Stayed for one night on the weekend and wanted somewhere with a proper kitchen and laundry. We were greeted by Malcolm, who I remembered from my last stay here in 2022. He has a very memorable personality, is very enthusiastic about his job and provides great service.

The suite was well sized and had a very well stocked kitchen. We booked a baby bed but it wasn't in the room on arrival. On calling reception they had delivered one within 5 minutes with many apologies. The only downsides of the room were rather uncomfortable living room furniture (we didn't realise immediately but it was a fold out sofa bed) and the open shower had poor drainage resulting in water running out to the hallway anytime we took a shower with full water pressure.

The welcome gift felt more substantial than I've received at other Accor hotels lately - the macarons tasted fresh, and the Koko Black chocolate was a nice souvenir to take home.

Breakfast was a strong point. I didn't get many photos but there was a full hot selection, a few types of bread including bagels (!), smashed avocado, lots of fresh fruit, cheeses, yoghurts, etc. There was barista coffee available at no extra charge and they were happy to offer in takeaway cups too. No shortage of staff who promptly cleaned tables and collected unused plates.

I did get a welcome drink voucher but didn't manage to use it due to fairly restrictive hours on the hotel bar not working with my schedule (5pm onwards only)

Would probably stay again if the price was right.
Haven't stayed there in a few years either, so it is good to read your review and hear that breakfast was ok @sudoer as we have booked a night there in May to see Tommy Emmanuel at Hamer Hall next door.
@Denali will show some views from the Hamer Hall "office" 🎸

Property: Ibis Osaka Umeda

Room booked: Standard room with 1 king bed
Room upgraded/type: As booked, top floor though.
Rate: ~$155 a night
Free internet: Yes
Free Breakfast:  Yes
Early check in/late out: Auto given 2pm checkout but didn't need
Welcome drink: Yes but forgot to redeem
Welcome gift: No. Didn't expect any for ibis though.

Stayed here last year and enjoyed it enough to choose it again over the other options. It really only suits a single or couple though. The Mercure in Namba is well priced but I just like the location of the Ibis a lot more for our plans.

It has direct access to the underground Whity area, which is full of restaurants and further along you can connect to all 4 major stations to get around.

Room is fairly small but pretty clean and fairly quiet facing the road, though we were at the top. The bed is huge but it's really just 2 beds together. Bathroom is good enough, the water pressure is amazing though!

Breakfast buffet is a bit small but enough to keep us fuelled for the morning still, wouldn't pay the $20 it usually costs though.

Would still stay again but might try Mercure next time if we have less travelling around plans. Swissotel with suite upgrades might be nice though!

Welcome gift: Yes. A small box of toffees

As one of first stays in an Accor hotel as a diamond plus member this was a disappointing stay. So much so that, although we have decided to extend our stay in Bayeaux, we will not extend our stay here. I have been told that they do not provide free breakfasts on the weekend and that, as there are no mini bars in the room, they do not provide soft drinks to diamond members. (I could of course buy a small soft drink for eu5!)

The hotel requested we reuse our towels (fair enough). However as there is no guest laundry we are handwashing and used a towel to wring out our clothes. When we asked for new towels we were given beach towels!

The bathroom does not provide conditioner, body cream or a shower shelf. We have the impression that they are going out of their was to save money.

The final insult was charging our cc with eu500 for a eu230 stay. When we queried that we were told it was to cover the expenses we would have there! Looking at the very uninspiring restaurant, and the super expensive bar, I knew that wouldn’t happen!

PS Bayeux is a lovely town in a very interesting area of Normandy.

Many hotels in the Accor portfolio don’t offer breakfast. You need to check the list if unsure
I generally find properties in France offer the least status benefits and that’s as a long time Diamond who has stayed at many Accor properties in Europe and around the globe

Staying there in a few weeks. SYD+1 has booked as Accor Gold*. Will report back if I remember!

