I guess in that respect, there were very very few who could make use of a DSC offer in such a manner, requiring 392000 QFF points and P availability on specific flights in the generally short offer period.
As such I place these in the category of "Rainbow Unicorns" and discount them.
You could also ask why getting cheap flights in Asia, or to/from Asia and adding on a couple of domestic tag flights for a few extra dollars isn't cheating your way to status either. Or why flying around the North America isn't cheating. But someone wants to pay extra for a bundle and they're destroying the whole status system.

And the whole point of a DSC offer is to get you to spend when QF need an influx of cash, or to reduce their liabilities. Them "giving" status as a result is the payout for getting people to spend money.

TD I believe that the person in question may have had a DSC offer AND a comfort seat.
...and I suspect that is why some feel that DSC's with mASA's was perhaps, what is the word I am looking for, argh yes, insane from QF's perspective.
I am pretty sure that the boffins at QF knew exactly what they were doing.The thing with MASAs. QF got my points and my cash. More cash than I would normally have parted with. Now AA gets my cash and I still have status. The boffins at QF really didn't think that through properly.
And they are entitled to their opinion. The fact remains that people were buying flights that they otherwise would not have. Which is a win to QF.
