So it turns out I had a win with this stay. I queried the bill and found that I was given $120 room credit, $60 more than the booking conditions permitted. I offered to pay the outstanding amount. They declined my offer advising it was their error and invited me back instead.

Of interest: I booked with non flexible conditions. I cancelled twice and was offered a rebooking option. I put this down to possible time share management arrangements. Indoor/outdoor furniture was mismatched and kitchey. The layout itself was modern. Overall, no complaints.

Not previously heard of anyone gaining access through Platinum status at this hotel in the past so can I ask if this was the case for you or did you have to pay extra dollars to gain access to the club lounge ?

Did not pay for any upgrade or lounge access.

Nice work

I was a bit surprised, I'd read the same comments everyone else has on this issue here, and I didn't ask for it. But talking to the manager the next day, he indicated that he'd be happy to extend the same courtesy next visit so perhaps they are changing their tune on this.

It was only 11am one day until 4pm the next, and I was there for 3 nights, but better than nothing and it certainly is a great lounge.

Pullman on the Park Melbourne

Status : Gold

Room Booked : Standard

Rate : Red Hot Rooms $94 per night

Upgrade : Yes - paid for to Executive floor & Lounge $50 per night / Then upgrade to suite.

Free Internet : Yes - but snail's pace in rooms

Early check in / late check out : Yes 1pm

Welcome drink : Yes for two

VIP treatment ; Nothing really apart from a signed card of welcome.

Lounge : I wanted to try it & as we had such a cheap rate I decided to pay the $50 for an upgrade (normally $110). Overall the lounge was disappointing, limited drinks & snacks & only a continental breakfast but quite OK. For the price I paid I can't complain. The lounge is no where near the quality of the Sofitel Melbourne or Brisbane. Unless I got another very good rate I wouldn't use it again.
The staff were very pleasant & helpful but the member in the lounge the first night was very efficient but really didn't want to be there.

I stayed there a little over a week ago and received a bump up from a Superior room to a Club room. I had lounge access granted for the two nights ( although I only used it for one) which was a bit of a surprise going on past experience with Sofitel Brisbane.

So it does seem highly likely that there has been change in policy.

So was this bump up for Sofitel Brisbane ?
