IHG Hotels that recognise status

In case I have missed it.

Is there any feedback on the HI Townsville :?:

Bill, its a nice hotel just recently refurbished, I will post a recent report tonight! I will be staying there late in the month for you know what ;)!

Status: Royal Ambassador Platinum
Hotel: Intercontinental Wellington (NZ)
Booked: Std Room, non-smoking
Rate Type: Corporate rate which includes discounted breakfast (for NZ$15)
Received: Club level room and Club Lounge access
Welcome Amenities: Personalised letter informing of Club benefits, plate of fruit, two bottles of complimentary water

Status: Royal Ambassador Platinum
Hotel: HI Townsville (The Sugar shaker)
Booked: Executive Suite on top floor
Rate Type: PP BOGO
Received: Executive Suite on top floor
Welcome Amenities: Card from Manager and bottle of CabSav

Notes: Hotel has been renovated, stayed in a standard room in Feb and it seemed to have more done to it than the 6 suites on the top floor, for instance the bathroom has not been touched and is a stupid design. Saw the same thing at HI Darwin, nice room update but what about the bathroom, yellow loos are not cool when they were made white.

Other interesting notes, pre-checkin before I got there, this process seems to mean that there is not newspaper request noted on your file, can get one from the restaurant but its a long ride form the 19th floor in your PJs, it also meant no one asked for my cert for the BOGO - sweet :)

Restaurant is great for breakfast $19 for 2 with PP discount and good fresh food, but service was terrible at both dinner and breakie, found a nice restaurant however opposite and somewhat hidden on the banks of the Ross River - atouchofsalt.com.au, fantastic coral trout was fish of the day. Also grab a coffee at Dominion Coffee which is opposite - good stuff.

The mall is being ripped up so the place is a mess, good parking can be obtained on the street free after 6PM good for 9AM the next day M-F. Stayed Tues-wed this week.

Personally I check what type of room that they are giving me at check in and then , if there is no upgrade, then point out that I am entitled to one

Of course, should they then still not give one, then go to room and go to priorityclub.com and check availabililty there

My experience in Melbourne is that Crowne Plaza's idea of an upgrade is a room with a casino view. The Flinders Lane and Airport HIs have consistently given me a suite

Dave

Why is it, that you always get a suite upgrade when travelling on your own - 3/3 Sheraton on the Park, last month, thanks - but (almost) never when with a partner/special friend/friend/offspring/etc?

I am SPG equivalent of NB!

A question I have often wondered myself (and not a specifically PC issue)

Status: Ambassador Platinum
Hotel: HI Darwin
Booked: Standard Double
Rate Type: Ent card
Received: Harbour View Twin
Welcome Amenities: Nil - think the bottles of wine have gone in favor of the PC reception on Thursday nights.

Status: Ambassador Platinum
Hotel: CP Darwin
Booked: Harbour View King
Rate Type: Ent card
Received: Arafura Spa Suite
Welcome Amenities: Two bottles of water by bed.

I would happily say no to the fruit/wine/managers card etc if I got this upgrade more often, a very nice room!

Forgot one from March 2010.

CP Norwest (Sydney West)
PC Gold
Standard room - a Saturday night (hotel seemingly empty by the number of other customers I saw - 1!)
Free newspaper, drink voucher (for one drink) , letter from manager.
Well, they did have a cookie jar in the lobby to "help yourself" on checkin.

Did the job but would hardly be one of the better CPs i've stayed at. Staff were good however.

Dont think I have ever got an upgrade at the HI, they only have the two suites, however I do like the room except when they are dearer than the IC, which happens a lot.

I have before, but on mid-week stays. Weekends, the place seems to fill up.

Hotel: Holiday Inn on Flinders (MEL)
Booked: 2 Double Beds Superior
Rate Type: Best Flexible Rate $220
Received: I upgraded rate plan at Check-in to Flinders Package (includes 2 of 4 options, I chose Internet and Breakfast) $260. Received as booked
Welcome Amenities: Welcome Note from GM, 2 Hilliers chocolates and a big welcome back from the lovely Amanda (Head Concierge, who remembered me, not bad considering I haven't stayed here in probably 2 years). Below is a big reason why I'd keep coming back:

Amanda Morrison Award.jpg

Also should take me a long way to re-qual Platinum (with all the bonuses I'll get)

Nice to see that Amanda Morrison has been selected by HI to be one of the "Meet the Staff" on their Facebook site. Well, I did ask fo her to be considered, so I must be one of the "by popular demand"

Status: Platinum
Hotel: Holiday Inn Silom (BKK)
Booked: King Executive
Rate Type: Corp Rate
Received: King Executive & free breakfast (but charged for the free Internet I should have had)
Welcome Amenities: Welcome Note from GM, Personal escort to room after checkin.

First time I've stayed at this hote and it's very nice (looks newly renovated) - checkin staff are very pleasant but checkout was quite brash.

Hotel: ANA Crowne Plaza Hiroshima
Booked: 1 Single Bed Standard
Rate Type: Advance Purchase JPY 7550 (avg. per night inc. all taxes)
Received: 1 Twin Bed Standard. Basically a room which has two beds instead of one, and anywhere between 17 - 69% more floorspace.
Welcome Amenities: None.

Very nice check-in and front door staff and a very nice hotel. Feels much nicer than the Crowne Plazas in Australia / New Zealand. Bell captain was very helpful in arranging luggage delivery service as well as notifying my onward accommodation of the delivery. I chose the hotel for the rate but I would gladly come here again.

Status: Platinum
Hotel: ANA Crowne Plaza Narita
Booked: 1 Single Bed Standard Mountain Side
Rate Type: Advance Purchase JPY 8010 (inc. taxes)
Received: 1 King Bed Deluxe Airport Side.
Welcome Amenities: Welcome card from manager, two chocolates, welcome letter offering:
  • Free flask of sake at Saifu Restaurant
  • Free standard beverage with a meal at Ceres Cafe
The welcome letter offerings seem to be standard across Priority Club members, but I can't be sure (the text before it says "Restaurant special offer for Priority Club Members").

Unlike Hiroshima, the internet here is not free of charge, but at unlimited internet for 24 hours costing JPY 735 inc. taxes, that's still a **** load cheaper than in Australia.

Hotel: Crowne Plaza Adelaide
Booked: 1 superior double
Rate Type: family and friends
Received: Exactly what I booked.
Welcome Amenities: None.

Was acknowledged as a PC Gold member and presented with a print out of my up to date points balance. overall a great experience and in a great location. I'll almost certainly be choosing the CP over the IC in Adelaide in the future!

Hotel: Intercontinental Melbourne Rialto
Booked: 1 King Deluxe
Rate Type: AP $236 (plus the 1.5% cc surcharge )
Received: What I booked.
Welcome Amenities: None.

Not acknowledged as PC member or anything at check-in or check-out. Asked to ensure my number was in the booking and it was. Was my first stay, I would go back again. However, baggage left with porters took 45 minutes and 2 calls to get delivered to my room. I usually keep it with me but my room wasn't ready on arrival. Porter apoligised profusely when it was finally delivered and also rang about 15 minutes later to see if everything was in order and if I needed anything, so that was a very nice touch.
