Hey Qantas, why is it that ....?

Why is it that QF consider it acceptable to load ancient horrible brown vinyl 1st amenity kits for LHR flights so long after then new kits were released? This has happend twice recently and was told by the crew that it is quite common ex-LHR.

The new kits in better bags with better amenities were released a long time ago. I was really looking forward to the new kit (especially the wonderful eye shade) and felt that QF had let s down badly.

If you have some old stock left over why not give it to J pax? Or pax whose luggage is lost or delayed? Or a charity such as one providing refuges to people fleeing abuse?

SK-II v Aspar? If that's the case I'd take the SK-II.

Aspar is not great but better for my skin than SK-II so yes, I would rather Aspar (but even better would be a quality Australian brand such as Jurlique or Napoleon Perdis). At least I am not allergic to Aspar (unlike Payot when that was in the spa). IMHO SK-II is an over-priced Proctor and Gamble product and not good quality.

Also, an amenity kit is not just the cosmetic brand: the eye shades in the new kit are brilliant, the old ones below average; the new bag looks and feels good (something I can use for many things). The brown vinyl one is just awful and no better than junk.

Upgrades get what's left? Agree not good enough, but that's QF for you.
 
I've always wondered why Qantas didn't act faster to snap up an Australian brand like Jurlique or Aesop for its amenity kits.
 
Yes, and I wonder why Qantas didn't beat Cathay to the punch when it came to securing those brands, since the Australian connection is so obvious.

Dunno... maybe a perception that French brands = luxury? Prior to SK-II I can't remember QF offering anything but french cosmetics in F. Business class has favoured Aussie brands for quite some time, like Ultraceuticals. Maybe by the time QF decided for Australian in F it was too late with CX taking the big ones?

But just as well CX did, good exposure for good Aussie brands.

No chance of Napoleon anymore / the brand is tanking everywhere and slowly being downgraded and removed from distribution. I remember when it was huge. Doubt Qantas would touch it now, Jurilique would be great if not for the Cathay relationship.

PS to the Aesop lovers I think you'll find there isn't much Australian ownership there anymore sadly. Try Grown Alchemist or Appelles if you like Aesop.

Personally my HNW clients would prefer some YSL, Armani beauty products - there has been a huge surge back to the couture beauty brands.

I've always wondered about branding v substance. I prefer dedicated cosmetic brands rather than a fashion house putting their packaging around some unknown product. But I have no evidence one way or the other to know the effectiveness or quality of the fashion brands.

It's a good question and good news for you is that brands like YSL, Armani and Lancôme are part of the L'oreal group - so products are 100%. Then brands like Tom Ford are owned by Estée Lauder - so again 100% fine. L'oreal and Lauder brands product is probably some of the highest quality and effectiveness in the marke
 
Jurlique is now pretty much owned by Japan. We've had a working relationship with Jurlique for a very long time and have often visited their operations in the Adelaide Hills. It's a pristine operation. Extremely popular in Asian countries.

probably because QF were not prepared to pay for them, they always seem to go on cost and not building on the 'spirit of Australia' branding unlike so many other airlines that use companies from their home country to promote an image e.g. BA using Molton Brown and now Elemis in kits, Highland Spring mineral water and Chabonel & Walker chocolates (all probably out to be enhanced out of airline with its LCC CEO).

Neither Aesop nor Jurlique are Australian-owned any more... At least they are made here so say something about being Australian. Appelles might be Australian-owned but the Australianness stops there: the products are Chinese and the quality reflects this, just disappointing and always a heart sink when I see them in my hotel room.

As to big name French brands: give me quality over big naming any day. A famous brand does not guarantee quality, I'm allergic to Payot and find some other brands less effective than Bodyshop

I like Aesop. Nice fragrances and being pretty unisex would work well in Amenity kits.
For skincare I think you can't go past 50 plus sunblock, Biologique Recherche (P50 is the bomb) and Eve Lom/ Sunday Riley.
Any airline putting these in kits would have me as a customer any day.

That is sad to hear. I have already moved to David Deans for beauty products and Everescents for hair. Both small Australian companies and no testing on animals (the big companies all claim to be cruelty free except when required by legislation, which is code for we test on animals in order to sell in China :)). Everescents is organic as well. Do like the Aesop soft soaps though.

Qantas, why is it that these amenity packs are so boring and non amenity. I have never used anything in it
I would prefer just the case, and dump the rest. If you really feel the urge to put something in please put in a headphones airline adapter. No lotions and potions please. It's mainly overpriced sorbolene and nothing will make me look younger.

If your meaning the single pin to two pin, then these are on every Y headset. Very easy to take off.

Yes of course but I don't want to nick stuff and I'll probably lose it next time I need it. Providing it at point of use makes sense.
And it's $0.50 each on eBay so in bulk by Qantas it's peanuts but with a Bose label to make it more "Jurlique":)
