Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

It is 1926 hours and the delayed JQ7 (a B788) that was meant to depart at 1915 on 15 May in lieu of the normal 1115 hours has yet to commence pushing back.

JQ43 from MEL to DPS on Monday 16 May is expected to depart at 1255 instead of 0915 as it must wait for JQ8 to return ex SIN overnight. The Monday 16 May scheduled arrival in MEL of JQ44 ex DPS is forecast to occur at 0135 on Tuesday morning, an unpleasant time to arrive given that it means being in bed at 0300 or later for most.

UPDATE: JQ7 took off at 1945 hours on Sunday 15 May.

JQ174 is arriving in MEL at about 0006 on Monday 16 May instead of 2220 on Sunday 15. This flight originates in CHC. JQ173, the 0015 hours Monday 16 May back to CHC is expected to depart at around 0045 hours.

On Monday 16 May, JQ772, the 1010 from MEL across to ADL is expected to depart at 1040 while the 1015 to SYD ex MEL, JQ508 should be 40 minutes late in departing at 1055.

Delays for JQ flights scheduled to depart from MEL between 1000 - 1100 are common. This may be a 'tourist friendly' time of the day when the number of available gates is under pressure, particularly if one or two flights arrive late.

JQ474, the 1200 MEL - NTL is expected to depart at 1240.

From observation at MEL despite the normal use of two sets of stairs, boarding is slow with JQ.

As suggested in post 541 above, the 0915 hours MEL - DPS is very late on Monday 16 May with takeoff in the form of B788 VH-VKG at 1325 hours and expected arrival three hours and 40 minutes late at 1655.

JQ2 from HNL arrived MEL at about 1650 hours on Monday 16 May, 70 minutes behind time.

Late arrivals and departures are continuing for JQi into and out of MEL.

On Tuesday 17 May 2016, JQ17 to HKT has been altered to depart at about 1920, instead of 1450 hours - a delay of around four and a half hours.

JQ1 from MEL to HNL should depart almost three hours late at around the 1900 mark instead of mid afternoon at 1610.

The delays affecting JQi passengers ex MEL have become greater, with Tuesday 17 may's JQ17 - timetabled to depart at 1450 - now amended to an 0700 early morning Wednesday 18 May departure.

The 18 May arriving JQ18 ex HKT (normally due in at 0945 into MEL) will instead arrive at 0130 hours on Thursday 19 May.

The 1250 hours arrival in MEL on wednesday 18 May 2016 ex BNE, JQ563, did not arrive mid afternoon until 1543. JQ must have shuffled flights around as this does not seem to have resulted in any super delayed afternoon departures from Melbourne.

The redeye JQ38 (DPS - SYD) in the shape of B788 VH-VKA on Thursday 19 May should arrive at about 0850 instead of 0615 as it was not airborne until 0110 this morning instead of departing at 2235 hours on Thursday late night, 18 May.

JQ91 on Friday 20 May was airborne from DPS at 0325 compared to its departure time of 0230 hours, and with A320 VH-VGI as its aircraft, should arrive in CNS about 55 minutes late at 0955.

On Saturday 21 May, JQ18 from HKT should arrive in MEL about 43 minutes late at 1028. Aircraft is B788 VH-VKK.

JQ521, the 1725 hours SYD - MEL on Sunday 22 May took off at 1808 and with A321 VH-VWT should arrive about 35 minutes late at 1935 this evening. A fairly strong north wind is at Melbourne Airport.

On Monday 23 May, JQ721, the 1110 SYD down to HBA departed at 1205 and is expected to arrive 55 minutes late at 1400 hours this afternoon.

JQ7 (1115 MEL to SIN) departed 29 minutes late with estimated arrival at 1720 this afternoon half an hour behind.

JQ511, the 1210 SYD to MEL took off at 1303 with arrival likely at about 1415 (A320 VH-VGI), half an hour behind the timetable.

