How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

True to their word when I arrived back this evening just after 6pm I had been moved to a King Suite.
My luggage was already in the new room.
I have to say I like the new furnishings, hopefully they will eventually re-place the wallpaper and carpet to match

OT: I didn't plan this trip too well having spent the last few weeks in NZ. It's evil waking up at 0300 due to the WA jet lag factor :D

Yes that looks like my room from last week. Nice to see they came to the fore and upgraded you to the King Suite.

Late check out for 3pm granted.

The comment quoted reminded me to post about our experience at H-CMB. I had booked two nights there but only because we had a 0130 CMB-SIN flight and wanted use of the room until when it suited us. Upon checking out at 2230, the reception guy said "you're checking out early, is everything OK?". I assured him it was and he replied that they wouldn't charge us for the second night and would give that to us as a diamond member late check out! Now that's what I call a diamond perk. I commented to my wife that at HSP, they consider themselves champions if they graciously allow a 2pm check out (I've had them tell me a number of times they can do a late checkout beyond 2 but it'll cost me).

the service is improving over the last few stays at CMB, with increasing diamond recognition. The standard late check out is 1030pm as all the flights except one to get back to Aiustralia leave at OMG o'clock. \I think thats a hangover from the war

Just arrived at the Exec Lounge of the Shinjiku Hilton and was surprised to be offered access to the 'other, more exclusive' lounge in room 3710. It's certainly nice, very quiet but can't really comment if the F&B is of a higher standard. Champers is Chandon from Oz, I'm patriotic but French might be the more appropriate Methode. Good selection of nibbles certainly.

Any reason for the 'upgrade'?

Im not entirely sure. Oddly there was some mention about our 'Gold' members (well, I'm actually Diamond but hey...). This is after all Japan and much is Lost In Translation. There are really only another 6 guests in here. It has capacity for about 20 I would say. Certainly I didn't get this upgrade due to looks: I've jus returned from skiing all week with a 9 day growth and ice-blasted goggle-face. But it's a nice space and I was wondering if any other members had experienced it.

Yeah, it's in my post a couple of weeks back. It's the diamond lounge as far as I can tell. Smaller, no barman to mix your drinks there, slightly slower drinks service. F+B not sure of the differences. Nice view, quiet, more intimate. Overall a decent Hilton but still a Hilton. Prefer the Conrad tbh.

The Hilton must be a good place to 'meat'.

It looks like it is going to be a BIG night @ the Adelaide H tonight .....The property is full of very competitive very ‘full’ butchers all trying out to be the National Sausage King........... This could take the ‘Collins Bar’ reputation in some circles to a whole new level ........
I think we are in for some very interesting people watching in the bar later tonight.

Arrived earlier - nice welcome - room ready - upgrade from exec room to suite (Diamond)

When I checked my Hilton Honours Account, I saw the following:

"Based on nights earned this year, your 2016 tier would be Blue. To maintain Gold status in 2016, you need 40 more nights."

I hope that it means I will maintain Gold status for 2015. I'm not sure how to interpret the statement.

To be honest for those with status active the previous year, until March 31, that part of the Hilton Honors account page appears to have little meaning.

Best to recheck the second week in April.

Thanks, I will do that and keep my fingers crossed in the meantime.

The statement is not wrong though. It is not referring to status at all in 2015, only 2016, but it does recognise your gold status right now (by stating to maintain gold in 2016.....)

Probably the only two things it doesn't say is what your status will be after 31/3/2015 and that you'll have that level until 2016, but to be honest, I think stating all that would just make it more confusing and based on what HH diamond desk has told me previously (that status renewal is a manual transaction, hence the 3 month grace period to allow them the time to do it), HH may not even know what anyones status will be post 31/3/2015. Sounds dumb in this technically advanced age (said with a degree of sarcasm), but apparently that's the way it is!

Hotel: Waldorf Astoria Shanghai
Status: Diamond courtesy of Centurion legacy
2 Nights (7th-9th Feb Jan)
Room Booked: King Deluxe
Room Received: River View Suite

No executive lounge - but you do get a RMB100 voucher to redeem in Long Bar - woopee - not!

Just hard explain just how beautiful this Suite is - so I'll let a few pics tell the tale - but again even the pics do not do it justice. First the river view:

Hotel: Hilton Surfers Paradise:
2 Nights (29th-31st Jan)
Room Booked: King Executive
Room Received: Relaxation Suite.

Executive Lounge: Disappointing outside of main service times, but good options for evening Drinks/canapes. GREAT views.
Buffet at Salt: Good options, much like other Hilton Buffets.

Had to call down for comp gold water(6 hours after check in), no GM card or welcome amenity ( as suggested in room rate)
Late check out for 3pm granted.
The room itself is fine, it is comfortable but lacks the Hilton finish ( ripped towels, stained carpets) size is more like a standard exec room at HSW with a TINY couch.

The Staff have all been friendly and helpful so far, and the hotel is definitely comfortable and nice... Just lacking the special Hilton something.

Our stay was almost identical these last two days.

We paid for an advance purchase Standard King (AUD 231 per night) but recieved an upgrade to a Relaxation Suite as a Diamond benefit on the 14th Floor so good views. The towels were thin and the carpet stained - maybe we got the same room. The shower controls were well positioned so you could set the temperature without getting frozen or scolded. Already the toilet was nearly broken.

No GM welcome letter but water and a first in the fruit bowl - a full sized Avocado!! The valet parking reasonable at $15 per day multi entry and valid until 1800 on check out day. Convienient to shops and restaurants and one block from the beach. Pity about the tower in front spoiling the view.

As mentioned; the lounge during the afternoon very disappointing but better in the evening. Used the Salt buffet for both breakfasts. The staff were most helpful at check in and out and when the key cards would not operate the lifts. Very popular with Japanese and Chinese tourists.

Decided to give MEL DT a go. It's great to see a familiar face from HotP at check-in. Was immediately upgraded to the station view room. Had a chat with the staff at check-in who were very pleasant and proud of their new hotel which is always great to see. Overall, great experience, service and friendliness on par with HotP.
