Any rhyme/reason in how long before complimentary hotel partner membership kicks in?
HiThought long about posting this, as I don't like my first post on this fantastic forum to be a negative one. So let's start with something positive: I think Velocity's family pooling is great, and the deal with Singapore Airlines which kicked in 5 days before Mr Sunburnt, Master Sunburnt and I flew to Europe on Singapore Airlines is excellent, especially for an irregular flyer like me!Not surprisingly, I reached gold somewhere during this trip. With a business trip to Southeast Asia planned in March, I opted in to Hilton Honours and Europcar on Feb 22. Not happy to then get an email saying it might take up to 20 business days to come through - that would take me nicely over the end of my trip... so an email sent off to Hilton Honours on March 8 to see if it could be sped up. A very polite and quick reply that unfortunately, they had not yet received anything from Velocity. Called Velocity, which confirmed that they had not sent anything yet, and that it was their systems which were slow. Filled out a feedback form on line, Velocity then replied that:
Once you have opted in, our partner will endeavour to send an email confirmation within 20 business days. You will then receive your partner welcome pack and membership card 30-40 business days from receipt of the confirmation email.[..] If you do not receive any correspondence after 20 business days, please let us know and we will be happy to follow this up with Hilton HHonors.
which made me wonder whether they read my email beyond a cursory glance. I followed up with another email, remaining polite of course, explaining that their own call centre
and Hilton had stated that nothing had left
Velocity yet. No reply to that email to date. I then wrote it off as not worth my time, and went on my business trip. Checked in last Friday in a Hilton property and unsurprisingly, no upgrade, no free breakfast/internet etc. Oh well. There are worse things in life. But here's what really got my goat: my colleague, whom I told about the complimentary membership on March 8, checked in at that same Hilton one day later. You guessed it, he got the upgrade to the Executive floor, the works. (And he is 'only' a matched Qantas gold - he didn't even fly with Virgin or Singapore Airlines
). My gold status has lost a bit of its shine....
