Something that everyone can eat and is not dumped in spices, curry and chillies for weeks, months and years.
Yes how dare those foreigners in HK dish up anything other than meat and 3 veg for the western folk as they stop off for an hour or so.

Why is everyone is picking one me?

I am reporting the food options in the restaurant buffet in the Cathay First lounges in HKG and they have a good variety of food on offer for all tastes. I just happen to prefer the non-Asian variety. And I actually gave the catering the thumbs up and people are jumping down my throat.

Those that can eat anything go for it.

I agree (believe it or not). In F lounges, in large 'crossroads' airports, they should cater to a spectrum of tastes, not just the local.

And as you observe, The Wing does that.

Baked potatoes are an Aussie English dish as were several other European style food options available last night. ;)

If you get bored with quality and the finer things in life......you'd be perfect for J* ;)
Really? Thanks for the advice. You think champagne is quality? I think it is vinegar water.

As I said earlier to each their own.

Looks like this thread is a re-run of the SIN lounge thread.

If that's true, then I'm looking forward to the bit when I discover they have Erdinger on tap... for a while...

- I see you find 30 minutes at the SYD QF First lounge too long.

Personally I try to allow at least 3 hours for MEL & SYD - on my last HKG journey, I Allowed 4 hours for the Wing and the QF bunker.

Yes 30min may seem strange to you and others. I live very close to sydney international airport, actually only a 15min walk across the park to the qantas check in counter. I find being home with my own surroundings and furnishings far far more superior then sitting in a public lounge in a crummy airport.

Someone else mentioned the finer things in life referring to the wing in Hong Kong. I dont see it sorry. 4 hours in the wing, good on you, as long as YOU enjoy it that`s the main thing. To be honest when I first started flying i did the same, but all of that has worn off for me. When i pay for your plane ticket thats when i can tell what to enjoy and for how long.

Not sure if it's just me, but the way this photo shows the entrance, it's almost like the whole lounge is set up on a temporary basis and it's ready to be moved out/closed down in a moment's notice.

That's actually a good point.

That's next to the rear door that I thought might lead to the escalators down next to G16 lounge, will have to see where it leads next week.

It does have a bit of an 'Ikea' feel to it - like it could be packed up and shipped out easily, nice and cheap to do a make-good on the space also!

Ah. Astute observation. That's why we pay you the big bucks.

That concrete polishing looks ordinary. Your average warehouse is finished off better than that..

agree - it feels rough - the SIN lounge by comparison is much better i think

I want to see your warehouse....used to do a few hours a week here or there in one...I'd have to get back on your assessment! (And we kept a tight ship) :)

The lounge looks good in pictures. The word going around is that for those expecting French bubbles, unless you have serious pull, it'll be Aussie sparkling (doesn't exactly sound like the best stuff either). But there's otherwise gotta be something in the lounge to keep you plied with alcohol. (Certainly for me, a lounge is not disqualified solely on lack of Champagne).

I wonder if they do dishes to order, apart from Asian BBQ meat dishes and dim sum (which is not really 'to order').

I think most will find objectively the lounge is above satisfactory, and certainly looks better than the old lounge that it replaced. I wouldn't and didn't ever expect it to blow CX's F lounges out of the water, though suffice to say I haven't been Platinum/OWE for a while, so the decision on where to go is not as easily clean cut (even with the existing lounges).

Probably "good" it isn't necessarily as good as the CX F (or all) lounges; QF might struggle very badly for space if they started pulling all their traffic over.

It's interesting the different perspectives put on things.

I've now been to both. Singapore in August when it was really busy. Hard to find a seat. Majority of seats in 1 large area. I barely remember in fact I don't, the furnishings or flooring. I felt overcrowded. I do remember the creme brûlée. ;). But I wasn't a huge fan. I was in a hurry for the flight to be called so I could get out.

Ok, so the lounge in HK wasn't busy. Which makes a difference of course. It was quiet and peaceful and open because of the glass features and placement of chairs. And would still feel that way even if busy. That to me is more of an idea of a restful place I would want to stay during pre flight time.

Or maybe it was just my claustrophobia playing up again. ;)
