Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

whiteshark, that would be annoying as depending upon connection times it would add a minimum of two and a half hours to the trip.

JQ223 from SYD to ZQN on Sunday 6 March, the 0940 hours, departed at 1027. Arrival is expected to be 50 minutes behind time at 1525. There has been quite some late running on JQ Oz to ZQN and return flights in recent days.

The 1125 hours JQ709 (MEL - HBA) is forecast to leave the gate at 1215 for a similarly 50 minute late (1330 hours) arrival. Later in the day the 1500 hours JQ564 (MEL - BNE) is also expected to depart 50 minutes behind time.

UPDATE: JQ661, the 1305 hours AYQ to SYD took off at 1425 and should arrive at about 1850, 70 minutes behind time.

JQ17, the medium haul 1530 hours timetabled departure ex MEL to HKT took off at 1504. This means arrival at roughly 2150 tonight, 90 minutes late. B788 VH-VKH is the craft.

UPDATE: JQ820, the 1840 hours early evening SYD - BNE departed at 1921. It arrived at 1956, 46 minutes late. The return flight, JQ827, is expected to depart from BNE at 2025, 45 late and arrive SYD at 2300 hours, also 45 late. In previous similar situations the southbound may have made up a bit of enroute time and so avoided being right 'on the knocker' of the dreaded SYD curfew.

Monday 7 March sees JQ745 (0710 SYD to LST) delayed until 0805 in departing but it is now later than that.

JQ464, the 1045 MEL to increasingly popular BNK is expected to depart half an hour late while JQ510, the 1040 MEL north to SYD will suffer a predicted 40 minute departure delay.

JQ432, the 1000 MEL to OOL took off at 1051 and should arrive about 45 minutes late at 1150 (A321 VH-VWU.)

The 1245 SYD - MEL, JQ513 is forecast to leave at 1315 hours.

JQ767 (1325 hours ADL across to SYD) took off at 1420 and should arrive 44 minutes late at 1634. Aircraft is A320 VH-VGP.

JQ519, the 1620 hours SYD to MEL is expected to depart at 1710, 50 minutes late, as it is being formed by the delayed JQ767.

QF409 (0700 SYD to MEL) and QF1471 (0955 hours SYD to CBR) are cancelled on Tuesday 8 March.

So are the identically timed QF7940 and QF2110, the 1000 flights from SYD to CFS but at the same time, QF2112 is running. Is this a programming error or is a special event going on in Coffs Harbour?

The Tuesday 8 March JQ440 (1555 MEL to OOL) did not take off until 1800 hours this evening. This is delaying JQ421, the 1745 OOL - SYD until at least 1930 hours in its departure.

The Wednesday 9 March JQ500, the 0620 hours MEL to SYD did not take off until 0742. VH-VGP (A320) is therefore about an hour late with likely arrival around 0845.

A late departure of this magnitude for the first flight of the day ensures late running of other flights operated by this aircraft for at least a few hours given the usually fairly tight allowances in between flights while on the ground.

JQ510, 1040 MEL to SYD was not airborne until 1126, arriving at 1247, 42 minutes late.

JQ1, the 1700 hours MEL to HNL took off very late at 1845 on 9 March and should arrive same day at about 0745, an hour and 40 minutes late. JQ2 back overnight will be at least slightly delayed as it is due to depart at 0845 hours. Aircraft is B788 VH-VKI.

The ADL to SYD eastbound JQ769 (A320 VH-VQP), due ex the City of Wine at 1815 was airborne at 1911 and hence should arrive at about 2117, 37 minutes late.

On Thursday 10 March, JQ774 (0840 hours MEL to ADL, A320 VH-JQL) took off at 0938 and is about 40 minutes late with likely arrival at about 1010.

I was on JQ507 the SYD-MEL flight that JQ500 becomes. The down-gauging from A321 to A320 was not pleasant as I lost 12A. The joys when the travel policy includes BFOD and Jetstar.

JQ792, the 0800 MEL to MCY, took off at 1109 almost three hours late on Thursday 10 March.

The 1045 TSV - BNE, JQ103 (A320 VH-VGI) was in the air at 1159 and is soon to arrive at 1338 or so, 63 minutes late.

The 1150 hours OOL - MEL, JQ437 (A321 VH-VWZ) took off at 1313 this afternoon and as a result will arrive in the southern capital at 1625, 75 minutes late.

The 1250 hours JQ512 (MEL to SYD) was airborne at 1344 and in the form of A320 VH-VFO should arrive at about 1455 hours, 40 late. In the other direction JQ513 (1245 hours SYD - MEL) took off at 1336 and should arrive at 1455, 35 late. Aircraft is A321 VH-VWW. JQ has enormous difficulty keeping to time or anything close to it between MEL and SYD, yet the other three airlines typically perform better on this most important sector, one of the most lucrative air routes in the world given our unfortunate lack of high speed rail connecting the two most important Australian cities in comfort and convenience.

