Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

In addition to the JQ29 cancellation ex MEL, JQ731, the 0705 hours from MEL to LST has been delayed in its departure until a forecast 0815.

Later, JQ508, the 1015 MEL - SYD is not expected to commence pushback until 1110.

UPDATE: A further delay sees JQ731 now allegedly departing at 0830.

JQ731 on Monday 10 October was later than predicted above, so the returning JQ730 from LST to MEL, the 0840 hours, did not take off until 1035. VH-VQZ (A320) should arrive MEL at 1129 instead of 0945.

This will then delay JQ508, the 1015 MEL up to SYD to what is suggested on one website as departure at 1145 but in reality with an 1129 arrival, 1205 looks more like it: almost two hours late on a journey that from gate to gate should take an hour 25 minutes.
 
During the mid afternoon of Monday 10 October 2016, most flights are using runway 25 at SYD.

JQ766 (1245 hours SYD to ADL, VH-VGN, an A320) is queued at 1445 for takeoff following SYD - MEL freighter flight CX28 and JQ515, the 1345 hours SYD - MEL.

JQ766 is about 90 minutes late while JQ515 is at least 40 minutes behind schedule.


 
On 10 October, JQ521, the 1725 hours from SYD down to MEL took off at 1754 but is unlikely to arrive before 1935 (35 minutes tardy) as it is in a holding pattern as at 1856 above Mt Buller, Victoria. A321 VH-VWX is the aircraft.

JQ443, the timetabled 2020 hours arrival in MEL ex OOL is delayed by 70 minutes.

JQ570, the Tuesday 11 October 1730 hours MEL to BNE that took off at 1809 should arrive at about 1913 early this evening, 33 minutes late. VH-XSJ is the A320 aircraft.
 
Wednesday 12 October sees JQ974, the mid afternoon 1510 hours ADL to PER having taken off at 1553 with arrival of A320 VH-VQR suggested as 1639, 34 minutes tardy.

The 1425 hours CNS - MEL, JQ943, should arrive 34 minutes late at 1924 with aircraft A320 VH-VGP.

JQ521 (1725 hours SYD - MEL) was not airborne until 1835. A321 VH-VWZ is the plane, with arrival forecast as 62 minutes late at 2002 this evening.

The 1700 hours from increasingly popular Ballina airport (BNK) to MEL, JQ465 (A320 VH-JQX) was airborne at 1903 hours early this evening. Gate arrival should be at approximately 2115 hours, an even two hours delayed.

JQ479 (1830 hours NTL - MEL) was in the sky at 1903; arrival is estimated as 2043, 44 minutes tardy with A320 VH-VGT undertaking the task.

On Thursday 13 October, JQ507 (A321 VH-VWZ), the 0825 hours SYD to MEL had yet to take off as at 0910; arrival will therefore be about half an hour late.
 
Later on 13 October, JQ518, the 1615 hours from MEL to SYD took off at 1715; arrival of A320 VH-VGZ should be at around 1833, 53 minutes late.

JQ522, the same route and direction's 1940 hours scheduled departure took off at 2056; arrival of A321 VH-VWY is suggested as 2208, 63 minutes late.

JQ's timekeeping on the MEL - SYD - MEL route is poor: easily the worst of the four major airlines. It was only a few short years ago that TT was the laughing stock but that has changed in the past 18 months.

Friday 14 October's 1015 hours MEL to DPS, JQ43, did not take off until mid afternoon, at 1458 and therefore will not arrive in Bali until 1711, 236 minutes behind time. B788 VH-VKE is operating the flight.

As a result the poor folk booked on JQ44 are not predicted to depart until 1825 (instead of 1445) for a most unpleasant arrival time of 0250 hours on Saturday 15 October instead of the normal 2310 hours on Friday evening.

The 1145 hours from DPS down to PER, JQ109, was in the sky at 1322 with an 80 minute tardy arrival of 1645 hours predicted. A320 VH-VQP is the conveyance.
 
Later on 14 October, JQ441 (1540 hours from OOL down to MEL) took off at 1630. Arrival of A320 VH-JQG should be at about 1937, 32 minutes tardy.

JQ465 from BNK to the same destination is not many nautical miles behind. It should arrive in MEL at 1949, 34 late with plane A320 VH-JQX.

JQ819 (1940 hours flight from BNE to SYD) was airborne at 2020; arrival is suggested as 2249, 34 late. A320 VH-VGF is the plane.

Saturday 15 October sees JQ402's SYD - OOL VH-VGQ (A320) having had somewhat of a lie-in as despite departure being mandated for 0640, takeoff was not until 0757. Arrival is suggested as 67 minutes behind schedule at 0807.
 
JQ824, the 1055 hours SYD - BNE on Saturday 15 October (A320 VH-VGQ) is moving down the runway at 1152 but has yet to be airborne, so it will be at least 40 minutes later into BNE than its timetabled 1125 hours arrival.
 
Later on 15 October, JQ951, the 1620 hours mid afternoon CNS - MEL (A320 VH-VQM) took off at 1700 hours, about 20 minutes behind schedule, but is forecast to lose time on the gate-to-gate journey with arrival likely at 2132, 47 minutes late.

Stablemate JQ949, the 1745 hours from CNS also down to MEL took off at 1822. A321 VH-VWZ should arrive at 2246 tonight, 36 minutes later than timetabled.

JQ35, the 1845 hours night flight from MEL - DPS took off at 2004 (B788 VH-VKG) with arrival forecast at 2303, 78 minutes tardy.

JQ38 into SYD on Sunday 16 October is arriving about 42 minutes late at 0757 with B788 VH-VKD.

