Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

On Tuesday 29 March, JQ564, the 1435 hours MEL north to BNE did not take off until 1536 while later, the MEL - CNS JQ948 normally pushing back at 1900 hours should be airborne at about 1935.

JQ1, the flagship flight at 1700 hours from MEL to HNL took off at 1820 and should arrive at about 0715 same day, an hour late with VH-VKJ, a B788 undertaking the honours. JQ2 back from HNL to MEL will push back late.

The 1715 hours MEL to TSV (JQ916 - A320 VH-VFD) was airborne at 1746 and is about 35 minutes late with arrival likely at about 1950 tonight.

JQ32, the 1900 hours from SYD to Thailand's HKT is about 35 minutes late with arrival in the shape of B788 VH-VKG likely at 0055 on Wednesday 30 March's morning.

Wednesday 30 March saw flagship JQ1 ex MEL again delayed. It departed 44 minutes late at 1824 hours with arrival expected at 0740 same day, 55 minutes late.

Earlier, JQ27, the 1525 mid afternoon SYD to HKT in Thailand was far more badly delayed with the flight not pushing back until 1846 for a two hour 55 minute late arrival at 2340 ('small hours' if expressed in AEDT or AEST.)

JQ566 (1815 MEL - BNE) departed 40 minutes late at 1855 hours while JQ442, the 1940 MEL to OOL is not expected to depart until 2020 hours this evening, 50 minutes late. JQ528, the 2045 hours MEL - SYD should leave at 2115.

Southbound, JQ609 (1825 hours from SYD to AVV) departed at 1911 (46 minutes late) with arrival predicted as 2046 hours, the same 46 minutes late. JQ523 from SYD to the much busier MEL departed 41 late at 1911 hours with arrival suggested as also at 2046, also 41 late. The chances of two flights to two different Victorian airfields exactly maintaining the schedule would be remote: Tattslotto odds?

JQ438, the 1505 hours mid afternoon MEL to OOL on Thursday 31 March has been showing as delayed in departing until 1630 but as I write it is almost 20 minutes past that time.

Slightly earlier, JQ410 (1440 hours SYD to OOL) pushed back at 1530, arriving 56 minutes late at 1556 so it lost time enroute which does not always happen.

The 1630 hours JQ213 (MEL - AKL) should instead depart at 1710 hours.

Yes, they're still awful aren't they.

When I saw QF were selling SYD-BKK R/T for $599 this morning I jumped on it. Now I have a couple of JQ tickets which I don't know what to do with. But I feel much better...

The Friday 1 April 2016 'tag flight' sector of JQ11 from MEL to OOL is forecast to see departure at 0900 rather than 0825 for a 1005 not the scheduled 0930 arrival in the haven of fun. This will mean that the next leg to NRT departs late as it is timetabled to leave the Gold Coast at 1045.

JQ30 that was airborne from BKK at 2254 on Thursday 31 March despite a departure time of 2140 hours should arrive in MEL on Friday 1 April at 1135 approximately, 65 minutes late with the aircraft VH-VKF, a B788. In turn this will delay JQ7, the 1215 'just after high noon at the OK corral' from MEL to SIN. A guess might be a departure at 1235.

JQ764, the 1000 SYD - ADL was cancelled on Saturday 2 April 2016, as will be JQ824, 1055 SYD north to BNE. JQ825 southbound from BNE to SYD (the 1155 hours departure) is also not running.

Earlier, the 0915 MEL to SYD, JQ506 did not operate.

JQ43 from MEL to DPS should depart at 1100 rather than 1015. This flight has not had a good innings recently.

On Tuesday 5 April JQ1 from MEL to HNL, the 1610 hours, took off at around 1900 hours. JQ2 returning will be late.

While the ongoing, welcome rain on Wednesday 6 April after a dry spell in Melbourne is nothing like the 92 millimetres that Sydney's Observatory Hill recorded in one 24 hour period within the last week, it appears to be causing a few issues in MEL.

The 0915 hours JQ506 from MEL to SYD has been delayed for at least an hour in departing. There are other indicated delays of less than half an hour but often these turn into greater than that.

UPDATE: For the second consecutive day JQ1 (1600 hours MEL to HNL) is again delayed with it expected to be in the air at about 1940 this evening. Inevitably JQ2 will be delayed.

The 0710 hours SYD to LST, JQ745 on Thursday 7 April did not depart until 0807 with arrival expected at 1010 rather than 0900.

JQ212, the 0940 hours MEL arrival ex AKL has been cancelled.

JQ786 (1135 SYD - MCY) should depart an hour late while JQ203, the 1145 SYD 'across the ditch' to AKL is forecast to depart instead at 1240 this afternoon.

My friend got a text last night - was supposed to be flying to Bali today from MEL. Was advised the new departure time will now be 1600 from the scheduled 0915.

Not sure if they have been offered any compensation.

International flight 'tag sector' MEL to OOL, JQ11, on Friday 8 April departed 31 minutes late at 0756 with arrival expected at 1005, 35 minutes tardy. As the onward leg to NRT is timetabled to depart from the Gold Coast at 1045, it will be delayed until about 1110.

MEL_Traveller, if you could ask your friend for an update re any (or no) compensation that would be very helpful for other AFF members and guests searching for flights. While some of us may scratch our heads as to why anyone would want to use JQ, it caters for a section of the 'market.'

ironicaly my friend took a price beat guarantee from a tiger sale to Bali :)

With JQ tending to have a worse punctuality record than TT - although TT's DPS flights have not been operating sufficiently long for a considered assessment on that route - perhaps not the best choice by your friend. Hindsight is wonderful though.

Also on Friday 8 April, the 1025 JQ735 from MEL to LST has been revised to depart at 1105. JQ201 from SYD to AKL should push back at 1040 in lieu of its timetabled 0955 hours.

