On Thursday 18 August 2016 at page 3, 'The Australian' has an article by its aviation journalist Mitchell Bingemann entitled 'Engine shutdown risk for Jetstar' that discusses problems leading to a loss of oil pressure for the General Electric GEnx model engine.
The article suggests that up to half of Jetstar's Boeing Dreamliners could be flying with the problem and lists a considerable number of other airlines that have experienced difficulties with the engine including AI, CZ, JL, QR and UA.
It discusses the GUM diversion noted above but does not state that this marooned the aircraft (VH-VKK) in GUM for 10 days, a considerable period of time. Like competitors 'Sydney Morning Herald' and 'The Age', 'The Australian' has an early cut off for its print edition so the journalist may have written the story on Wednesday morning before the Dreamliner stuck in GUM departed for MEL.
This is a very technical area so those of us who are mere mortal passengers without engineering knowledge can only hope that such problems are solved.
Also on 18 August, JQ850, the 1445 MEL - CNS (A321 VH-VWU) took off at 1704 with arrival suggested as 2015, 130 minutes tardy.
