Hilton Honors Macquarie Platinum Card Discontinued

Email received on 30 April:

Dear Sojourner,

We’re getting in touch to remind you that from tomorrow you’ll start earning Macquarie Rewards points on your credit card.

Don’t forget, from 1 July 2019 you’ll enjoy the benefits of no international purchase fees on your new card~.

To say thank you for your loyalty, Hilton will also be issuing you a final reward weekend night certificate as you have met or are close to meeting the spend threshold on your credit card. You’ll receive this via email by the end of May 2019.

I got that email, I haven't received a follow up email but when I spoke to online chat yesterday they confirmed that the certificate was credited to my account on the 10th May. Best to contact them and check if its been added

Mine was also credited on 10 May, IIRC. No other visability other than the email sent out same date with subject of "Your Hilton Honors account has been updated" or the slightly misleading headline in the body of the text: "points redemption activity notice". It had me thinking somebody had hacked my account. It wasn't until the Chat person advised there was a transaction for 0 points, that I realised it was the Free Night Certificate that had landed in my account instead.

You are right. I checked my email it I did receive an email on the same day saying "Your Hilton Honors account has been updated" - I had booked a reward night stay two days before and I had assumed it was just a delayed notification that points had been deducted.

Logging into the system to check my points activity there was a an event for a transaction for 0 points as you said. I tried the online chat as suggested by @Jonova and they were able to provide me with the certificate number.

I still had to call up to make the reservation though as they could not do it online.

This was a bit annoying because I'd been looking out for a different email similar to what I had received before telling me I got my reward night and that also tells you your certificate number.

Anyway, on a side note, I would usually check online to see if there was availability to use my reward night. The rule I thought was in place was if there was availability for Standard Reward bookings you could use your certificate, but today when I checked there was zero availability on ANY date for the next 8 months (I didn't check any further). But when I called to make the booking there was availability for the date I wanted.

The bottom line is even though the system may suggest there is no availability it may be worthwhile ringing to check anyway just in case there is some glitch like it seems to be at the moment where it's saying there is no availability for any night at all.

Hilton has been having random problems lately with reward nights totally not appearing and that's for all hotels.

Silly question, I don't see any option for online chat on the Hilton page. Which page are you seeing it on? And which browser?

Not sure what triggers it, but certainly appears when I commence the login process. IE and Chrome.

Suspect my various adblockers and antitracking things are killing it. Thanks!

Edit: yes looks so - used Chrome without any addons and it popped up. Good to know!

The person on chat said i should email [email protected] and attach the email saying we'd be extended until 2021, and then they'll look into it.
Thanks @fkn_ace, I've sent off my email seeking clarification. At least there is something in writing now on file.

Hi folks - any luck with responses here, via this address? I was looking at doing the same as I'm also showing status only to 2020 and a drop to Member... would rather have it sorted now, than in April next year

Cheers,
Matt.

I received the following response:

HHonors said:
Thank you for your inquiry regarding Honors account. I appreciate you taking time to contact us.

Please be informed upon reviewing your document, I can check that you have tier is extended till March 31, 2019. However, I would request you to please keep screenshot or the email document you have received if your tier changes due any technical glitch so that you can provide us this at that time. I appreciate your loyalty towards Hilton.

As always, thanks for traveling with us and please let us know if you have any other questions. You can reach us any time at [email protected].

Happy travels,
DS.

To which I shot back a pretty obvious reply:

Hi D,

The date you confirmed below was 2 months ago and therefore I’m not sure you are correct.

I look forward to somebody confirming the correct date.

that was 9 days ago. Crickets...

Plus they sent me an online survey on my interaction. You can guess the result that DS got - not flattering.

Then yesterday, fortuitously I got a NAB Qantas Business Signature Card application (Visa), fee free for first year and $1.50 to 1QF point (cap of $50K per card per statement period) and 100K sign-on bonus (for $4K spend in 60 days). I'll have a pre-approved limit of $15K. Thanks for coming, as I was about ready to go direct and wouldn't have had such a good offer. Sometimes we are lucky.

I've got the Hilton email showing extension until 2021 so I'm not concerned. Going to cancel the Hilton card (the replacement card doesn't wwork properly, EFTPOS use is declining every time yet online use is working).

My Macquarie Black (for QF points), which replaced the HH Macquarie has worked on all EFTPOS transactions. Maybe a chip problem?

Probably, but just the perfect excuse to cancel it sooner (I was going to cancel by 30 June anyway). Not that they need to know that...

I looked at changing to the QF-earning card, but 100K bonus points are needed at present.

I received the same email back that 'qf wp' received except that mine had the correct dates in it.

Correct date, as in they said it was good to 2021? If so, do you notice any change on the account summary page?

Cheers
Matt.

Yep 2021 in the email. But i notice no change in my hilton honors account on the summary page.
What are you needing to see on that page? If the Nights Earned bit, then that will show 2020 tier based on nights earned this year. It's not too intuitive. It just functions as a basic indicator of progress.

It used to be that when one went to print out another copy of ones HH card, the expiry date would show (and I've certainly had more than next year expiry). Not sure that "trick"works any more. Agree, normal dashboard shows attainment towards 2020 status.

Gday

I have been trying to get confirmation from MBL or HH re the status extension until 2021. MBL said it wasnt their problem as, per the email sent to cardholders, it was Hiltons decision to sever the relationship and a goodwill gesture on Hilton's behalf. I cancelled the MBL card as it is garbage. Points for JB hifi vouchers- give me a break. Good thing is you can cancel online in the app without calling anyone.

My efforts in contacting Hilton via chatline, phone and email have so far yielded sweet FA. Hilton's diamond desk appear to seek out employees who do not seem to have basic comprehension skills nor do they seem to have ever used the internet. I will give the guest correspondence email noted in a previous post a go as my most recent reply from the Diamond desk was that they cant access that information at this point as the system is undergoing a planned outage and it wont be back until July.

I have a good feeling that come 1 April 2020 there will be a conga line of ex MBL HH cardholders contacting Hilton to get them to keep their promise. Whatever you do dont delete that email from Macquarie outlining the status extension.

Pele.

There seems to be so much doubt about retaining status until 31/3/21 in this thread when we have already been advised that it will come to pass.

Oh ye of little faith. :)

Has anyone on the old FFL Hilton / Macquarie card offer succeeded in switching to the Qantas /Macquarie card for the $50 difference between Macquarie Black (which we now have) and the Macquarie Black Qantas card?

Macquarie Black is $249pa on their website and Macquarie Black Qantas is $299.