The 0720 hours from BNE down to MEL, JQ561 (A320 VH-VGO) did not take off until 0809, so arrival is suggested as 1122, 32 minutes late.

The BNE - PPP JQ830 (A320 VH-VQU) took off at 0925 on 15 October against its timetabled pushback of 0840, so it should be in the Whitsundays at around 1106, 41 minutes behind the schedule.

Also on Sunday 16 October, JQ912, the 1210 hours SYD - TSV (A320 VH-VQG) is still waiting at 1318 to take off, so it is unlikely to arrive before 1450 Queensland time compared to the scheduled at gate arrival time of 1355.

JQ665, the 1125 AYQ down to MEL (A320 VH-VFD) took off at 1209. Arrival is suggested as 37 minutes behind at 1612.

JQ631 (1135 hours OOL down to AVV) took off at 1238. Arrival of A320 VH-VFU should be at around 1542, 52 minutes late. This then forms JQ606, the 1530 hours to SYD, so expect that to be about an hour late pushing back.

Further north, JQ412, the 1305 from SYD up to OOL took off at 1432. VH-VGN (we know what aircraft type!) is operating what is a projected 70 minute late arrival at 1535 this afternoon.

Also on Sunday 16 October, JQ793, the 1001 MCY - MEL did not take off until 1301. Arrival should be at 1618 not 1330. VH-VQP is the A320.

VH-VGD (another A320) has taken off from SYD at 1646 (pushback time was 1525) on JQ607, a SYD to AVV flight. Arrival is estimated at 1814 hours, 74 minutes late.

Meanwhile. northbound, JQ606, the 1530 hours AVV - SYD (VH-VFU) managed to push back at 1623, about seven minutes earlier than expected, so arrival in SYD should be not an hour late but about 46 minutes behind at 1741.

JQ564 (1435 hours from MEL north to BNE) did not take off until 1550 this afternoon. A320 VH-VGO should be at the BNE arrival gate at 1646, 61 minutes behind the schedule.

In further delays on 16 October, JQ3, the 1725 hours late afternoon from SYD to HNL still had not taken off by 1927, but had departed. B788 VH-VKK is the conveyance. Expect JQ4 to also be late for its return from HNL to SYD.

Earlier, JQ37 (1740 SYD - DPS) was airborne at 1841, with arrival of B788 VH-VKD suggested as an even hour late at 2205 this evening.

Another MCY - MEL flight, JQ797 (the 1630 hours departure) is badly late with takeoff at 1851. A320 VH-VQP should be at the MEL arrival gate at 2157, 117 minutes behind time.

JQ776 (the 2040 MEL across to ADL) took off at 2131 with VH-VQQ predicted as 51 minutes late terminating at 2221 later this evening.

Travelling north, JQ948 (1920 MEL to CNS, A320 VH-VQH) took off at 2012 this evening, so arrival in this northern Queensland major city should be at 2229, 49 minutes tardy.

On Monday 17 October, the 1215 hours MEL - SIN, JQ7, was not in the sky until 1328, so B788 VH-VKB will not arrive until approximately 1802, 62 minutes behind the schedule.
 
After a recent good run, it seems the MEL-PER route has returned to its old habits with the JQ972 8.00am flight across to the west (and the return journey JQ977) having been cancelled at least the past four days. All well and good if you're on a sector where there's a flight every hour or so and you are easily accommodated (however inconveniently) later on that day. However, there are two JQ flights per day at most on this route, with a wait of 15 hours until the next one - departing 10.50pm and arriving the wee hours after midnight into Perth. Not the ideal situation if you've planned an interstate weekend away.

As discussed quite frequently before (with Melburnian1 trying to get to the crux of this matter) - (a) how much notice do the PAX get of any change in schedule? (they are selling seats on these flights seemingly up until the day before) and (b) are you simply scheduled on this later JQ flight or scattered amongst the QF flights throughout the day? One can't imagine only two half-filled JQ flights being combined, so there must be a QF involvement here. Are these then prioritized according to QF status or JQ Max/Bundle ticket holders ? One may play the devil's advocate and say if they were guaranteed a QF flight and were given sufficient notice, you'd purposely buy a JQ ticket at a cheaper price and sit back, waiting for your "last minute cancellation" and told to hightail it over to T1 instead of T4 and head on up to the Qantas Lounge.

I know Melburnian1 has suggested in the past that, in fact, it may be the Qantas loads which are down on the day and, rather than disrupt those business & higher-fare paying passengers, it is a better business decision to change the plans of the mere Jetstar flyer. It would definitely be good to hear of any first-hand experience with this - I know nobody here seems to admit to being a Jetstar patron, but perhaps one or two are willing to come out from the shadows and give us some details.
 
jakob01, an outstanding post. Thank you, as I was unaware that these flights on the most popular transcontinental route (yes, MEL - PER carries more passengers every month than SYD - PER) were regularly getting the gong from JQ.

We will all understand if those who fly JQ claim on AFF that 'a friend had this experience...' so please, answer jakob01's very good questions even if you cannot bring yourself to admit that you fly with JQ.

With the downturn in mining and resources (albeit some minor signs now of a pickup) yields on routes such as MEL - PER must have dropped but that is no reason for JQ to advertise a flight two days before it is scheduled and then cancel it. Very poor treatment of passengers and as jakob01 implies, it destroys the much looked forward to prospect of a short break such as a weekend away for leisure travellers, and is even worse for time sensitive but focused on economising in travel expenditure small businessmen.

At one stage some AFF members suggested that JQ had a tech crew shortage and that this route was the one selected for compulsory flight frequency reduction - but that begs the question, why still advertise (and presumably sell seats on) such flights so close to the scheduled departure date?
