.... not to mention the prawns in the EL (since recently reappeared), and the oysters at HSYD. ;) And, the Glass breakfast about turn (although I'm glad that it's back).

I met the GM at HSYD for the first time a few weeks ago, no idea who he was but after having a chat for a few minutes about my stay and how often I was there he introduced himself. Was in casual clothes on a Saturdays so I'm assuming he was just popping in.. Seemed like a genuinely very nice guy.

Property: Conrad Singapore
Status: Gold
Dates: 14 - 19 July
Booked: Deluxe (formerly 'Business') Twin
Received: Executive Twin
Rate: ~AUD240 per night (deal, booked 5 nights, paid for 4)

Get the two (very minor) whinges out of the way first.

1) Checked my booking the day of travel and it indicated an upgrade to Exec Room had occurred - happy chappy as these things are never 100% guaranteed. Then upon check in the man welcomed me back and advised that as HH Gold I had been upgraded to a Deluxe Room and handed me an envelope containing a list of the associated benefits. I politely advised him that Deluxe was what I had booked. He apologised, tapped a few keys and said now it is an Exec Room and here is an alternate list of benefits. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt (that they're not trying to pull a swifty), but far from the first time I've heard of it happening).

2) On about day 3 we went out ~1100 and returned ~1530 and room had not been serviced. Now they have a lot of rooms to do, and there is no specific guaranteed time for it to be done by, but used to having it done by then. Also there is that nagging doubt that maybe your room has been overlooked somehow, and of course you can't kick off your shoes and relax too much/have a nap when you're expecting HK to knock on the door at any time. Mum found the guy doing another room, asked him to do ours 'soon please', and we went to the lounge for a while. Minor irritant only, and not really a 'fault' as such.

Those things aside the hotel was great (as is usually my experience here). All staff, from check in, to doormen, porters, concierge, HK, lounge, restaurant etc. were unfailingly polite, friendly and efficient (point 1 above excepted).

I have always popped down to Oscar's for breakfast but a couple we met in the lounge said they had been taking it in the lounge so we gave it a go on our second last day and it was fine. Obviously not as big a selection of food, but very quiet and relaxed (as opposed to the hustle and bustle that is Oscar's) and mum got a bowl of porridge sent up from downstairs each morning (took a long time because I don't think it is a dish they even offer down at Oscar's but they were happy to make it and it was apparently good). My needs were adequately covered (though I don't mind attacking the ice cream for breakfast in Oscar's ).

On our last evening we were heading out for dinner and to watch the rehearsals for SG50 (Singapore's 50th birthday) celebrations when mum (in her 80s) took a tumble near the hotel. A guy and his family were nearby and he turned out be an off duty Conrad employee. They provided tissues (mum was bleeding from the hand) and escorted us back to the hotel where the guy alerted on-duty staff. Out came some staff and the first-aid kit, along with the senior duty manager. They asked if mum wanted to go to hospital and after umming and aahing she decided to go to the room for a little while but was clearly in a lot of pain.

After about 15 minutes mum decided yes she should go to hospital and as we exited the room the manager appeared to check on her, and advised us Raffles was the closest hospital and arranged a cab (and gave us a very useful tip that would not have occurred to us in the turmoil - have your passport, the hospital requires it). Two fractures in her hand and five stitches required as well! Just as well she decided to go. Anyway, it was a sterling performance I thought from the hotel (though nothing less than what I would expect from a top level property) and I provided feedback a little later via an email.

Lastly (and this has also been my prior experience) we had a 2PM check out but did not need to be at the airport till about 5-ish, and there was no issue with us using the lounge for a few hours prior to leaving for the airport.

Sorry to hear about your poor Mum! I hope she feels better soon.

Just out of interest, has anyone received any recognition in the form of gifts for their milestone stay with HSYD?
Happy to report back, the milestone stay gift is not a myth at HSYD. :p I was presented with a brushed metal luggage tag with my name imprinted at the bottom. Really beautiful. Apparently it ended up in the wrong room last week and someone handed it in as it has my name on it.:D

Thanks, she's well on the mend. ðŸ
Good to hear.

How many stays?

How many stays?

Just to drift off topic just a wee bit, but with the 1000 night requirement for LTD (sounds like a Ford :D) and these little milestone pressies sneaking in, does anyone know how to find out your No. of stays/nights in your previous history? Obviously OnQ knows, but I don't have a clue and I'm guessing the various hotels can set prompts to advise them about it. I think I'm approaching 1/2 way to LTD in the year tally, but I have no idea about the nights :( (except I do know I'm a long, long way short of 1/2 way with those).

Good question, I'ld love to know too. Jess, correction, the stays I was referring to is the total for this year not all up.

I have occasionally wondered how to see that too - but I'm so far off that I've not really bothered to enquire.

i am currently at the DT JB, and whilst in the exec lounge was handed a form to fill in asking me for my preferences. Has anyone had one before? Questions like favourite sports, food and dessert. An off beat one was favourite board game. :?:

While I've never stayed there, at the 20+ other Hilton or affiliate hotels I've stayed at, that's never happened to me.

Very weird.
Probably an interpretation of a company memo to know your customer better..

How are you finding JB?

The hotel is very pleasant. I have done quite the MR since coming to Asia, so I will post all of them in one hit when I get home.

Getting to JB from SIN was 'interesting'.

Tell me about it! I've done it dozens of times - none of them very pleasant except in a private car after about midnight on a weekday.

I find it amazing that Changi airport is always so quick but a few Km away it's (almost always) so slow. Sometimes it's better to fly to JB (via KL) instead of to SIN and save a fair bit of time and sometimes even money (depending on where you are flying from).

Did you try the Transtar bus?
