How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Decided to give MEL DT a go. It's great to see a familiar face from HotP at check-in. Was immediately upgraded to the station view room. Had a chat with the staff at check-in who were very pleasant and proud of their new hotel which is always great to see. Overall, great experience, service and friendliness on par with HotP.

Great to hear, thinking of booking a room for next week. Thanks!

A good story for a Diamond member dealing with the HHonors Call Center (somewhere in the US, I guess). I have been making multiple bookings for a RTW trip in April/May over the last few weeks and made a booking on Thursday nite - very late - for New Orleans where the whole town was almost booked solid for the first weekend in May. I thought my son was joining us for the weekend so booked a 2 room suite (at a Homestead property) for three nights as cheaper than 2 rooms. When I contacted my son the next morning, he informed me that he had made other arrangements so I went on-line to rebook one room in another New Orleans Hilton.

I was most surprised to find that the original booking was non-refundable - this was definitely not clear on the original booking on-line or on the confirmation email so I was out of pocket some USD1800. Made a quick call to the Reservations number - they could not help but did transfer me to a delightful lady on the Diamond desk who was most accommodating in first taking the new booking, talking to the Homestead people (who had not even processed the withdrawal) and then giving me a cancellation number. She could not have been more efficient or pleasant. It all only took a few minutes.

That's how to treat an Elite! :p

Property: DoubleTree MEL
Date: February 2015
Rate: Govt
Booked: Inside king
Received: Inside king

Two bottles of water, chocolates and turndown.

The hotel was full so no upgrade was available. The WiFi speed was great with a code from the front desk for up to three devices. There are lights in the ceiling so the rooms are nice and bright.

This is in contrast to the breakfast buffet room which was quite dark. So much so that it was impossible to read the paper. Barista coffees are $5.50. Poached and fried eggs are to order, but that is it. I had scrambled eggs from the buffet as it was full and therefore should have been fresh. Fresh it may have been, but certainly not hot. Lukewarm is more appropriate.

At checkin I asked about an exec lounge. They are still in discussions re: the fourteenth floor and it 'may' be part of that development. I did suggest that they would lose gold and diamond members to HSW without one. They agreed.

Would I stay here again? Only if there was a significant difference in price from HSW.

I don't know. I went around the corner and got one for $4.20 after I had checked out. Next time I might get it and bring it in to have with breakfast.

I have a room booked in April that is considerably cheaper than HSW so I will see what 2 months brings.

Good coffee can be found literally everywhere in MEL, why would anyone get an overpriced coffee in a hotel is beyond me.

Probably just to enjoy over breakfast I would have thought

Fair enough. Personally I don't enjoy paying for something that should be provided with no extra charge as part of the breakfast (in a decent hotel that is) but we are all different.

Glad to report Hilton Perth still offers complementary barista coffee for breakfast.
Having to pay extra for a proper cup of coffee, or tea, as part of breakfast and the 1.5% cc surcharge are my pet hates. I continue to tell the supervisor each time and include it on the comment charge. I encourage others to do the same if they are concerned.

Status: Gold - but booked for daughter
Property: Hilton Reykjavik
Booked: Queen Room - advance purchase at approx AU$200
Received: Executive Room

Elder daughter currently on her post-uni RTW adventure. Stopover in Iceland seemed very far from home and I just wanted her somewhere warm and slightly familiar, so I booked her into this (against her backpacking independent spirit). Made a note on the booking it was not for myself but just for my firstborn and to please look after her. Which they did - wonderfully! A nor-1 upgrade request I made for an executive room appeared to be cancelled by the hotel, and she was treated to a lovely gold upgrade. Apparently lovely staff, comfortable rooms and plenty of Skyr. Very happy mum here - it seems silly but just that brand familiarity can be reassuring when your babies are a long way away!

Having said that it's free I need to add that the coffee is awful. Short black or long black would be OK but they seem to have no idea re adding milk in any way.

The barista who made your coffee was fired ;) my double shot latte today was very good.

definitely with you re first born and their mother

Not for this little black duck.
Charged $4 last month :(

Yep I was charged at Perth also and I am Diamond

My rather dim view of Hilton Parmelia has not brightened at all. I've been believing for some time now that the coffee "surcharge" had been dumped as a bad joke and really bad PR due to me not receiving a bill for a coffee for many, many months now. I'm now quite depressed to hear a Hilton with no lounge and ridiculous rates has the bloody audacity to charge for a coffee with breakfast!
