Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

Once again, there are problems on the MEL - DPS route, this time on Thursday 14 April with JQ35, the 1745 hours departure, cancelled. Naturally so is JQ36, the Friday 15 April 0640 hours redeye arrival in MEL ex DPS.

JQ2 from HNL to MEL, the 1510 hours mid afternoon timetabled is instead expected to be at the arrival gate for tired passengers to traipse through the airport at 1955 hours tonight, almost five hours behind schedule.

JQ11 on Friday 15 April, the 0725 MEL to OOL (B788 VH-VKH) was airborne at about 0827 and hence will be about 45 minutes late arriving at 1015. This will delay its scheduled 1045 hours onward leg to NRT.

JQ17, the mid afternoon 1450 hours MEL to HKT in Thailand is delayed until an expected 2325 hours late tonight in departing. I assume this is because JQ2 from HNL is arriving at a suggested 2240 hours tonight instead of 1510 hours.

This means a likely 0540 hours Saturday 16 April arrival in coughet instead of Friday night mid evening at 2045. Many passengers would have at least A$100 excesses on their travel insurance policies and might be unable to claim for that if cancelling an hotel room at the last minute.

JQ216 into MEL on Friday 15 April ex AKL will arrive at a suggested 0003 on Saturday 16 instead of 2235 on Friday late night.

On Saturday 16 April JQ772, the 1010 MEL - ADL is forecast to depart at 1110 (QF website) or take off at 1045 (Melbourne Airport website - take your pick, although the QF one is likely to be more up to date.)

JQ219 (1020 MEL - ZQN) is expected to depart 80 minutes behind time at 1140.

JQ814, the 0950 hours SYD to BNE on Sunday morning 17 April departed at 1043 with arrival forecast for 1205, 45 minutes behind time.

JQ205 (1625 TransTasman SYD - AKL) is not expected to depart until 1845 meaning arrival at 2350 rather than 2130 hours.

On Monday 18 April, JQ400 from SYD to OOL will have a bad start to the morning with departure expected to occur at 0810 rather than 0610. This may be indicative of JQ being an aircraft down but there is nothing to indicate that another flight has been cancelled to compensate. Pilot shortage perhaps?

JQ43 from MEL to DPS - a flight with all too frequent delays or cancellations - is on Monday 18 April delayed in its departure from 0915 to 1025 with expected arrival also 70 minutes late at 1425. In turn this will delay the returning JQ44 this afternoon ex Bali.

Earlier, JQ501, the first of the morning's flights down to MEL ex SYD at a scheduled departure of 0605 hours was cancelled. Anyone who relies on JQ between MEL and SYD should have in their carry on a seven kilogram container of 'patience.'

The 1000 SYD north to BNE, JQ814, is delayed until a predicted 1045 in its departure.

The 1145 SYD to AKL is cancelled while the 1150 BNE to NTL, JQ483 is predicted to push back at 1240 hours. Given the extent of flooding and damage to the ceiling in the check in area at Newcastle Airport from yesterday's sudden storm, it is a good effort to have flights again operating.

JQ436, the 'high noon' 1200 MEL to OOL is expected to depart an hour late.

What should also ordinarily be JQ29 (1305 hours MEL to BKK), but which on the QF website is only displaying as the codeshare QF265 (normally all flight numbers are displayed) has been cancelled. Surprisingly, the cancellation is not yet showing on the Melbourne Airport website.

On Tuesday 19 April, JQ784 (0930 hours SYD - MCY) departed 67 minutes late while JQ814 was a little less delayed in pushing back 42 minutes late at 1032 for its flight ex SYD northwards to BNE.

JQ406, the 1020 SYD to OOL should instead depart at 1105. JQ721 (1110 hours SYD south to HBA) should push back at 1140.

While it is not school holidays and hence there should be lower numbers of passengers on many JQ flights (and it is Tuesday to boot), multiple delays like this make it difficult to keep to timetable for much of the day even if occasionally the turnaround times are somewhat more generous due to slightly less pressure on the fleet.