UPDATE: JQ3 from SYD departed at 1844 this evening rather than the timetabled 1625 hours for HNL, where same day arrival is estimated at 0755, an hour and 55 minutes late. JQ2 will be delayed.

Update. The Bali flight exMEL was delayed another two hours, scheduled to depart at 5pm, then changed to 6pm (although they seemed to be boarding about 620pm according to the last text I got).

Essentially JQ seemed to be treating this as a '2 hour airport delay'. All passengers that asked (there was a gate change and many passengers didn't know so were waiting at the old gate) were given a $15 voucher to use for food and beverages.

Not bad if you ignore the 7 hour delay (although probably fair that many passengers also got to stay in bed a little longer this morning)

MEL_Traveller, given the price of food and beverages at almost all Australian airports, A$15 would not get one much more than a Hungry Jacks large size meal.

JQ43 ended up departing at 1850 hours with DPS arrival predicted as 2245 rather than 1315. At least passengers will be at their resort by 0100 if the wait for taxis is not too lengthy.

Returning to MEL, JQ44 ex DPS is suggested as pushing back at midnight instead of 1445 - nine hours and 15 minutes late - for MEL Saturday 9 April arrival at 0725 hours rather than 2210 this evening.

The arrival gate in MEL at this stage looks to be next used by JQ7, the 1115 MEL - SIN (Saturday 9) so if it is the same aircraft, there should not (in theory) be a delay to the SIN-bound flight.

On Saturday 9 April, JQ784, the 0930 hours SYD to MCY is expected to depart at 1045, with arrival 90 minutes late at 1235. The loss of time from gate to gate may be indicative of the busy time that 1000 to 1100 is almost every day at SYD with quite a few international departures adding to the mix. The returning JQ785 is publicly displayed as departing at 1250 for a 1445 arrival in SYD, but a 1230 MCY arrival does not equate to a departure only 20 minutes later: turnaround times tend to be at least 30 minutes.

At this stage, this aircraft is forming the 1345 hours from SYD to MEL that is showing a claimed revised time of 1510 hours in its departure. As always, JQ may decide to swap aircraft around but hopefully the company does not disclose a delay until they are pretty certain it will occur, as it would not be optimal to have passengers wandering around and their baggage having to be offloaded, taking time, were they not present for what subsequently became a shorter than anticipated delay.

Probably as a result, JQ570, the 1620 hours MEL to BNE has been cancelled as has JQ938, the 1925 hours BNE up to CNS.

Therefore a 75 minute initial delay to one flight affects two others with delays and two more with cancellations.

As always, one wonders how JQ carries those booked passengers on other QF or JQ flights, and whether this occurs on the same day (which is NOT a condition of carriage when we purchase tickets: the airline, like many, does not guarantee 'same day uplift') or whether some passengers are forced to overnight either in their own homes or for out of towners in a JQ-supplied hotel.

While few AFF viewers seem to fly JQ, updated information as to how the airline treats passengers in such circumstances would be most welcome.

On Sunday 10 April, JQ763 (0910 hours ADL - SYD, A320 VH-VGD) and is about to arrive 35 minutes late at about 1205.

The 0910 hours JQ457 from increasingly popular BNK (with its proximity to 'Byron') to SYD was airborne at 1135 and hence will arrive at about 1255 in lieu of its timetabled 1035. VH-VFT is the A320 workhorse.

JQ11 (B788 VH-VKL) from OOL for the medium haul to NRT is timetabled to depart the Gold Coast at 1045 but since takeoff was not until 1154, arrival is forecast to be delayed about an hour until 1955 tonight.

JQ793 (1100 MCY - MEL) took off at 1206 and should arrive at about 1425 hours, 55 minutes late. Aircraft is A320 VH-VQK.

The 1115 MEL - SIN (JQ7 - B788 VH-VKF) took off at 1151 and should arrive at about 1720, half an hour late.

JQ512 (1250 hours early afternoon MEL - SYD) has got the flick as later in the day has JQ778, the 1730 hours MEL across to ADL.

JQ223, the Monday 11 April 0940 hours SYD to mountainous ZQN is delayed until an expected 1130 in its departure.

JQ502 (0735 hours MEL to SYD) was cancelled as will be JQ562, the 1045 MEL north to BNE. Back to MEL ex BNE, JQ565, the 1345 hours departure is also not operating.

The MEL - DPS 0915 hours scheduled departure, JQ43 - not a flight with a good punctuality record - should instead push back at 0945.

UPDATE: JQ223 did not depart until 1210 from SYD for ZQN, arriving at 1651, two hours and 11 minutes tardy.

On Wednesday 13 April, the afternoon flight from DPS to MEL (JQ44) is again delayed, this time overnight to an expected arrival on Thursday 14 of 1120.

The Wednesday JQ43 looks like it has been delayed from 0915 in its departure to 2215 hours tonight, a time that as I type has already passed.

JQ412, the Thursday 14 April 1205 hours from SYD to OOL has been cancelled while the 1210 hours SYD down to MEL, JQ511, is instead expected to depart 65 minutes late at 1315.

Earlier, JQ774 from MEL to ADL departed significantly late at 1047 instead of the timetabled 0830 hours, and is expected to arrive in 'Wine City' at 1138 rather than 0920 hours.

On the ADL to SYD route, there are at least three bad delays. JQ763, the 0910 departure is shown as departing ADL at 1050; JQ765, the 0955 hours departure will instead depart at an expected 1055 while the longest delay will be suffered by passengers on the 1220 ADL to SYD, JQ767, which is expected to depart five hours late at 1720 late this afternoon for a predicted 1940 hours evening arrival rather than 1440 mid afternoon alighting.
