General comments: Wasn't too impressed - was quite noisy the first few days because of construction. Pool was very unappealing, and put me off my plan to have a swim each morning. I had added two additional nights to the front of my booking, but their systems don't seem to recognise this well, as despite repeat reminders/corrections by me whenever the staff assumed I was only staying two days (during phone confirmations, at checkin), I was still posted an invoice under the door after the second night. A high-pitched buzzing kept me awake a couple of nights - I couldn't find where this was coming from (not the air-con - possibly from machinery on the roof across the road). On my next trip I will stay elsewhere.

Property: Pullman Melbourne on the Park
Status: Platinum
Room Booked: Superior King Size Bed
Room upgrade: Superior Suite Corner Park View, great room
Rate: Cheapest available
Free internet: Yes
Welcome drinks: Yes, 2 drink vouchers
Early check in / late out: arrived around 3pm, room wasnt ready, 2pm checkout (offered 4pm)
VIP treatment: Welcome plate of chocolate/cakes/biscuits, lounge access
Additional care: Nice Staff. Only gripe on the 2nd night of our stay went to the Exec Lounge,
all tables on the windows were taken. One had a reserved sign on it, asked the attendant why it was
reserved, didn't know. Anyway around 6:15, a couple walked in, removed the sign and the table
was there's. Should have known better and just sat there.

Packed the previous night (3rd day if the test). Besides all that, enjoyed the stay.

Great to see that the Accor group seems to have lifted their game lately!
This post may have locked in LeClub as my program of choice over IHG Rewards ...

Just out of interest, anybody an elite member of both and have any thoughts on how they compare in terms of quality of hotels, recognition of status and value of points earned in Australia? Hope this is an okay spot to ask this question.

Complex question - I prefer Accor by a country mile however I'm platinum with Accor and only gold with IHG
Accor is huge and covers many different brands, from no-frills IBIS to luxury Sofitel.

Suggest you take a look at this > Pros and Cons Of Le Club Accorhotels | LoyaltyLobby then ask specific questions and/or open a new thread in the Accor forum

Thanks M@rcoPolo! I read through most of the LoyaltyLobby articles, I love the pro and con lists of all the hotel chains.
From my understanding and further research it would seem Accor tends to offer better loyalty perks (if they recognise your status), but IHG offers better value for points and redemptions! :)
Thanks!

Hi Jonno Oon... IMO I would not pay for Accor advantage again.. but the chain itself (particularly the Novotel) is good and consistent all around the world.. and the points I have accumulated have been great for local city escapes :)

Thanks! It's great to see some really positive feedback about the Accor group as I've pretty much decided on them as my main hotel chain.
I will mostly be staying in Sydney, so the Sofitel and Pullmans there are great.

Great value for Paris on the sale rate.

Could become addicted to MGallery's if the they all like this one and the one I had in Geneva.

Property: Novotel on Collins
Staus: Platinum
Room Booked: Standard Twin
Room Upgrade: Nope
Rate: Points used (flexable rate)
Free internet: yes limited to 3 devices
Welcome drink: two vouchers
Early/Late check: not required but not offered/mentioned as available
VIP Treatment: none at check in, this hotel seems to offer no recognition at the check in desk of any status in my experience. hand written card, chocs and gift for kids in room, nice touch.
Additional care: love the location of this hotel but not really seeing the point in staying here now i have diamond with HH. In my 10 plus stays at this hotel in the last 12 months my experience as a le club member gold/plat has been underwhelming. staff are consistently good, it almost feels like a management decision to not fully offer the status benefits available to Le Club members.

Had a nice meal in the restaurant, good value with the Accor Plus Card.

Spent two nights in a room overlooking Collins st. No real noise to speak of during our stay. By the look of it most of the demo work done so noise if at all would be isolated

Property: Mercure Port Macquarie
Status: Platinum
Room Booked: Deluxe King Spa
Room upgrade: no, best available already
Rate: Members Rate
Free internet: Yes
Welcome drinks: Yes, 1
Early check in / late out: yes to 12pm
VIP treatment: Letter from manager, Internet, bottle of water
Additional care/notes: great value hotel, room was massive, bathroom was was probably 20sqm. Large balcony, room had a capsule coffee machine. First stay in a Mercure (only option in this town) and was pleasantly surprised, restaurant dinner was one of the best hotel dinners I've had and all staff were above average for friendliness and attentiveness.

booked directly with hotel for free parking, this was probably the only negative experience with confusion over rates, lost emails and inability to set the booking up properly so it attached to the website. Numerous emails later plus a phone call from the hotel and the reservations clerk had no idea what I wastalking about, so I gave up.

Sofitel Broadbeach
Plat
Classic river
Ocean view (floor 22 nice view)
group booking (was unsure if my status would be acknowledged)
room was nice and small gift of cake and bottle of water in room, no drink vouchers, no check in/out options given

interesting to see how i would be treated with a direct booking at this hotel for comparision

My default option for Australian Open, although its not worth the rates they charge at this time of year.