JQ465 (1250 hours BNK to MEL) took off at 1359 and with A320 VH-VGP operating it should arrive at about 1555, 55 minutes behind time.

The 1645 hours HBA - MEL (JQ710, A321 VH-UWX) took off at 1722 and should arrive at 1854 or swo, 49 minutes behind time.

JQ975, the 1600 hours from MEL to PER has been cancelled. During the school holidays it and the 0640 to PER ex MEL were regular cancellations.

JQ740, the 1730 LST - MEL (A320 VH-JQX) is about 44 minutes late and should arrive at about 1919 hours this early evening. It was in a fairly short duration holding pattern in the middle of Bass Strait as there is a fair bit of 'traffic' approaching MEL this evening, probably not helped by the inclement weather experienced all day, although it has been far more drizzle than a Queensland or southeast Asia (or Emirates!) style flood.

The 1430 hours JQ947 from CNS to MEL took off at 1514 this afternoon and after experiencing being placed in a lengthy holding pattern between Heathcote and bendigo should arrive about 53 minutes late at 1943. Aircraft is A320 VH-VQG.

Capping off another unimpressive day for JQ on the SYD - MEL route, by far Australia's busiest, JQ524 (A321 VH-VWT), the 2045 hours MEL - SYD took off at 2147 and is about to arrive in SYD at about 2254, 44 minutes late and not long before imposition of the 2300 hours curfew.

Southbound, JQ529 is about 45 minutes late and likely to arrive MEL at 0005 on Friday 11 March. A320 VH-VGO is the aircraft.

On Friday 11 March another poor start to a day of SYD - MEL flights for JQ with JQ503, the 0700 SYD down to MEL delayed in departing 0824. Projected arrival is 0959, 84 minutes late.

JQ507, the 0825 hours flight on the same route is expected to depart at 0911.

Northbound (MEL - SYD), JQ504, the 0825 is expected to depart at 0915. JQ705 from MEL down to HBA is delayed departing from 0830 to a forecast 0900 while JQ774 from MEL to ADL should be off blocks at 0915 in lieu of 0840 hours.

JQ506 (0915 MEL - SYD) is delayed until 1015 in leaving, while colleague JQ510, the 1040 departure should leave at 1115. JQ664 for the longer MEL - AYQ trip is forecast to depart 25 minutes late at 1005.

JQ464, the 1015 MEL to BNK, a low priority route that appears to have much late running is delayed from 1015 to an expected 1100 in departing.

Later this morning JQ721, the 1025 SYD to HBA is forecast to depart 45 minutes late at 1110. JQ513 is suggested as departing at 1310 for MEL ex SYD instead of 1245, while JQ764 (SYD - ADL) is likely to leave 35 minutes late at 1330 hours.

JQ474, the 1205 early afternoon MEL to NTL is expected to depart half an hour late.

JQ561, the 0710 BNE down to MEL is expected to depart at 0744. The 0750 ADL across to MEL, JQ773, did not take off until 0913. It should be in MEL at about 1055, 75 minutes late. A320 VH-VGU is operating this flight.

UPDATE: The expected delay to JQ721 has increased from 45 minutes to four hours and 25 minutes, with a 1450 revised expected departure. Strangely QF expects the flight to lose even more time in running down to HBA, with arrival suggested as 1725, five hours and five minutes late.

The forecast delay to JQ713 (the 1245 SYD - MEL) has risen from 25 minutes to an hour late upon departure. It is these sorts of changes that give those travellers who have tight appointments or other things arranged worry and stress, because one has to revisit texting or otherwise contacting other parties.

The earlier suggested departure of JQ464 (MEL - BNK) at 1100 (45 minutes late) became two hours 38 minutes late at 1253.

JQ574, the 1320 hours MEL to BNE is expected to depart at 1400.

On Friday 11 March, JQ513 had been forecast by JQ to depart from SYD for MEL at 1310 - 25 minutes late. Instead it took off at 1421 - significantly later even allowing for 20 minutes taxiing - and so will arrive at 1545, 85 minutes late. Aircraft is VH-VWY, an A321.

Once again this shows not just JQ's poor punctuality between Sydney and Melbourne but also how delays can compound during the day, although it depends a fair bit on an individual aircraft's roster, how long the turnarounds are and whether there is any built in additional time to the schedules (assuming normal benign weather conditions, and no unseemly ATC delays at either end.)