UPDATE: JQ609, the 1825 hours early evening SYD to AVV (A320 VH-VQL) took off late at 1917 and is arriving AVV at about 2030, half an hour behind schedule. The returning JQ610 is estimated to depart at 2100, also half an hour behind with ST+YD arrival at 2225 hours identically late.

The 0655 SYD across to ADL, JQ762, is not having a great start to Wednesday 20 April with its 0655 hours timetabled pushback delayed to an anticipated 0800, a time that passed 10 minutes ago.

The 1035 SYD - CNS, JQ954 is suggested as departing almost two hours late at 1225 this afternoon. JQ824, the 1055 SYD north to BNE is cancelled.

The 0915 hours departure of JQ43 from MEL to DPS has been delayed until 1300 hours. JQ2 from HNL is expected to arrive about 40 minutes late in MEL this afternoon at around 1520 hours.

JQ608, the Wednesday 20 April 1805 hours AVV - SYD has been cancelled.

The previous post suggested that today's JQ43 would depart at 1300 rather than 0915. However it did not take off until 1829 with DPS arrival ex MEL suggested as about 2200 local time instead of 1315 hours. JQ43 has not been a punctual perfomer on a number of days in recent months. Compared to GA and VA it is quite unreliable, something perhaps for potential patrons to note.

JQ44, which normally departs at 1445 will hence arrive in MEL tomorrow morning (Thursday 21 April.)

JQ607 (mid afternoon 1525 hours SYD down to AVV) was cancelled as was the return flight due out of AVV at 1805.

The 1715 hours MEL north to army territory in TSV, JQ916, was airborne at 1843 with arrival forecast to be about 75 minutes late at 2130. The return flight will also be delayed.

On Thursday 21 April, JQ972 from MEL to PER departed 44 minutes late at 0844 with arrival forecast as 1059, identical lateness.

Earlier, JQ762 from SYD to ADL departed half an hour late at 0725 but QF suggests arrival will be 20 minutes behind at 0855.

JQ774 (0830 hours MEL - ADL) should instead depart at 0920. The 1015 hours MEL up to SYD, JQ508 is cancelled, as is JQ511, the 1210 hours southbound on the route.

The 0950 hours SYD - BNE, JQ814, should be 80 minutes late departing while the earlier JQ815 (0745 hours BNE down to SYD) is similarly delayed with a new departure time of 0905.

The DPS - TSV JQ101, aircraft A320 VH-VFT, is about 40 minutes late and should be on blocks at roughly 0955.

JQ660, the 1030 SYD - AYQ was forecast to instead depart at 1100 but had not done so by 1105. The 1105 SYD to OOL, JQ438 departed at 1134 but will be marginally later upon arrival at 1257, 32 minutes late.

The 1115 JQ7 from MEL departed at 1214 for SIN with arrival at the Changi gate predicted as 1749 hours, 59 minutes late.

JQ483 (1150 hours BNE - NTL) is suggested as departing 80 minutes late at 1310 hours.

With the inclement MEL weather, JQ is suffering quite a few delays during mid evening on Thursday 21 April 2016. JQ743, the 1905 hours from MEL to LST departed 21 minutes late but arrived half an hour behind.

JQ446, the 2000 hours MEL to OOL has been cancelled. Reports about whether passengers have been accommodated in hotels would be welcome.

JQ528, the 2045 hours MEL to SYD is expected to push back 55 minutes late for a 2305 arrival in SYD, 55 minutes late and (given that the crucial time is landing, not taxiing to the arrival gate) right 'on the knocker' for the Sydney Airport 2300 hours nightly curfew.

JQ678, the 2130 hours MEL to DRW is suggested as departing an hour late for arrival on Friday 22 only 20 minutes late at 0145 hours, an unpleasant and tiring time to arrive for many non-night owls.

On Friday 22 April, JQ745, the 0710 from SYD to LST is expected to be an hour late pushing back.

JQ472 from MEL to NTL should depart 75 minutes late at 0730.

Our old frequently delayed friend JQ43 is at it again, with the Wednesday 27 April 0915 hours departure from MEL put back until 1700 in the late afternoon. DPS arrival is suggested at 2100 rather than 1315. This may have some implications for a Thursday flight back to Oz depending on how close the allowed hotel crew layover times ('slip') sail to the mandatory regulatory wind, so to speak.

