How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

Does Accor Platinum give you executive lounge access as Swissotel in Sydney if not booked into a executive room? If so, do you need to ask for access or is it automatically coded on your room card? Also is breakfast decent in the lounge or better in the restaurant? Thanks in advance

Yes - Platinum now get access to all lounges in any room (as long as it has a lounge) except for Fairmont Gold. If the hotel has a lounge, then your complimentary breakfast will be served there, otherwise it will be at the hotel restaurant.

I haven't personally been to the Swissotel since I hit Platinum, but the lounge breakfasts in other Accor properties across Asia have been pretty good!

The lounge breakfast is on the average side at the Swissotel Sydney. I can't comment on the restaurant though. One morning looked to go there but the line way large so just went back to the lounge.

To be fair, it wasn't bad but a step down from say a Sofitel.

As an Accor Platinum you’ll have access to any available executive lounges during your stay even if you book the most basic room. The only exception to this rule are Fairmont lounges which are limited to Diamond and Limitless members. In theory you should be able to check in to the lounge and yes your keycard will be coded so you can access the lounge floor/room.

Can’t comment on the Swissotel specifically as my lounge nights were spent at Sofitel, Pullman, Mercure and ibis properties. However, it may be that the lounge is nicer as it will be less busy and there might be an option to order a la carte instead of grabbing slop from the buffet

re Lounges: (This seems reasonably up to date):

However I stayed last week at SYD Airport Pullman - they no longer operate a lounge but do provide complimentary 'select' drinks and canapes to Platinum/Diamond in their bar 5pm to 6:30pm.

That link is woefully out of date, for instance it lists the Pullman as having a lounge! And doesn’t list the BNE Pullman which has a lounge.

There is a exec lounge on the 1st floor @serfty . It's tucked in the back rh corner passed the lifts.
Nothing fancy, coffee machine, cold soft drink cans, bikkies & nuts. Sometimes is used for biz meetings.

Not mentioned in the letter I was given...

Yep, I often go up there and grab a few soft drinks for our room. It also is always pretty much empty so a nice play to relax

It as once the main lounge but since they moved to the snacks/drinks in the restaurant area it’s pretty much a useless area that sometimes holds meetings. I just go in there and help myself to soft drink and water and will go in there and read the paper or do some work on my laptop. Have hardly ever seen anyone else in there and they don’t advertise it

True, but it's there for exec. guests to use.
When is being used for meetings, I've been told to get a soft drink from the bar.
Except they fail to mention it's existence. I was there twice in Jan and had no idea.

The 'exec lounges' at Pullmans at both BNE and SYD I found were barely worth the title. I wonder if respective managements are underplaying (hiding) them so they can say "Oh, not being used much, we can close them down". ?

I have yet to find a Pullman lounge I like excluding the former Hyatt in AKL, although the King George Square property in BNE was OK, especially as Plats had access when staying at the Mercure Tower. I was spoilt by the IC Syd as a former RA, they set a pretty high bar, although the ADL property came close, both have now relocated their lounges.

I'm fairly new to hotel status and haven't been to that many Tokyo hotels to compare but I feel so unsure about this stay, especially for the price.

Location is great for food for sure, if not overwhelming. The various lines at Shimbashi station should get you most places but bit of a walk for some of the lines at the back!

The hotel theming is just gorgeous, really well done. It's not the brightest though, I guess that's kind of the point but it won't be for everyone. The room was just as good, decent enough room for 2 people but quite dim lighting too. The room has double windows and we were on the 10th floor and could still hear the trains below. Thankfully not a huge bother as we stay up a bit later and they generally stop by 12 anyway.

All of this is hugely let down by the bathroom though, or maybe just the shower specifically. The bathroom has 2 dim lights which is just doable but not great for those who need it more. Unfortunately they do use a shub in this room, but the shower head is just a single fitting on the wall, no option to adjust in any way. The shower curtain also isn't long enough and if water gets out, it's not going to drain fast. This felt like such a downgrade, especially for the usual $300+ p/n, I'm not sure if this is common for Tokyo but every other hotel we stayed in Japan was better. Also compared to the other Mercure we stayed at.

The breakfast is a bit strange, it's a mix of buffet and choosing one ala carte menu option. Not a huge range of buffet but you can fill up fine enough. Hard to imagine it normally costs $43!

The lounge was really nice, nice view out over the train lines and some good drink options. Food is not quite my style but the quiches were to die for!

I'd stay again but it would have to be for the right price... The Ibis styles in Ginza east felt like a better option if you'll rarely be at the hotel but Mercure if you're looking to stay in a bit!

Wanted to stay closer to the airport for the last couple days just to unwind a little and not have the extra stress of moving everything in the morning during peak hour. The hotel runs a shuttle to and from a few times a day and only takes 10-20 minutes.

Can't really fault this hotel! Good location down the road from Otorii station. Nice foyer and room, though we did face the trains again but wasn't too bothering for us. Honestly not that bad if you used it as a main hotel for a Tokyo visit, though the train was often quite busy at all hours, still avoid peak if you can.

Breakfast buffet is decent, enough options to choose from,.but I wouldn't call it quality haha.

Would definitely stay here again! I'd love to see Accor expand to other areas of Tokyo though.

I am assuming that you are referring to the Pullman Auckland Hotels & Apartments? If so, then yes, I would agree with your sentiment here (my review is here). It is a nice hotel to stay at. Location wise it's good, not as centrally located as the SO, but on the other hand a lot less street noise. Breakfast was good and it also has an executive lounge should you hold Platinum (or better) Accor status (or book a room with that benefit).

Just thought I'd ask: did your room have minibar service? When I stayed there back in 2023, they didn't have a minibar (on account of COVID) which was a bit of a let down as I was intending to raid the minibar as a Accor Platinum (you get unlimited soft drinks from the minibar at MGallery properties as a Platinum)

Was the query re Fairmont directed to me?

I am unsure is the answer! On check in we were told about a basket in our room and we assumed it was a mini bar . The basket sits outsde fridge and it had some soft drinks (hot), chips and chocolate. I think she was telling us it was complimentary but she didnt do it very well. I think complimentary as we were not charged for a chocolate we ate

I really wish they would do a floor with adults only....

When I was there in October, they brought through some perspective clients to show them the space while myself and my partner were in there - no apology, they just pretended that we did not exist :) At least the TV's were on for your visit, but no one made us aware of the benefits at the bar (maybe its a new thing since then).

BNE Airport Pullman on the other hand - was there on NYE and loved the 'happy hour' with generous canapes. Its executive lounge also seemed to be more well used, despite the 'happy hour' being at the bar. Maybe this is the inspiration for what has happened at the SYD Airport one.
