I'm feeling a bit sad ...[My SC's are getting wiped today... =( ]

i had a similar wheel to yours above except it was about "Keep Gold" lol - would it be reasonable to think IT is now instantaneous and that change now happens within one-two days? so if that was the case, you would have 'retained' Platinum. (alternatively the safe landing is never ending Gold!)

IIRC it can take quite a few days for all those dials to align and your status is accurately reflected on the website. Without an email or new card in the hand - it's a sure bet a drop is on the way. The Gold safety net is a nice feeling.

Am sure this has been asked before but if one is Platinum and only makes 400 odd credits in the following year is gold guaranteed or is there a chance one could drop straight to silver?

Did all that flying to make plat and then haven't been traveling as much commercially to really enjoy it sadly........,

My membership year ends today and unfortunately with 400 QF SCs for the year I won't requalify for QF Gold this year. :(

It's been great while it lasted. I've travelled extensively while I had gold status, taking advantage of dozens of airport lounges around the world. I even got two free upgrades - one on MH & one on QF. I Will definitely miss the benefits of status.

Despite the amount of travel I did last year I won't requalify for three reasons;
1. A large proportion of my long-haul flights were on points, meaning I didn't earn any SCs for them
2. I did a lot of flying on non-oneworld airlines last year while I was in Germany
3. Simpler and fairer - I have lost about 50 SCs all up directly due to changes in partner airline status credit earn. Had the changes not been implemented, I would be less than 160 SC short - and I could have made up 160 SCs with a LAN J run to AKL and back. But now the earn on this route has been halved. Double-whammy.

Oh well. I'm sure I'll probably earn it again some time in the future. Perhaps re-earning gold is something to work on this membership year.

My SCs also get wiped today. I ended up 140 short of SG.

As I posted in another thread a few weeks ago the randomness of the double/50% bonus SC doesn't make sense to me. Chasing 140SC at full rate wasn't worth the dollars for me, but probably at 50% bonus and certainly double SC I would have gone for it. It would have been easy revenue for QF.

Surely it would be simple for the QF boffins to create an algorithm that generates an offer for people within 30 or 60 days of anniversary who are within say 20% of the SCs required to requalify or gain the next status level. It might generate some easy revenue and fill some otherwise empty J seats.

Well after 12 years as WP, tomorrow I will drop to SG. I earned 690 SC's this year and am LTG.

Even though my 10 year average is approximately 2500 SC's, my average for the past 3 years has dropped to 950 SC's, so no comp for me this year.

I'll hit 30000 life time SC's next year, so all I can hope for now is LTP, or a change in jobs.

Let us just say, Mattg, that you have plenty of time ahead of you to scale dizzy heights again...;).

All good things must come to an end sometime, Reggie :(. At least you, like me, have backup - humiliating as it is :-|. BTW: LTP? - fuggeddit.

Currently I am SG after dropping from WP even after not achieving 600 SC. This term I will just scrape into SG. This is good enough for my purposes as travel these days is recreational not business. The majority of flights are OneWorld business class and under the old Qantas system I would have maintained WP. sai la vie.

van, I think your situation is exactly what the Qantas "S & F" system is targeting.

The sad part of that is that by doing so a lot of people may realise that they will now not regain WP and may start to look at other options that are more cost effective, or heaven forbid reduce the number of perhaps unnecessary flights taken to maintain status, once SG has been achieved and thus drive revenue away from QF. Cutting off nose to spite face I do believe its called.

It has certainly done that for me.

From the Dizzy heights of WP1 dropped to WP January and we are now into the 4th Month and my status credit count YTD is a HUGE total of 20. So the new S&F has certainly driven me away.

I doubt there's a reliable way to measure, but I wonder how many of those who complained long and loud at the time of the change, and threatened to take their business elsewhere have actually done so.

Well it's now December and my 1205 SCs will be getting wiped today. I think that's the closest I've come to requalifying since I first attained WP. I was comped but did a little run to get WP in my own right.
