Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

The Saturday 17 December JQ15 from MEL to CNS and on to KIX has been delayed in its departure from 0815 this morning to 1430 this afternoon. Not a great time of the year for delays like this to occur.

On Sunday 18 December, JQ511, the 1220 hours from SYD down to MEL has been cancelled.

The 1345 hours MEL - LST, JQ739 (A320 VH-VQH) was in the air at 1459; arrival should be at 1553, 63 minutes behind the schedule.

JQ515 (1350 hours early afternoon from SYD down to MEL) took off at 1433, about 25 minutes behind schedule but thanks to being placed in a holding position above Mt Buller, Vic - a standard selection by ATC - arrival of A320 VH-VGJ is unlikely before 1559, 34 minutes late.

Monday 19 December 2016 sees JQ954, the late morning 1140 hours SYD to CNS likely to be delayed in departing until 1325.

JQ792, the peak period 0800 hours from MEL to MCY is predicted to instead depart at 0850. A delay like this so early in the morning makes it hard to regain time all day unless a return flight rotation is later cancelled, especially with the school holiday crowds slowing boarding. Parents with children can rarely be as fast in boarding and alighting as solo traveller adults: while the difference may only be a few seconds each, it adds up, especially when flights are fully booked.

The 1000 MEL - OOL JQ432 has been delayed to a predicted 1040 hours. JQ464 from MEL to BNK, also a scheduled 1000 pushback should instead do so at 1030.

Later on Monday 19 December, the 1530 hours MEL - NTL, JQ476, took off at 1640 so arrival of A320 VH-VQF is expected at around 1801 hours, 61 minutes tardy.

In the opposite direction JQ477 has fared far worse with takeoff from NTL at 1615 for MEL compared to its timetabled departure of 1430 this afternoon; arrival of A320 VH-VQM should be at 1741 hours, 91 minutes late.

In the evening of Monday 19 December, JQ776 (1940 hours from MEL to ADL) took off at 2055; arrival of A320 VH-VQF is likely at 2136, 66 minutes late. There is quite a nasty looking rain band (red in colour on the BOM website) about to hit ADL from the looks of things at around 2155 AEDT (2125 hours SA time.)

In the opposite direction, JQ769, the 1940 hours was not airborne until 2049. SYD arrival is projected as 2257, 52 minutes late with A320 VH-VQE the aircraft.

JQ441 (1945 hours mid evening from OOL down to MEL) was airborne at 2033 tonight. Arrival of VH-VGQ (A320) should be at 2350 hours, 45 minutes late.

Further north, JQ906, the 2010 hours from BNE up to TSV took off at 2048, so arrival is estimated as half an hour behind schedule at 2235 tonight. Aircraft is VH-JQX.

JQ672 has quite a long trek from BNE up to DRW. This 2030 hours timetabled flight with A320 VH-VQU took off at 2115; arrival should be at around 0020 on Tuesday 20 December, 50 minutes behind schedule. It appears to be forming JQ671, the 0010 hours Tuesday 20 December DRW - SYD so that will be delayed as well.

On Tuesday 20 December, JQ771, the early morning 0610 hours from ADL to MEL (A320 VH-JQG) was airborne at 0654; arrival should be at about 0837, 37 minutes tardy.

The overnight DPS - ADL, JQ128 should arrive about 90 minutes tardy at 0735 with A320 VH-VQL.

In further on 20 December, JQ775 (1340 hours from ADL across to MEL) did not take off until 1458. A320 Vh-VQP should arrive at around 1630, 65 minutes tardy.

Wednesday 21 December has JQ677, the 0110 hours redeye from DRW down to MEL not having become airborne until 0248. Arrival is predicted for 0816 hours, 86 late with A320 VH-JQG the aircraft. This aircraft appears to be forming the 1000 to Ballina so it is surprising that an outbound flight ex MEL has not been delayed, as normally one might expect it to be rostered for a reasonably tight turnaround in MEL.

JQ12 from NRT to OOL (B788 VH-VKA) should arrive 47 minutes late at 0712.

Later on 21 December, JQ661 (1300 hours from AYQ to SYD) has had a shocker of a day with takeoff at 1812. A320 VH-VFH should arrive at 2231 instead of 1735, 296 minutes tardy.

