Yes that's what I did. Applied early January.
Hilton status is generally given for the remainder of the calendar year it is obtained as well as the subsequent calendar year until end of March the third year.
Thus any status upgrade/ attainment in 2012 will expire end March 2014.
The Hilton Honors rep I spoke with made no mention of 4 stays to keep the diamond status ( although I will easily exceed that so its a moot point for me )

Applied for the Hilton Diamond upgrade today...let's see how long it takes to be upgraded to Hilton Diamond.

Can I ask others, how many received a HH confirmation email and how many just got the upgrade in their account?

I can't remember ever actually getting an email, just had my membership (pre-existing) upgraded on line. I've never received a card either, despite ordering it twice on line without success.

Naw, stuff it, let's be greedy. Just spoke to HH Diamond desk and they were very apologetic, understood what I was talking about immediately and extended my diamond through to 31 March 2014..................

Who am I to argue!

But to be fair, I have clocked up 11% of my diamond requal base points in the first month of this year and with my forward bookings have accounted for about 1/3 of my needed points, so I had no real doubt about requal this year anyway. So nice to see a very proactive approach and with the level of service I've received so far, I'm very happy to continue to support Hilton.

To be honest, I feel that Hilton do treat their elites a lot better than other hotel loyalty chains. When it come to mistakes, not only will they promptly fix it, they will also offer reasonable compensation to keep us happy. Well done on that.

Ummmmm. Yes, so do I , but aren't memories fickle things ........Hilton has very much made up for the few difficulties I had last year (listen up HSW). I am really looking forward to a stay at HSW (last aborted time, we went for a look instead of a stay.....a $1000 stay, had an overpriced coffee and decided we sort of liked the ground floor.....except it's dark).

Great to hear! These SMs are successful because of us diverting our spend in support. To be honest, based upon my previous business model, DJ would have lost my meagre gold spend by now if the only unit of measure was BFOD. Hilton would never have achieved more than an occasional flutter, Europcar was (and still is to a degree) a pain, but are too delivering and between these three, I see Value.

Well done DJ, I can whinge (and do whinge...occasionally ).....but I also tip my hat to you. You will never satisfy all the people all the time, but if you continue to listen, to offer improvement (failing that, consistancy), you will win over (and just as importantly, keep) many of us!

Virgin Platinum Diamond Promotion

I opted into this offer in Nov last year. i heard some rumours that the 6 month offer would be extended to 12 if four stays were completed in the first 6 months. My card says expiry March 2013. Can anyone confirm this. i was thinking of staying 5 nights in Brisbane with Hilton 4 nights separated by a one night stay in the middle at another property to increase points earn to QFF and complete 2 stays. Are there any known issues with this. Any advice appreciated.

The expiry date you have seems to be in line with what others have.

The splitting of stays as you rate doing is a relatively common FF manoeuvre.

.... although for it to be a true mattress run it would be one night Hilton, one night elsewhere, one night Hilton etc.

My wife does not understand my QF status runs so there is no way I will attempt a mattress run with her but it is a great way to describe the hotel status run. So the general consensus is that despite saying the offer was for 6 months it appears to be universally to March 13.

To be more correct, it is general consensus that the majority of HH diamond status matches have had March 2013 (or 2014 for 2012 applicants) printed on their card as an expiry date. Whether than transpires without staying 4 times in the first 6 months is yet to be determined. No one has actually reached that magical 6 month juncture as of yet, but from my (agreed, unusual) experience with them of late, seems to suggest they very much know when our 6 months is up at least. Whether diamond is revoked without the 4 stays is anyones guess but we should start hearing about it around the end of this month.

Yes, I believe the properties will know without intervention. Obviously upgrades are only processed based on availability and that availability can't be determined until a day or two prior. It makes sense, therefore, that status is not looked at until close to arrival.

Status updated to Diamond 5 working days and 8 calendar days after Velocity opt-in. Manually requested online HH to mail me a new member card rather than wait up to 2 months.

When I spoke with HH they confirmed that my status was valid until March 31st 2014 When asked if my status was conditional (6 month Velocity criteria) the HH Agent was unable to determine based on her account visibility, but did state that there was a code applicable to my status.

I'm still waiting on my PC status to come through - contacted Virgin almost a week ago. They replied they would follow up, but yet to hear anything further. At this rate, my status match will be concluded well before the hotel status arrives. . . . . .
