HKG new lounge open

I want to see your warehouse....used to do a few hours a week here or there in one...I'd have to get back on your assessment! (And we kept a tight ship) :)

I'm not talking about a DC that hires backpackers or students. Polish concrete can look classy - if done right!

I was there on the 28th March when it opened and have to say it is not a bad effort....but sadly not in the same league as the The Wing F Lounge.

I'm really not a fan of the concrete floor, and made a bit of a fool of myself by asking staff if the floors would be tiled or carpeted. It was a genuine question because I just assumed it was not quite ready for the "grand" opening when the press would be there.

If every one of us asks the same question when we visit the lounge, would they consider putting in tiles or carpet? Or would they tell us that the floor has been enhanced?

Concrete was simpler than tiles and carpet.

ok so i have insomnia and an upset stomach tonight so of course im online...just had a look at the ausbt review again - those pictures have had some serious instagram effect done to them! they have tried their darnedest to warm them up because in reality the concrete floor makes everything cold and stark, thus

actually the floor looks better in pic 1, it kinda looks like a beige coloured linoleum - bet that'd be cheap to source!

Hmm, quite a mood draining image....

I can say with some confidence that picture two has not been altered. ;)

To get the effect of pic 1, a longer exposure time and a warmer white balance would get you most of the way to such a photo, so they didn't need to spend a lot of time to photoshop it.

Although as a regular visitor of HKG, while I haven't been to the lounge yet, I would indeed agree that the second pic would be much closer to the reality. Looking at that corridor, it gives pretty much the same cold and emotionless feeling as you're walking into the F Wing (which some may or may not like). Guess that's what the openness does.

Well concrete is quite easy to hose down - so it has that going for it. Also people are forgetting this lounge was planned back when QF flew to Perth, so I'm sure the original plan included throwing down some sawdust around the bar area for the hi-vis perth crowd.

Not too keen (based on photos only) on the random bench seating around the place - inevitably this type of seating just ends up with three people taking up the space for six etc.

We visited on Monday last and felt is was very different to Sydney J lounge which while crowded at times has a more personal/comfortable feel. The openness was similar to EK DBX lounge, but without the fine finishes or food/drink services. And yes there is a lot of polished concrete, but also tiled areas. The toilets being down one end was not so convenient.

Things got very crowded prior to QF128 departure. The slow cooked beef was excellent though, went down very well with a glass of Shiraz.

I'll be in HKG on Saturday, for a whirlwind visit, flying whY on EK. As a QP member, will I have access to the lounge? My take on the squiggles etc is yes, but I have been wrong in the past.

I have to say I think QF have a very good setup at HKG now - check-in at row J, straight through North Concourse Immigration, then the QF HK Lounge is right there on the right side with Gate 16 and QF128 waiting below. Just a shame they can't get QF30 and QF98 to leave from that area as well.

Showers and bathrooms look good, plenty of space, good food, and most importantly the service is very friendly and attentive. Better service than Wing F actually. Wing F will mainly appeal for greater food variety and the Cabanas/free pressing for WPs - the latter which QF only offers to WP1 and F. So I will still be incurring the CX lounge charges!

Where to after midnight?
I have a 01:30 QR flight (J).
That's assuming admission using a OW J BP, however would it be classed as the 'next day':
QF: "Next onward flight that day must be on a oneworld operated and marketed flight.#"

Flew QF127 into HKG yesterday and parked next to it were 2 QF A330 that arrived from MEL and BNE. It is a great setup in HKG as it is very quick to immigration, and convenient on departure.

unfortunately I couldn't use the lounge before my connecting flight to EK. The lady in the lounge barred me as the lounge is a "partnership with BA" As I had a tight connection, I didn't press the point but I will be writing a complaint letter (she didn't have a name tag though)

Wow, that's pretty poor. The lounge is a QF lounge and the website is pretty clear that you should get access if WP/SG/QP on EK flight.

If you don't mind me asking where were you sitting? I was on the same flight!