JQ44 is therefore expected to depart at 2215 rather than 1445 with MEL arrival anticipated at 0540 hours on Thursday 28 April rather than the usual (in this case) 2210 hours late evening Wednesday arrival.

With a quick check I could not see any resultant further cancellations but that may be a factor of websites not having yet been updated.

This far too frequent late running must be displeasing to holidaymakers to Bali who are an eclectic mix of the very upmarket, moneyed hotel and villa patrons to those who, to say it politely, are not quite in the same social class.

JQ831, the Monday 2 May 2016 1215 PPP to MEL took off at 1324 and with A320 VH-VFH operating, should be at its destination at about 1615, 35 minutes tardy.

JQ437 (1240 OOL down to MEL, aircraft A321 VH-VWZ) took off at 1346 and should arrive in the southern capital at roughly 1605, an even hour late.

The 1050 hours HBA to AVV took off very late at 1437 and is arriving at 1548, three hours and 38 minutes behind time. Aircraft is A320 VH-XSJ. In turn, JQ604, the 1240 AVV up to SYD is delayed in departing until an expected 1620 hours.

Earlier today, JQ627 (0905 hours AVV - HBA) appears to have taken off at 0907 from AVV but arrived back at AVV at 1051.

The 2/5/16 JQ35/JQ 36 the MEL-DPS-MEL appears to be severely delayed and JQ35 appears to not have departed even the next day 3/5/16 as yet as the flight data have not been captured by the usual online flight monitoring services.

Im not sure which onward 787 flight is going to be affected after its return from DPS. Several JQ787 services depart from MEL today 3/5/16:

JQ29 BKK 1305
JG17 HKT 1450
JQ1 HNL 1620

JQ29 has gotten the short straw, with Jetstar suggesting its new departure time to be 2240 hours - a delay of a little less than 10 hours. Those on JQ30 would need to find somewhere to spend the night in BKK, with an ETD of 0615 the next morning.

I should also add that JQ30 often turns around as the JQ7 to SIN so that one's worth watching out for as well for 4 May.

Thanks AA

The other JQ 787 DPS service(JQ43/44 which also masquerades as QF256/257) appears to be operating as usual so I would imagine there would be some JQ35/36 refugees on these flights not only today but tomorrow.

As the 35/36 is severely delayed with no current data regarding flight reschedules, I would not be surprised that this will be realised (or actually was all along) as a JQ last minute cancellations especially as this service at this time of the year is Mon Thurs Sat for the 35? with the 43/44 service being the anchor daily service

MEL airport suggests (and as did awesome Andy) that JQ29 will be at the receiving end departing 9 hours late but may yet be on time if 35/36 is cancelled.

1500AEST:

It appears that the 2/5/16 JQ35 to DPS which was posted as delayed this morning has dissapeared off the MEL departures list. There does not appear to be another JQ35 today or tomorrow. So it seems that a Jetstar Cancellation is in place.

On Wednesday 4 May 2016, JQ990 (1000 from MEL to OOL) has been cancelled.

JQ30 from BKK should arrive MEL at about 1810 this evening rather than its normally scheduled 0930 hours, so that makes it about eight and a half hours late, a bit less than the previous discussion in the last few posts. As yet, no JQi delays ex MEL have been publicly placed on the Melbourne Airport website.

The delayed JQ35/36 that was supposed to depart MEL for DPS on 2/5/16 at 1800 hrs AEST finally managed to do so operated by VH-VKG just before 0900AEST on 3/5/16 about 30 minutes before the punctual JQ43/44 (operated by VH-VKK)

The return was completed about 12 hours later.

The flight number was changed to JQ1035/1036 which was the reason JQ35/36 appeared to have disappeared off the airport departures list.

3/5/16 JQ29/30 got the short stick from this with VH-VKG just having a drink and pee and immediately turning around with the departure of the 29 pushed back to 2324AEST 10 hours late and the 30 is airborne expected to land in about 30 minutes - 9.5 hours late today 4/3/16.

Melburnian1, does the practice of changing flight numbers of delayed operations, in less than truthful way improve the flight route/ airline statistics?
