I have an account and I applied today and they want to do the 100 point check. Unreal. I rang up and it was the old offshore call centre brick wall.

Got 100 point check done at Auspost on Friday morning. Logged in this morning and fully approved. More efficient than expected.

Applied last Friday as a brand new HSBC customer, and had the card in my hands this Thursday. It was generally a smooth and easy process.

Signing up for online banking was not so smooth, and I now have a Personal Banking ID, a User Name, a User Password, a Phone Code, and a Digital Secure Key Password. Hopefully I will be able to mostly get by with just two of those ID instruments!

I am thinking of applying for this card, to replace my Qantas Credit Card. I notice is has the usual comment about the that you can't spend on government services as part of your $3000 spend to get the bonus points. I just wondering if anyone who has used this knows how strict it is. I have some council rates due in the new year. With the Qantas credit card, it was quite random, my public transport expenses counted for points, but my water bill didn't..

I also wonder if I try and pay it via paypal, or postbillpay, if I could hide it.
Any advice would be great

Postbillpay and/or paypal should hide the transaction. But I can't specifically confirm for this card.

I just got this card last month. Tried to pay my rates using Postbill pay with PayPal but didn't get any points. Haven't gotten my first statement yet but I can see the points for all other transactions online. Guess I'm going to have to spend that portion again just in case.

Just did a check of transactions, and it appears that my rates paid via paypal did not accrue any points either o_O also noticed that i received no points for my gym membership... i have a feeling that this is due to it being run by melbourne city council, so probably gets classified as 'government charges'. might drop an email or call to clarify

Yeah, got my statement and no points. Thought PayPal could hide the transaction but I guess not.

So does this mean you wont get the bonus points now?

I've got this card and have done a large spend with DEFT payments for strata fees. I'm expecting this to count towards the $3000 required for the bonus points.

Terms does say:
Eligible purchases exclude interest free and other promotions, balance transfers, business expenses, cash advances, fees and charges, disputed transactions, BPAY® and any government fee or charge.

and I assume rates fall under "government fee or charge". This is my first month so I'm going to spend the portion just in case. As someone else mentioned here, probably best to have earn 3000 points from spend to make sure.

In the fine print, does HSBC say that payments made via a 3rd party do not qualify for points?

The above term is also included in how Qantas Points accrue so I'm guessing no matter how you pay, if it's a government fee you earn no points? Other PayPal transactions I've made from online shopping had no issues and all points posted.

Received a $25 Coles Myer gift card in the mail yesterday for a promotion back in August, don't even know about the details of the promotion

Applied 17/11/2017. Spent the required $3000 within a few days. Most of this was via a large DEFT payment for my strata fees. 60000 QFF points posted 7/12/2017. Annual fee charged 4/12/2017. No statement issued yet but just cancelled the card. Quick easy points on offer from HSBC :)

Good to hear. Looks like they've learnt from the problems they had about 12 months ago which cost them a bunch of free points because they failed to award the bonus points within the allotted time frame.

I'm still serving out my 18 month exclusion period. Have about 6 months to go.

Used the letter you've previously put up here or in another thread to cancel. 18 month exclusion is such a long time!
