Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

Thanks Melbournian1, for all the information you provide in this thread.

Thank you feezable, but clicking the 'like' button is sufficient 'thanks.'

On Thursday 8 December 2016, JQ58, the redeye from DPS to BNE (B788 VH-VKF) should arrive about 72 minutes late at 0807. This flight then proceeds to MEL with a timetabled departure of 0925 so that should still be on time.

JQ501, the first of the morning down from SYD to MEL was cancelled.

In further on Thursday 8 December, JQ702, the 1015 HBA - MEL took off at about 1057 with arrival suggested as half an hour late at 1205.

Also on 8 December, the less than daily JQ626 (1050 hours from HBA to AVV) was airborne at 1138 with arrival expected 43 minutes behind at 1253. VH-VQU is the A320.

As a result, JQ604, the 1240 hours AVV - SYD has been delayed in its departure until a suggested 1315, but 1320 - 25 might be more likely.

In further on Thursday 8 December, JQ517 (1405 hours from SYD down to MEL, A321 VH-VWZ) took off at 1445. At 1531 it was in the usual holding position above Mt Buller (Vic.) and hence should arrive at approximately 1618 hours, 38 minutes late, an effective loss of about 20 minutes on its point-to-point journey.

JQ29 (mid afternoon 8 December 1435 hours MEL - BKK) took off at 1627 with B788 VH-VKA. Arrival should be at 2126 tonight, 96 minutes behind schedule.

JQ741, the 1650 hours MEL - LST is badly late on 8 December with an estimated departure time of 2100 hours this evening.

The 1730 hours from NTL to MEL, JQ479, took off at 1824 with arrival suggested as 54 late at 2004 hours. A320 VH-VQJ is the aircraft.

JQ754 (1800 hours LST - BNE, A320 VH-VQM) was in teh sky at 1842 hours; arrival is predicted at 2014, 43 minutes late.

Also on 8 December, JQ714 (2055 hours MEL - HBA) took off at 2219 with arrival suggested for A321 Vh-VWW at 2329 instead of 2215 hours.

Thanks moa999.
1 aircraft out of service and it puts the entire 787 fleet timetable into significant rolling delays.
Surprising that the VH-VKG is still inoperable after 10 days. I remember recently when a QF747 engine needed replacing in JNB another B747 ferried the replacement engine under its wing all the way to JNB. That aircraft was grounded only for a few days.

Perhaps as a LCC parts inventory is minimal especially for a spare engine. Alternatively the GEnX engine is in short supply with much of the current stock spoken for in the production line? Maybe something else is wrong?

The time frame surprised me too. I vaguely recall JQi leasing engines under a power by hour agreement similar to QF A380

I understand it's "power by the hour" as well

10 days for an engine change suggests some other issue at hand?
As a comparo:
Late November a Singair A380 (9V-SKJ) had engine problems operating SIN-CDG. It diverted to DXB. A replacement engine was pressed into service from SIN. I recall total delay about 17 hours.

I guess they can't hook up a spare engine to a plane and fly it over like QF (and other airlines) did with a 747.

Wonder if it was the best decision for the pilots to continue to HNL in this case. While it was definitely safe to continue on and perfectly acceptable for the task of the flight, their spare parts bins are most likely located in Australia.

Apparently the pilots had no coughpit indication that something was awry.
The story is unclear. Did the flight crew know a bird strike had occurred during the climb?

On Tuesday 13 December 2016, JQ796, the mid afternoon 1455 hours from MEL to MCY has been delayed in its departure until a predicted 1800 hours.

JQ442 (1800 hours MEL up to OOL) has been cancelled as has JQ518 (2015 hours MEL to SYD.)

JQ516 (1620 hours MEL - SYD) is instead predicted to push back (if that is the correct word for the aerobridge-less MELT4 - 'depart' might be more accurate) at 1700.

Wednesday 14 December sees JQ43, the mid morning 0955 hours MEL - DPS retimed to a projected 1150 hours pushback, meaning that the late evening arrival of JQ44 back in MEL may become super early on Thursday 15 December.

