Monday 9 December sees
JQ512 MEL-SYD (A320 VH-VFL) with revised arrival at 15 32, 77 min tardy.
JQ476 MEL-NTL (A320 VH-JQX) had a lengthier delay, with arrival at 21 05, 190 min behind.

A shocking run for JQ43 over the last week. Not a single on time departure, with the shortest delay 100 mins on Dec 11, and consecutive delays of 10 hrs and 9 hrs on Dec 8 and 9. I flew out on 43 on time on Dec 3 and feel blessed!

Nine Group newspapers are reporting that JQ has cancelled 10 per cent of its January 2020 flights, that the cost of pilot strikes in Dec and Jan will be '$20 to 25 million' and that it is 'considering' selling three of its 11 B788s operating on marginal international routes.

Surely the lower frequency routes such as MEL to CGO must be prime candidates for any rationalisation.

It is hard to know if some of these statements by JQ CEO Gareth Evans are ambit claims in the context of an industrial dispute.

It is unclear if the cancellations will be permanent and which domestic routes are hit.

Is the 'orange cancer' in remission?

Sunday 29th of December sees JQ11 OOL-NRT (B788 VH-VKB) with a suggested arrival at 22 27, 237 min behind.
JQ753 BNE-LST has a revised departure at 17 15, 215 min tardy.
JQ796 MEL-MCY (A320 VH-VFV) is expeced at 17 22, 72 min late.
JQ739 MEL-LST (A320 VH-JQG) had a late arrival at 17 01, 91 behind schedule.

The MEL-DPS-MEL flights have had a really bad run lately... around 3.5 hours delay on most days since 26 December (JQ35/36).

Given the delay is almost exactly the same each time I wonder if this is a deliberate reschedule due to fleet shortages elsewhere?

JQ's 787 operated flights have always struggled in terms of reliability, with plenty of delays and cancellations.
An example of this is today's JQ63 MEL-SGN which has a revised departure at 22 25, 250 min late.
JQ43 MEL-DPS (B788 VH-VKE) had a late arrival at 15 53, 178 min behind schedule.

Wednesday 1 January 2020 sees JQ403 OOL-SYD (A320 VH-VQA) with a revised arrival at 11 49, 124 min tardy.
JQ508 MEL-SYD (A321 VH-VWX) is suggested to arrive at 12 47, 52 min late.
JQ49 MEL-OOL (B788 VH-VKL) was airborne at 9 16, so arrived at 9 59, 114 min behind schedule.
JQ43 MEL-DPS is once delayed. It was estimated to depart at 11 55, but has not taxied yet.
JQ18 HKT-MEL (B788 VH-VKD) has a predicted arrival at 13 19, 179 tardy.
JQ941 CNS-MEL (A320 VH-VQQ) has a suggested arrival at 14 38, 238 min late.

Once again on Friday 3 January, Jetstar's B787 are running behind.
JQ36 DPS-MEL (B788 VH-VKG) was airborne at 3 05, with arrival now suggested at 11 09, 199 min late.
JQ18 HKT-MEL (B788 VH-VKA) is estimated to arrive at 12 23, 123 min behind schedule.

JQ36 DPS-MEL (B788 VH-VKG) was airborne at 3 05, with arrival now suggested at 11 09, 199 min late.

6 out of the last 9 days this has been the new departure/arrival time for the JQ35/36 :( These aren't 'delays' anymore - they are changes to the schedule: Jetstar (JQ) #36 ✈ FlightAware

I suspect the days the flight was running'on time' are the days the 787 isn't needed for some other flight like BKK.

Thursday 9 January finds JQ44 DPS-MEL (B788 VH-VKF) with delayed arrival at 22 51, 101 min tardy.
This later formed as JQ35 MEL-DPS, the originally scheduled 18 55 hours service was airborne at 00 57 and arrived at 3 03, 318 min behind. This then converted the red-eye JQ36 DPS-MEL a terrible one, as this one was airborne at 4 33, arriving at 12 40, 290 min tardy.

A321 VH-VWQ is forming the scherduled Friday 10 January 1535 hours mid afternoon JQ940 from MEL up to CNS that was in the sky at 1629. Hence, likely arrival is 1832 hours early this evening, 37 late.

The punctuality of Jetstar's 787 fleet declines by the second. An example is today 12 January, JQ64 SGN-MEL (B788 VH-VKF) had a revised arrival at 12 06, 56 min tardy.
JQ15 CNS-KIX (B788 VH-VKD) is suggested to arrive at 20 27, 62 min behind.
JQ43 MEL-DPS (B788 VH-VKE) was airborne at 12 19, so it arrived at 14 40, 105 min late.
JQ17 MEL-HKT, the 15 20 hours service is scheduled at 23 40, that's 500 min behind schedule.
JQ1 MEL-HNL has a revised departure at 18 00, 85 min tardy.

These are exactly the reasons why we need an EU261 compensation scheme! If they were forced to pay $1000 per passenger delayed, we might find on-time performance improves.

I also feel sorry for some of the cabin crew - especially those that allegedly have to work Australia to Bali and back in one shift.

Not JQi's fault this time, but due to Taal Volcano (about 80km south of Manila, Philippines) erupting and spewing ash into the capital and elsewhere, flights are avoiding the area. Hence on Monday 13 January 2020, JQ25 (B788 VH-VKD), the 1215 hours CNS upon to NRT that took off more or less on time at 1236 hours is expected to arrive 70 minutes late at 1955 hours.

Bushfire smoke haze was noticeable at MEL when I was there earlier on Wednesday 15 January: clearly the airport and surrounds such as Broadmeadows are worse affected than the inner and outer southern suburbs, but by about 1115 the situation had worsened, so MEL closed one runway, the east-west I gather.

Cancellations include JQ526, the 1400 hours MEL - SYD.

Expect more flights to get the flick while delays for those that operate will affect many other aircraft even if they've not been today in MEL, due to connecting passengers and crew rosters, plus tardy MEL flights into and out of other airports, missing slots where these exist.

JQ574, the 1325 hours MEL up to sunny BNE is predicted to push back 45 minutes tardy.

#3 son on JQ714 {HBA-MEL sched 1505/1625) tonight dep HBA 50min late, went round in circles over Bass Strait and is cuirrently back in HBA refuelling and waiting for weather and a slot at MEL. Pilot has told pax there's currently one hour's worth of planes over MEL .

Continuing with unstable weather in MEL - earlier and perhaps now smoke haze, and latterly thunderstorms - JQ832, the 1625 hours MEL - PPP on Wednesday 15 January 2020 was still queuing as at 1900 hours for ATC clearance for takeoff.
