Is QF ever likely to fly into Dubai again?

Yeah, we are looking at J to FRA in Nov and the QF price is about $1k more. Just under $10k return with QF.
Which dates in Nov? Little more discrepancy here at $70 for exact same flights.

Booking is a different matter as when I try on QF's site, they don't have show I availability on the way back. Expedia prices out QF fare to this correctly (in USD) though, so maybe competent TA could also.

How does the QF/EK partnership/JV even work? I know there are different codeshare models. Some you do see the marketing carrier buy seats - right down to specific sections of the cabin in some instances, whilst others seems to draw seats from the same pool and revenue share. And anything in between.
IIRC it is a free sale codeshare, as are most QF codeshares.
The two block space codeshares are/were LA and OZ.

Is that screen grab from Expedia or another site? It looks very well laid out compared to some airfare booking sites!

Unfortunately not a lot flexibility for that holiday due to work commitments.
I have got a stack of other options I’m looking at so I might just stick with my usual AU-SEA-ME-EU two stop policy.
Im not on the QF hamster wheel any longer so not too fussed about booking EK rather than the codeshare if we agree to go with that option

So true.

A mate of mine worked at QR as a senior VP for a number of years....

oh the stories!

PS: there are many entires on Al Baker's list starting with "Airbus" and possibly ending with "QANTAS" but it's variable :D

yes, it's good to see the actual booking classes which makes comparision much easier.

ie: EK O class appears analogous to QF I class so it makes sense the fare difference is minimal (in the scope of a $8k fare).

EK Business Class fares appear to be JCIO, QF JCDI, so they match up (EK appears to use D as J award bucket).

See if the EK fare was in say "H" class - which is one of the unbundled "Business Special" fares, then I'd have a red flag potentially because it would be a different comparision.. but in this case it's pretty much apples v apples.

He may eventually regret throwing Airbus under the bus and leaving himself married to Boeing...
QR head office doesn't strike me as being a great place to work!

I certainly like the way that it presents the information - any idea which website it is?

Looks like Matrix to me.

Google ITA Matrix (and enjoy a website designed for user functionality rather than ads and sales tactics - although I’m sure Google has worked out a way to monetise it since they took over)

Cheers - just took a look and it does look like it is a lot more user friendly than anything else I have seen!

Yeah it's very powerful. I've been using it for a few months and still figuring out better ways to spec searches to get the exact results I want - though it's a lot of trial and error.

OT but what’s the consensus on Old ITA v new UI? I still use the old - it allows more “nearby” options on searches. Google flights is only something 5 or 6!

Generally, I've seen people here and on FT prefer the old GUI, as do I, though everyone is worried it is going to disappear at some point. I haven't used the new one much but AFAIK it has the same functionality.

I was initially horrified by the new version until I realised that most of the advanced search functions are still there but I‘ve found some limitations on the new version - as mentioned above. I’m sticking to the old (bookmarked) but it seems to be slower and more temperamental than before… 😔

The old UI will go away eventually as the framework that it was built on is no longer supported and end of life. Such is the way of technology.

At least QF was going to/from LHR and needed to stop somewhere - were they getting cheap fuel? Could they have, should they have added back FRA etc via DXB using 787s?

I reckon QF will return to DXB before VA goes to AUH or DOH…😉
In my (slightly foaming) opinion, I would have thought if QF was going back to Germany via DXB, BER would be the preferred option for both QF and EK. There would be an actual answer to “why not just let EK serve the route?” question due to EK’s lack of landing rights at BER (they are limited to four cities and are already serving FRA, MUC, HAM and DUS).
