HKG lounge crawl 8 June 2014

I've never been to KUL so makes sense that if I'm coming all this way .. I should go check it out :)

Put my foot in it - a case of calendar fail. Didn't realise I had a trip booked to ORK Jun 7-10, so going to have to cancel that one. At least that flight was only £60!

Greetings all potential and committed participants !!
I was thinking of trying to arrange a quick QF trip over the June long weekend to HK to be part of this occasion but now with all the QFF program changes I am wondering whether I should bother given the way we frequent flyers, as opposed to frequent high value spenders, are being treated. Frequent flyers are no longer relevant to QF it would seem.
Do the lounge crawl arrangements remain loose until the departure day as I see there are also people interested in yum cha on the Sunday and functions (dinner?) on the Saturday. What is actually organised will determine my movements and whether I can attend.

The lounge crawl itself is confirmed, and will run as long as there are members in the airport. I would suggest from about 1200 to 2100 hrs.

I am pleased to say also that I am flying BA over/back and am crediting to BA over/back which will help with my BA status renewal. I haven't stepped on a QF plane in some time, nor have I credited a single point to QF. Good riddance QF!

Keep in mind that you can attend the lounge crawl with any OW flight departing HKG on 8 Jun. So you can fly MH for SYD-xKUL-HKG and back, and credit it to some other program you like, and still be able to access all the lounges (except the EK one).

In terms of Sat dinner and Sun brunch, it's at the "gathering interest" stage. There are still a couple of months to go, so these don't need to be booked so far in advance.

Thanks - I will keep an eye on the thread and will see how things develop. I will do my best to attend probably from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th travelling on QF127/128.

I'm now confirmed on MH72 arriving 1pm-ish on 7 June and MH433 departing 8-ish on 8 June. Not a fan of the 738 "J" on departure but the CX-operated codeshare was an increase of more than 20% in price so the flying sofa will do me this time (The CX currently has long-haul seat map loaded). Not sure if I could update the spreadsheet?

I just updated the spreadsheet.

I would propose that the Sunday yum cha brunch to be at Lei Garden Restaurant (利苑酒家) at Elements. It's a nice and clean place, and the food is generally well regarded. I would anticipate a start time of around 11am, and since it's at the shopping complex above Kowloon Station, it would be perfect for us to head to the airport after the meal - or to complete our last minute shopping rush. Allow for about $30 AUD / $200 HKD per person. Assuming we head for the airport straight after the brunch, we should arrive at the lounges at roughly the same time as Jessica and John who would be arriving HKG as transit pax.

Thanks also the for Sunday Brunch details. Looks good. 5 interested in the brunch so flagging the details for everyone.

Cheers. Will reconfirm to finalise numbers in May, and make the booking about 2-3 weeks ahead.

For those who will be in HKG earlier than 8 June it might be interesting to note that the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival is taking place from 6 to 8 June in Victoria Harbour (East TST Kowloon) with the San Miguel BeerFest occurring at the same time adjacent to the races.

Interesting. I wonder if that explains why some of the hotel prices were rather eye-watering!

And here I was hoping that it was the "Lounge Dragon boat festival" someone has to knock off the 10 year consecutive winning team from BA LHR...... ;)

Given his penchant for paddling around harbours, I wonder if Captain QF WP knows about this? ;)
Don't be surprised if he turns up in the lounge and shanghais you lot into a canoe!

its like that all year round - they cant build hotels fast enough,

dragon boats and the beerfest would be basically the same event i would think!

Yes - San Miguel beer is the principal sponsor of the Dragon Boat Festival and the BeerFest is promoted as a 'during or after the races' event.

Mmmmm beerfest.

I will be in HK from Thursday night, so I might have to check that one out. I said maybe to brunch on the spreadsheet before I read the last couple of posts and realised there are 5 starters. Make that 6, I'm in.
