and Dash 8 also don't fall out of the sky every day last time I checked....
The Metro actually owns the flying pencil name.

Simples. They are cheap and do the job cheaply. I reckon they would happily put on jets if you were happy to pay the extra cost.

I quite enjoy the Dash 8s myself, actually.

The Bombardier de Havilland Canada Dash 8, QUEEN OF THE REGIONAL SKIES!

I'll admit that I tend to take a B717 when I can on SYD-CBR, mostly because of the refurbed cabin, but the Dash 8s work just fine, and turboprops are significantly more fuel efficient as I understand it, which is a good thing for everyone.

... and turbo props are a lot cheaper to run.

This comes back to the old argument that people want a better service but don't want to pay any more for it.

The q400s have quite good leg room which I enjoy. Just a little bit narrow on the width though

Exactly. Although it is funny that in the US there are more regional jets than props in similar 30-60 seat capacity

Will be interesting to see how JetGo goes with its Embraer operation

Replacing a Dash 8 with a 737 means a reduction of 3-8 services spread out across a day to 1, based on relative seat counts.

Another issue with seating yesterday. I moved from 6C to 4D at T-80 hours last Thursday and called to add daughter to wifes booking and allocated 5D for her.

Handed boarding pass for 6C at check-in and there's no way to tell if changes were made to seating in the booking except for changes done yesterday. Lounge was not able to assist.

Not the end of the world but very disappointing to experince seat shifting twice in a month.

Why is it that QF consider it acceptable to load ancient horrible brown vinyl 1st amenity kits for LHR flights so long after then new kits were released? This has happend twice recently and was told by the crew that it is quite common ex-LHR.

The new kits in better bags with better amenities were released a long time ago. I was really looking forward to the new kit (especially the wonderful eye shade) and felt that QF had let s down badly.

If you have some old stock left over why not give it to J pax? Or pax whose luggage is lost or delayed? Or a charity such as one providing refuges to people fleeing abuse?