A sad story indeed. One wonders what JQ's management are trying to do about it, or if they even care... There doesn't seem to be any sign of improvement. Quite the reverse.

clifford, I share your perception that JQ's punctuality between Melbourne and Sydney has declined and is steadily getting worse. While doubtless some aircraft are corralled on that route, it must at times negatively affect other routes because the airline will be faced with unexpected demands for a greater number of aircraft terminal gates than are available, or staff such as baggage handlers are less busy than the timetable indicated for 30 minutes then due to some late running a number of flights terminate in quick succession...those sometimes unseen logistical matters that you and I are not privy to.

The Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics statistics have a lag of a couple of months but it will be interesting around late May to compare March 2016 with say March 2015, taking due account of Easter and Holy Week being in March this year.

Apart from suggested JQ crew shortages to which a couple of probably well informed AFFers have alluded, the only thing that has changed is how JQ switched its operations to the new T4 in Melbourne, a terminal that has attracted a lot of criticism. Both the old and new JQ MEL terminals had what seems to a layman to be operational restrictions: the old one was cynically referred to by some JQ wits as 'the alleyway.'

JQ770 on 11 March, the 2000 SYD to ADL was airborne much later than should be the case (2117) with arrival about to occur at 2230, 55 minutes late. VH-VFY is the A320.

JQ508, the 0945 hours MEL to SYD should depart at 1130. JQ511, the 1200 high noon SYD to MEL on Saturday 12 March is not expected to depart until 1325, a delay almost equal to the scheduled sector time.

The 0635 MEL to LST, JQ731 was cancelled.

JQ520, the early morning 0620 hours MEL to SYD and JQ772, 0630 MEL - ADL were both cancelled.

JQ784, the Sunday 13 March SYD to OOL departed at 1021, 51 minutes late. Arrival is predicted as 51 minutes down at 1056.

JQ812 (0950 hours SYD north to BNE) departed at 1027, with arrival forecast also to be 37 minutes late at 1057.

The 1015 scheduled JQ464 from MEL to BNK is delayed until an expected departure of 1115. This flight is often late: perhaps it has almost 100 per cent leisure travellers so JQ accords it a low priority if there is a choice between which two flights get delayed more.

JQ510, the 1040 MEL to SYD should depart at 1120. In consequence JQ513 (1245 SYD to MEL) should depart at an amended time of 1315 early this afternoon.

Awesome Andy, fair point for weekends, but there have been weekday late departures of JQ464 also - on Friday 11 March, it was not airborne until 1306 hours.

On weekdays, I have seen a few business types boarding or alighting from JQ flights. Some may be small businessmen looking to supposedly save money; others may be forced to travel on JQ due to a company BFOD policy.

Sunday 13 March's JQ43, the 0955 hours MEL to DPS did not take off until 1233. Arrival should be two hours and 10 minutes late at 1505; plane is B788 VH-VKG.

The SYD - ADL JQ766 mid afternoon is about 32 minutes late and should arrive at roughly 1552 with A320 VH-VFP the aircraft.

UPDATE: As JQ43 on 13 March was late, so is JQ44 ex DPS, now expected into MEL on Monday 14 March at 0035 instead of 2255 on Sunday night. Effectively it has picked up half an hour since arriving in DPS earlier on Sunday.

JQ216 (2030 hours AKL - MEL) was airborne at 2116 and should arrive at 2310, 35 minutes late with A320 VH-VFQ the craft.

On Monday 14 March, JQ506, the 0915 MEL - SYD has been delayed in departing until 1000.

JQ515 (1340 hours SYD to MEL) will instead depart at a projected 1540, a delay more than the gate-to-gate total flight time.

UPDATE: JQ778, the 1825 MEL - ADL is expected to depart at 1900 hours while JQ713 from MEL down to HBA is forecast to push back from the departure gate 40 minutes late at 1935. JQ715 (1945 MEL - HBA) should depart at 2015 tonight.

JQ515, the 1340 hours SYD - MEL has now been delayed far longer, to a projected 2030 departure this evening, or almost seven hours late. Quicker to travel on the XPT (NSWTrainLink) train that goes from city centre to city centre. JQ"s unpunctuality between Sydney and Melbourne is suboptimal to put it mildly.

The 1620 hours SYD - MEL, JQ519, departed at 1708. Arrival is suggested as 1829, 34 late.

The 2050 hours HBA - MEL, JQ714 (A321 VH-VWT) was airborne at 2136 this evening and should arrive at about 2246, 36 minutes late.

JQ739, the Tuesday 15 March 1640 hours MEL to LST was not airborne until 1739.

JQ478, the 2000 hours evening MEL to NTL (which QF now calls 'Port Stephens') is expected to leave half an hour late at 2030.
