I recently rang to see if they would waiver or reduce the annual fee...they wouldn't budge and asked me whether I wanted to cancel the card ...I told them I would think about it, but given I'm Hilton Diamond til 31 Marc 2018 because of the card, I have to keep the card ;)

did you say that you want to cancel? or a bit of a "do you think the annual fee could be reduced?"
Because I said I don't use the card much and want to cancel, 2nd time doing that and they agreed to halve the fee.
They transferred me to someone else in order to be offered that. Once was a call back the second time was a transfer.

if you didn't get transferred to a "retentions" team member, they didn't take your call seriously..

I got TF to retentions who rattled on about all the benefits etc and that is why they can't reduce the fee....she then asked whether I wanted to cancel the card or not...so they called my bluff :(.....but I'm getting great benefits as a Hilton Diamond + the free night itself should cover the $295 annual fee so I really can't complain!

I don't think cancelling the card will affect your Hilton status now. It should remain until 31 March 2018 regardless.

...but on 1st April 2018 onwards, I want to put another 40K on the card ASAP so i'll get Diamond till 31 March 2020 ;)

if i didn't get the fee halved i'd just cancel and re-sign up next year 2018 april and hopefully get a signup bonus of some sort.
You should consider it imo, save yourself some $$

are there any fee free promo or bonus points running currently for new card signups?
thanks guys

Can anyone confirm if the Hilton Gold status is instant?

I've been looking for a BT card to transfer a small amount and was thinking I might be best to get this anyway to ensure I keep HH Gold for the following year.

I'm not sure that mine was "instant" as in same day but it was on my HHONORS profile within about a week.

My gold status ends in 3 days and I am keen for a sign up deal with this card. Wishing and hoping...

Was just denied using my certificate at the Waldorf Amsterdam because the hotel only has "premium rooms" and the certificate is for a standard room. Has anyone come across anything like this before? I do not see this hotel on the exclusion list.

Is it just that there are no standard rooms available for booking on the date you want?

I have used certificates at both Conrad Maldives and Koh Samui which are all suite properties with no problems.

It would seem that perhaps this is an issue with this particular hotel as per this blog:
https://windbagmiles.com/2017/05/27...ain-always-waldorf-astoria-amsterdam-edition/

They recommend calling again as another agent may have better luck, but as the blog finishes - what if the hotel then cancels the stay at a later date?