In further on Tuesday 13, JQ419 (A320 VH-XSJ), the 1600 hours from OOL down to SYD was airborne at 1646. It is predicted to arrive at around 1907 hours, 37 minutes behind schedule.

UPDATE: JQ849 (1405 hours HTI down to SYD) took off at 1532 with A320 VH-VGH; arrival should be at 1847, 77 minutes late.

The delayed JQ796 (see above) took off at 1818 hours on Tuesday 12 *A320 VH-VGR) with suggested arrival at 1928, 193 minutes late in MCY.

The 1625 hours HBA - SYD (JQ756, VH-VQG, an A320) was airborne at 1732 and should arrive 57 late at 1907.

JQ710 (late afternoon 1655 hours from HBA up to MEL, A321 VH-VWU) was in the sky at 1720 but has taken what on a standard map projection appears to be an unusual jagged path to the Victorian capital. Arrival is estimated at 1854, 39 latte after a 1720 hours takeoff, so a very slow flight.

Updating the advice from yesterday, the 14 December JQ43 from MEL to DPS (B788 VH-VKE) took off at 1159 so arrival should be at around 1458 this afternon, 123 minutes behind schedule. JQ44 will naturally be delayed into MEL tonight with an amended estimated arrival at 0035 on Thursday 15.

In further on Wednesday 14 December, JQ418, the 1510 hours from SYD to OOL (A320 VH-VFI) had yet to commence pushback by 1701 hours so it will be at least an hour late in its arrival.

The 1520 hours JQ514 from MEL up to SYD is yet another unpunctual JQ flight on this extremely busy route with takeoff occurring at 1642 with A321 VH-VWQ. It is predicted for a 1756, 71 minute late arrival in Australia's mainland harbour city.

A320 VH-VGQ on JQ940, the scheduled mid afternoon 1430 hours from MEL up to CNS has fared worse with it in the sky at 1645. Arrival should be at around 1904, a significant 134 minutes delayed.

JQ476, the 1530 hours MEL - NTL with A320 VH-VGP took off at 1654. It should pull in to its allocated Newcastle NSW gate at about 1822, 82 minutes tardy.

While JQ778, the MEL - ADL timetabled 1600 hours departure with A320 VH-VFL is not as seriously affected, having become airborne at 1650 (about half an hour late), arrival is not predicted until 1733, 43 late.

Additional projected delays on 14 December include JQ522, the 1940 hours from MEL to SYD expected to depart 70 minutes late while the following flight, 524 should push back at 2115 instead of 2045. If the latter does not leave for another half an hour after the prediction it would be at severe risk of 'missing' SYD's 2300 hours curfew.

Moral of the story continues to be if travelling on a low cost airline between MEL and SYD choose TT not JQ. While TT is imperfect and not free of delays or cancellations, it has a much better record than disastrous JQ.

Thursday 15 December sees JQ745 (A320 VH-VQG, the 0710 hours from SYD down to LST) not taking off until 0809, so it will be at least 40 minutes behind schedule in arriving.

On Friday 16 December 2016, JQ57, the interesting and unusually routed MEL - BNE - DPS that generally operates a couple of times a week should arrive in the Sunshine State's capital at `63` hours, 36 minutes tardy. Aircraft is B788 Vh-VKH.

JQ709 (mid afternoon 1500 hours flight from MEL down to HBA) took off at 1538 with A320 Vh-VGQ. Arrival is projected as 1646, 31 minutes late.

Additionally on 16 December, JQ797 (the late afternoon MCY - MEL due to depart at 1645, but which was airborne at 1750) is arriving at about 2110 hours, an hour behind schedule with A320 VH-VFQ.

JQ478, the 2000 hours from MEL to NTL was airborne at 2047 so arrival should be at around 2204, 34 late with VH-VQM.

The 1815 hours from ADL across to SYD, JQ761 (A320 VH-VQG) took off at 1914 hours; arrival should be at 2119, 39 minutes tardy.

JQ959 from CNS down to SYD is behind JQ761 and likely to be at its allocated gate in SYD at about 2120, 55 minutes tardy. VH-VGF is the tasked aircraft.
