How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Booked King Guestroom Plus for 3 nights
Upgraded to Exec Room on 28th floor.
I don't see how this is an upgrade. As a Diamond I get Exec Lounge anyway. It seems to me they just put me on a higher floor :what:

A well known problem in HSYD.
Technically you received double upgrade (Guestroom-Deluxe-Exec) sounds good right?
Practically, if you're diamond, you got same tiny room with no added benefits.

No it's not. That's pretty standard at Sydney sadly. 28th Floor isn't even very high. Do Sydney decide ad-hoc what rooms are Exec rooms I wonder ?

I'd be giving a bit of constructive feedback to the GM on that one.

Yes, this has happened to me once before ... a supposed 'upgrade' to exec room on the 27th floor (27!). In this hotel thats a pretty low floor, I was in amongst all the flight crews and the noise from the disco downstairs was awful. Big complaint followed and I've never been done over in this way since.

Having said that, I know what you are saying ... upgrade from a dog box to another dog box with a fancier name :)

Do Sydney decide ad-hoc what rooms are Exec rooms I wonder?

I've often thought the same thing PF! It seems to me, all the dogbox size rooms are the same thing with different names. So a room beside the lift motor room could be a King Guest, King Deluxe, King deluxe Plus or king exec depending upon occupancy levels on any given day. I'd hate to say it aloud, but I think it's a bit of a con.

Another thing at HSYD. Charged Full fare on checkin plus an additional $300 "just in case of additional charges". Never had this at a Hilton before. Was told that the additional charge would be returned to my credit card within 3 days of checking out.

I believe Hilton reserve $100 per day on CC for incidentals. It's normally returned earlier then three days, nothing to worry about.

I think there is also an option to leave cash for deposit in case you don't want to use CC and the money will be returned when checking out.

One good thing about accor is when you are an elite they dont take any pre auth for incidentals. .. just record the card

Both HSW and DT Mel only take a $1 Incidental for Elite customers... I think this is the best way.
As for HSYD, Everytime I've had an exec room it has been on level 35 or higher, usually 41 or 42 (by memory).. It's when I get a suite upgrade that I'm lower down.

I can't say I can recall any Hilton telling me they'll take a preauth. Conrad Rangalli did but that was to be expected. I don't think Cairns or HSP does it, at least not that I've been told about. In fact, they don't even ask for my card on check in, although it is on file.

We checked in to SYD Hilton on Wednesday afternoon for 2 nights. Given room 3722 and when we went into room I could not believe how small the room was. It would have to be one of the smallest rooms in the hotel. Down to exec lounge and the lovely manager moved us to a corner room. A big improvement. The normal exec rooms are small but the first room we were given was much smaller and really should not be given to couples. Would be ok for 1 but still a big downgrade in room size.

My first stay at Conrad SIN was a paid-in-cash Executive room as a HH Blue (nothing), and was on the 17th floor (EL is on 31 and I think 30 and 31 are the designated Exec floors?), so not just upgrades get lower floors. We got all the Exec bennies, but at that hotel the classic (base), deluxe and exec rooms are all pretty-much identically sized, it's just the benefits that go with 'Exec' that make the difference (apparently). Second stay was as a diamond (booked a base room) and I was upgraded to 31, just 10 metres or so down the hall from the lounge. :)

Yes, that room originally allocated would be the same size as most of the other rooms at HSYD. They are the dog boxes. :(

The main variation is being on a higher/lower floor. The Executive Rooms are the same size as the Deluxe and the Deluxe Plus, and have slippers/robes from what I've seen.

A few recent stays as a HH Gold

Property: DT Cairns
Booked: cheapest guest room
Received: Double double with partial ocean view and balcony

I arrived early in the day and the hotel staff were very friendly and personally went to inspect my room to see if cleaning had finished and provided me with a complimentary coffee while I waited. If you are unfamiliar with the hotel (i.e. don't know what rooms get ocean views) maybe don't do online check-in as they pretty much allocate you that room with no real upgrades.

Property: HSYD
Booked: cheapest guest room
Received: Executive room on top floor (level 43?)

Pleased with the room upgrade and lounge staff were very friendly.

Property: DT Melbourne
Booked: cheapest guest room
Received: who knows

I have no idea what type of room I received. It was on level 10 and an external room with a window so I guess I should be thankful. Breakfast is reasonable especially if you accidentally forget what is 'continental' at the buffet. Word of warning, don't stand too close to the juicer. I was wearing white pants and learnt the hard way.

I have stays at Conrad Bali and the Hilton and DT in Beijing coming up.