*after years of corporate travel and various hotel programs, SYD+1 has now discovered the benefits of hotel loyalty programs now that we’re both retired. That does cause some sometimes heated discussion on who books what… 😔

We chose not to stay there recently @SYD @muppet but opted for Mantra on Russell due to better reviews.

I reviewed Mantra on Russell as A+gold post #2695
Glad your experience was positive @muppet and at a great price!

General comments: The townhouse itself was quite modern and spacious and less tired than other similar properties I've stayed at. The pool was very pleasantly heated and quite large with a plentiful supply of pool towels. The pool even when busy never felt crowded. The tennis courts were well maintained and the hotel offered racquets and balls to players. Great courts to have a hit around on. I'm not a golfer so can't comment on the golf course other than to say it seemed to have a steady stream of golfers heading its way.

The onsite restaurant offered a very mixed experience. We arrived a little early for check-in and had lunch at the restaurant. We found the service quite off-putting. We were scolded for not having a booking when the restaurant was otherwise empty. We ordered some pizzas and the truffle fries to share. The pizzas had a nice crust on them, they could have had just a tiny bit more sauce but the toppings were of good quality and fresh.

Dinner was very pleasant with meals including the scotch fillet, seafood linguine and chicken schnitzel ordered. All were very enjoyable. The desserts were spectacular. The service at dinner was much friendlier.

After a decent lunch and very enjoyable dinner, we were excited for the breakfast buffet. However, breakfast was one of the worst I've experienced. The bacon was so old and dry it was tougher than a beef jerky and stone cold. The sausages shrivelled up and wrinkly and equally cold. The pastries looked stale and soggy rather than crispy. Even the tinned peaches on offer tasted like they were starting to ferment. They did have the option for some freshly cooked eggs to order and a small spread of cereals and breads which were fresh.

General comments:

Room was nice although the shower I thought had very low pressure.
Enjoyed the pool a couple of times but the steps to get in and out are pretty challenging.
I had dinner in Garcon Bleu which as always is excellent but the wines are way overpriced. $21 for a glass of Yangarra Shiraz
As always I found the toiletries had very strong scents so couldn't use them.
Quilt between two sheets and forgot to ask for another top sheet

Lovely hotel and good location

Free internet: Yes
Free Breakfast: Yes
Early check in/late out: Late checkout till 1pm bedgrudingly offered
Welcome drink: Yes - via app voucher and applied to meal at Embers
Welcome gift: Bottle of wine and cheese platter but nothing to cut cheese.....

Stayed in January for 4 days
Check in was fine but there was no concierge at entry and you have to drop car a decent walk away as the drop off area was manic and no parking spots

Kids running everywhere in foyer and we start to realise it was not going to be a couples getaway
Check in OK, a thank you for being platinum. There was mention of mini bar and even now I am confused as to whether she was telling us the basket of chips. drinks and chocolate were a gift... It wasnt explained well but we were not billed for a kitkat so possibly it was. There was also a bottle of shiraz and a cheese platter

Room service first night was delivered cold - just pizzas and fries as it was late and we were tired

Following night we had dinner at Embers and was pretty awful. We ordered the shared Tomahawk steak. It arrived and was inedible. The fat had not been rendered off the side (doubt it touched the gril)... the meat was super gristly and it was blue, not medium rare. For an expensive dish ($150) it was diappointing. When they collected dish they didnt ask why only 1 slice eaten. On paying we were asked and we commented how disappinting steak was. We were given drinks free but really that was just 1 wine and 1 beer as our vouchers applied to other two drinks. Accor discount of 50% was applied

Requested a late checkout of 3pm and told to ask on morning of departure. Originally told no then begrudingly given 1pm

Room size was OK but its a very tired hotel. it's quite beautiful and historic but the rooms need a refresh and my pet hate... shower over bath

The hotel was full of families and the kids are basically left to run out of control. Talking kids on scooters in the hotel reception.