UPDATE: JQ414, the 1630 hours from SYD to OOL did not take off until 1714 and hence its plane, A320 VH-VGJ, should arrive at the Gold Coast airport at about 1828, 38 minutes late.

JQ416 from SYD to OOL departed 35 minutes behind time at 1635, arriving 37 minutes late at 1757 hours.

Flagship JQ1, the 1610 hours long distance flight to HNL (B788 VH-VKF) on Tuesday 24 May was airborne at 1834. Arrival is suggested as about 0830 same day, two hours and 10 minutes late. As JQ2 is timetabled to depart back to MEL at 0745 hours HNL time, it will be late: an 0935 or 0940 hours departure may be achievable.

One JQ morning flight ex HBA (either JQ700, the 0800 that arrived MEL two minutes late at 0917 hours, or JQ702 that arrived in MEL 12 minutes behind at 1142) incorrectly had an emergency slide deployed onto the tarmac by a hostess, instead of a cabin door being disarmed. I am guessing that it was JQ700. If it had been me I would turn bright crimson.

Doubtless some such incidents are not reported but they are not common if the relative paucity of media mentions is any guide.

'Herald Sun' reports that the crew (it does not state whether just 'cabin' or 'technical') have been stood down while the incident investigated. Passengers took happy snaps that as usual appeared in this media article.

Not sure if it was connected, although it is possible, but JQ432, the 1000 from MEL to OOL did not depart until 1449 this afternoon with arrival suggested as 1649 instead of 1200 'high noon.'

On Wednesday 25 May, JQ27 (1425 hours SYD to a leisure traveller favourite in HKT) was airborne at 1526 and hence will not arrive until approximately 2125, 40 minutes late. Plane is B788 VH-VKK.

Quickstatus, could the angle be a 'bit steep' because media reports indicated that it was deployed when the aircraft was still taxiing and allegedly 10 metres from coming to a stand, that is, 'on blocks?'

Aircraft doors are not opened until aircraft is come to complete stop. It may have only deployed maybe because the crew member responsible for disarming the door did not properly check and the opposite door crew member did not crosscheck ... (Unless there was a mechanical malfunction and the crew did properly check). If the aircraft door was opened while the aircraft was still moving then this would be a major breach of practice and I cant see any cabin crew doing it until the steps have arrived.

Am I missing something? As JB747 opined recently the detail is often hidden in the pretty pictures.

The height of the aircraft door would be the same whether at the stand or at some remote place.

If the aircraft door was opened when the bridge or stairs have arrived this is what it looks like.
Did the Jq700 aircraft door open before the stairs arrived?

More questions:
(a) how long does it take to replace a deployed slide
(b) Are these single use like car airbags?
(c) Can a prepackaged slide module be installed rather than reinstalling the existing slide?
(d)So what are the minimum required conditions to open an aircraft door

On Thursday 26 May, JQ976, the 1520 hours MEL to PER (A320 VH-VGJ) took off at 1552 and should arrive at about 1757, 32 minutes late.

JQ438 (the 1405 MEL to OOL) did not take off until 1526.

The NTL to MEL JQ477 was timetabled to push back at 1420 but was instead airborne at 1616 with arrival of A320 VH-VFJ likely at about 1648 hours, 48 minutes behind time.

JQ772 (1010 MEL across to ADL) is expected to depart half an hour behind at 1030 on Friday 27 May. This is due to JQ433 from OOL similarly being about half an hour late with a rough arrival time predicted of 1010.

With the fairly strong westerly wind in SYD this morning, runway 25 is in use. JQ11, the 0805 SYD to OOL is only queuing for departure as at 0848 so will be late for its 1045 hours OOL to NRT, Japan leg.

Significant delays are continuing in SYD during the early afternoon of Friday 27 May due to the west wind and resultant restricted runway operations.

JQ509, the 1045 from SYD to MEL was airborne at 1258. A320 VH-YQW should arrive in MEL at about 1400, 100 minutes late.
