Introducing Platinum One

What do you think the new card will look like?

Here's to hoping it's made of pure platinum so that I can melt it down and turn it into jewellery when my wife wants to leave me for travelling so much.

Pretty sure it's like the WP card with "Platinum One" on the front.

I can't remember the last time I needed to show my card. It stays in my desk in my office.

Been there, done that.

One way to reduce some of the issues is to take her with you, ensuring you do nothing special for her. Same hotel rooms, same meetings (introduce her as your PA), same taxi rides, same restaurants and same working hours. Did that once, for 2 weeks. She went home after 6 days, saying she did not know how I did it. I still pay in jewelry but she is much more tolerant and understanding that it is not a holiday nor something that she would enjoy or do.

BTW the AA Concierge Key card is reported to be made from graphite, so QFF may do something special for their WP1 like clone.

Hehe classic. However she is onto that, she has absolutely no interest in travelling with me for business.

Smart girl. Nice move.

I did manage to get MsRockyRoad into the CL once. Totally not impressed. Her comments? It was full of stuffy old men, who did not dress well nor have cute butts. Has never asked to go there again. Now the QF F lounge she likes, especially the massage, so I do take her with me on very short trips to places that have good shopping. Ouch that hurts.

She does not know about JQ30 and JQ35, so that saves me a bit of money.

Obviously I was not there on the day!! ;)

I'm 41 and my PA is 26 so we would have lowered the average age of guests!!

What is your opinion of QF lounge coffee? For me the brown stuff that comes out of the self serve QF coffee machine tastes like it was brewed with dish water. Before VA and their miles ahead barista coffee, I would buy a cuppa on the way into the lounge. BTW I'm a short black, no sugar, coffee drinker as I like the taste of coffee.

A good cup of tea is better anyway :D

I have never tried the coffee in the lounge OR the plane. I have a maximum of 2 cups per day so they have to be right. I'm a "flat white" with 2 RAW sugars.

I usually sit somewhere quiet and whomever I am travelling with sorts my drinks! It is usually Scotch or Champagne!

AH I see you have never experienced the rich taste of a really good short black. Not bitter but smooth and delicious with lots of complexity and interest. Somewhat like a liqueur but no alcohol. As for Scotch and Champagne, ditto but what no good Barossa Shiraz? Nothing like it.

Well........ I could do either pre-flight!

I have never been asked for my QF card at Heathrow. I have been through there over 100 times and not so far.

A good 30-40% of the time the BA lounge staff will try to send you to the business class lounge if you are not in flying first.

"Off to the commons with you riff raff, this is the First lounge for First class passengers!"

"but, but I have a platinum card..."

"Platinum? What is this platinum thing you speak of?"

"Well for all intents and purposes it is the same as your Gold, even though the commodity is worth more"

<incredulous stare>

"You may pass just this once, but don't dare steal our magazines, they are for First class passengers."

Yes, i've had the same experience. What's going on there? They aren't fulfilling their obligations to one world. The one world site seems to make it clear that emerald have access to first class lounges.

I've had that experience in July, when I flew BA LHR-ATH in Y.

I was waiting in queue, well with two in front of me, to present my BP and OWE card and a roaming lounge dragon came up to me and asked if I was flying F ... I said no, and then motioned/suggested I go visit the J lounge. I told her I was a OWE and will use this F lounge. She STFU and ran off with her tail between her legs.

I actually like being asked to produce - then whipping it out like a ninja as I stride past smiling :D

The best one so far is being approached at the F check in at Sydney, where a staff member ever so quietly mentioned that we were standing in the First class section. Then before I could say anything - hearing my 5 year old daughter very politely tell the man she knew that already :p Priceless.
