Introducing Platinum One

..."You may pass just this once, but don't dare steal our magazines, they are for First class passengers."

Or drink our First Class BRITISH Gin .......... which I have NO problems with. At least in a AA F lounge you can get a good Aussie Shiraz. Try that in a BA lounge. Plenty of French Reds but not one good Barossa Shiraz. :(

...hearing my 5 year old daughter very politely tell the man she knew that already :p Priceless.

Kids today learn so quick and grow up even quicker. They seem to have the ability to absorb, piece together and use so much more information than we ever did. I sense that for them, the magic and wonder of the world we knew as children has never existed. Once they start accessing the internet, their growth rate and understanding of how the world really works is amazing and scary. Well at least to me.

Your daughters comment was, as you said, priceless. She knew who she was, why she was there, that she has every right to be there and the confidence to politely say so.

Can you quantify how you have knowledge that there were 50 Platinum members (I rarely bother taking note of others' status).

How do you know the only assistance provided was for First and CL Passengers?

How many is 'most of the 50 Platinum members' waiting in arrivals? Where were the rest of them, if no special arrangements had been made, and most were waiting in arrivals?

Sorry - I've read the above as a very subjective view that, in my mind, it doesn't paint a complete picture. I certainly wasn't there- and, from the above, the author was too busy being whisked off in chauffeured comfort to do a boarding pass inspection and a post-delay interview with most of the WP's, in order to accurately portray the situation.

The picture I have painted comes from what the staff told me. The First Host told me there were over 50 Platinum members on board. After some self identified Platinum members verbally abused her demanding assistance she felt the need to justify herself to us. The passengers waited in arrivals to be processed. I was alloted the last driver so I was around to see and hear what was going on. I went back in to collect my friend in economy to share my lift who told us no staff had come to process passengers after they passed through customs. The First Host confirmed this. First Host's have a list of passengers qualifying for the host service which includes First / CL / designated VIP passengers. So the First Host only collected us First passengers and the one CL not in F. Take that how you wish.

A good 30-40% of the time the BA lounge staff will try to send you to the business class lounge if you are not in flying first.

"Off to the commons with you riff raff, this is the First lounge for First class passengers!"

"but, but I have a platinum card..."

"Platinum? What is this platinum thing you speak of?"

"Well for all intents and purposes it is the same as your Gold, even though the commodity is worth more"

<incredulous stare>

"You may pass just this once, but don't dare steal our magazines, they are for First class passengers."

I have never had this experience flying J (BA or QF) or even PE on JL.

Does anyone know the number of P1's that will be on the books as of the go live date. Also what percentage is this of QF's total number of FF members....

Those kinds of numbers are hugely commercially sensitive.

Simon Hickey was only willing to say 'A very very small percent' of their WP's will be P1, and when we asked numbers, he re-iterated 'a very small percent'. Steph was the same.

We'd all love to know but QF will never tell us unfortunately.

I've tried both the QF & VA "barista" brewed coffee. Both of them are horrible.

They need to get Seven Seeds or Supreme to get in there and do some consulting.

I drink short blacks with NO sugar! QF machine short black is not, IMHO, drinkable but VA is acceptable. Would agree there are better short blacks.

Meh! I'm a long black drinker and both provide nice enough coffees - only happens morning flights, my main concern is why I'm not travelling on an evening flight! :p

Reminds me of the time I was down in Georgia (1st time in the us of a) & I ordered one of those with dessert. Got myself into ALL sorts of trouble. "Honey" she said, "I can just tell you're not from around here .."
There's another thread around at the moment that talks about a southern accent & miscommunication trouble.

AHHAAHAHAHAHAA .. that's outstanding. :D

Did anyone ask:

1) why did they create a sub-tier instead with P1 of a whole new tier? (was it so as not to disenfranchise WPs even more?)

2) could QFF be looking at introducing more benefits at beyond 3600 SCs? (a bit like BA)

3) will P1 offer anything when travelling on Oneworld partners? Presume will just be treated as a Oneworld Emerald.

4) Tully previously said "while Platinum One will be a very different proposition to the exclusive invitation-only Qantas Chairman's Lounge, some of the benefits might be aligned.” Any discussion on why no CL access?

5) any mention on benefits beyond Qantas and Epicure? e.g. hotel premium level membership...

cheers

General consensus is that there are a good many CL members who hardly travel or don't travel with QF anyway - If there are so few WP1 why don't they chuck in CL membership or at least access?

It would be the only benefit that would actively encourage me to move from WP to WP1. Other than that I don't see what all the fuss is about.

Maybe doing that would upset the CLs. They just might see their benefits / differential being "Enhanced". Plus a really determined SC runner, who may not fit the expected CL mold, could make WP1 and then get CL access. Gotta keep the riff raff out of the CL. :p

You mean, keep the riff raff in the CL..

I understand P1 to be everything CL gets minus the lounge and sexy bag tags.