The 1910 hours BNE - CNS JQ936 took off at 2020 tonight with VH-JQX: arrival should be at around 2225 hours, 55 minutes late.

On Thursday 22 December, JQ101, the 0100 (!) redeye from DPS to TSV took off at 0141, about 20 minutes late. However on a gate-to-gate basis it is losing time with estimated arrival of A320 VH-VFV at 0824 hours, 39 minutes late.

Continuing with 22 December, JQ522 (the 1940 hours MEL to SYD that took off at 2018 about 20 minutes late, A321 VH-VWQ) shoud arrive at 2038, 33 minutes late.

Also on Friday 23 December, JQ464, the 1000 MEL to BNK took off at 1251 - very late - with arrival of A320 VH-XSJ estimated at 1442, 162 minutes behind time.

I have noted before that when JQ has a 'choice' of which aircraft to delay - assuming that it has two or three A320s sitting in MEL about to depart around 1000 for similar length destinations - almost invariably the BNK route is delayed the most, with its presumably higher percentage of leisure travellers who often, perhaps not prior to Christmas though, are paying cheap fares and hence are low yielding.

JQ7 (1200 'high noon' MEL to SIN, and not one of JQ's more reliable flights) took off at 1256; arrival of B788 VH-VKB should be at around 1745, 55 minutes late.

JQ633 (the non-daily 1025 hours from ADL across to AVV) did not take off until 1303 early this afternoon. VH-VGH (A320) should arrive at about 1508, 178 minutes late.

In further on 23 December, JQ767, the 1720 ADL - SYD that became airborne at 1816 should arrive at approximately 2040, 55 minutes tardy. Aircraft is A320 VH-VQG.

The flagship JQ1 (1635 hours MEL - HNL, B788 VH-VKK) did not take off until 1814 hours, so arrival is not predicted until (same day) 0736 hours, 96 minutes late. This will naturally delay JQ2 back from HNL to MEL on Friday 23.

JQ819 (1455 hours mid afternoon BNE down to SYD) was in the sky at 1657 hours. Its arrival should be at about 1917, 107 minutes late with A320 VH-VGT.

The NTL - MEL flight JQ479, the scheduled 1730 hours took off at 1822; arrival should be at approximately 1949, 39 late with A320 VH-VQR.

'Twas the afternoon before Christmas with JQ564 (1500 hours bang on mid afternoon MEL - BNE that was airborne at 1647 hours) likely to arrive at around 1743, 88 minutes tardy. VH-VQS is the A320.

The 1300 hours AYQ - SYD, JQ661, took off at 1350. In the shape of A320 VH-VGQ it should arrive 36 minutes behind schedule at 1811 in the early evening.

On Christmas Day, JQ943 (1720 hours late afternoon from CNS down to a very hot MEL) took off at 1826. Arrival is predicted for 2251 late tonight, 71 minutes behind the timetable. Aircraft is A320 VH-VQP.

JQ522 (1940 hours from MEL to SYD, A321 VH-VWU) took off at 2133. so arrival should be at around the 2240 hours mark compared with the scheduled 2105 hours.

In the opposite direction, JQ525 (2145 hours from SYD) has been cancelled.

On what is historically one of the busiest days of the year for non-urban passenger operators including our airlines, Monday 26 December, JQ503 (the 0700 hours SYD - MEL that took off at 0755, A320 VH-JQL) is arriving at around 0915, 40 minutes late.

Also a scheduled 0700 hours departure albeit from a different time zone, JQ164, the WLG - MEL took off at 0811 (A320 Vh-VGY) and should pull in to its designated gate at 0937, 42 minutes behind schedule.

Also on 26 December 2016, JQ794 (1000 hours MEL to MCY) took off at 1051. Arrival of A320 Vh-JQL should be at roughly 1206, 46 minutes behind the eight ball.

Ayers Rock airport was closed at 10am local time this morning due to a flooded runway, after receiving 74mm of rain overnight and a further 40mm between 9 and 11am this morning. Flight disruptions include JQ660 SYD-AYQ which turned back to SYD just as it reached the SA border, with the return flight JQ661 cancelled.

That's odd - assuming ASP was open, passengers from JQ660 could be bussed to AYQ provided the roads were open (which of course may not be the case if also flooded.)

The distance by road is approx 450km, if I'm not mistaken. It might also be difficult to organise given it's the holidays period.