There is an area in breakfast area for platinum and diamond but just a small cordroned off area. I dont know why they dont mke the Embers restaraunt out front exclusively for members and adults only. The breakfast was OK, normal buffet breakfast but nothing spectacular. Great start to the day though and the girls making the coffees were lovely

If i stayed agani it would only be if they have a designated adults only floor - preferably top level. Kids were running up and down hallways screaming late at night and early in morning . On a positive - if you have kids it is well set up with games rooms library and outdoor things like a huge slide

Housekeeping was hit and miss. One day they replaced 1 towel but left the others and left bed unmade. A dirty linen napkin from the first nights welcome amenity was left on the mini bar .

The whisky bar was the highlight. If you like whisky they had a decent selection but their bar tender was a 15/10. He made the best Old Fashioned I have ever had

I wanted to love it because it could be amazing but it's just old and tired and it doesnt cater for couples and adults at all. They really need to address that as it seems it woukdnt be horrendously hard to do

I have to go back next January but i think we will look elsewhere

Sorry no photos, first time reviewing - will do better :)

Going to Hobart and tossing up between Movenpick and Crown. Any thoughts on which is better?

Platinum status with both Accor and IHG

Thanks!

I’m considering booking the Sebel Sydney Martyn Place but note it does not seem to have an onsite restaurant or bar.
Can anyone advise whether Platinum and Accor Plus status is honoured at this hotel and how they go about with complementary breakfasts and welcome drinks etc.
Thanks

If you do a dummy booking it should show if breakfast is available. It is listed as offering complimentary breakfast

There's nothing on-site - they say that they work with a partner and do name Piccolo Me, which is on the other side of the same block. No Accor Plus, but it's only a few blocks to Delta Rue at the Wentworth, or the other direction to Ten Stories at the Swissotel.
Not sure how welcome drinks would work - some places have a fridge or shelf at reception, or one place said I could just raid the minibar.

Can't comment on the Crowne Plaza but the Movenpick is good - especially the onsite restaurant Tesoro for both breakfast and lunch/dinner discount via Accor Plus. Quite a few reviews in this thread mention it.

Ignoring any status benefits: Movenpick is slightly classier but I'd plump for the CP, esp if you are relaxing on site; the outside terrace on L4 is very nice. The lounge on the inside of that is OK too. The Movenpick only has its attached Italian restaurant Teroso, which has a bar.

Aura (restaurant) on the top floor of the CP is excellent.

BTW if you are at the CP, there is good coffee at Criterion St Cafe just round the corner or Villino, just up the same road a bit.

@Rocks if you are arriving by hire car, parking in front of both can be difficult - there is just one space for the hotel in front of the CP and they valet park (else you park at a meter nearby and they will find it). The Movenpick is a bit better.

Property: Mercure Sydney Liverpool
Status: Accor+ Platinum
Room booked: Standard - 1 King Bed (base)
Room upgraded/type: Yes - Executive King Suite
Rate: Accor Plus Rate - $179
Free internet: Yes
Free Breakfast: Yes
Early check in/late out: Neither required
Welcome drink: Yes - via app voucher
Welcome gift: The classic accor snack bar pack - dressed up in a fancy mercure box which was hiding 2 snack bars instead of the usual 3. Perhaps an enhancement.

Picked, like my other recent Western Sydney Stays, based on being close to my plans for the following morning and to save me driving through traffic from closer to the airport.
Its a perfectly fine 4 star hotel, situated within the compound of Liverpool Catholic Club.
Drinks voucher was able to be used within the club, or to take something from the minibar which was behind reception.
Nice upgrade to a large spacious suite which wasn't mentioned at all by the front desk.
Room and hotel are clean, functional but nothing fancy or polished.
Breakfast was bang average if I'm generous, and in an unappealing dining room that appeared to be a steakhouse in the evening, and would be a truly depressing setting for a nice meal.
Welcome gift was as minimal as possible I'd say - not that I book with that in mind, but it stood out as the least that has been provided for a while.
Easy free parking outside and close to the highways to keep moving.
I'd stay again, and was appreciative of the upgrade, but I think both Paramatta Novotel and Mercure Rouse Hill recent stays were probably nicer hotels overall.
