Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

Later on 16 February, the late evening JQ525 (2145 hours from SYD down to MEL, A321 VH-VWX) took off at 2238. Arrival is predicted as 2357 hours, 37 minutes behind schedule.

On Friday 17 February, JQ942, the tourist friendly timed 1100 mid to late morning from MEL up to CNS is not expected to depart until 1350. This is due to JQ941 from CNS to MEL that normally arrives at 1030 being forecast to pull in at 1320. 1350 may therefore be a little optimistic as a MEL departure time.

JQ503, the 0835 arrival ex SYD into MEL should instead arrive at about 0916. The 0915 hours MEL to SYD (JQ506, VH-VQZ) took off at 0951 so arrival is predicted as 1111, 31 late.

UPDATE: JQ781 (0715 hours MCY - SYD) took off at 0851 with A320 VH-VQS.) It is arriving at 1122 hours, 92 late. JQ747, the 1020 SYD - LST has been delayed to an expected departure time of 1150: 1200 'high noon' might be more likely.

With what looks to be a very severe storm approaching SYD as at 1450 on Friday 17 February, mid to late afternoon delays are likely.

The 1245 hours MEL - SYD (JQ512, VH-VFD, an A320) took off at a much delayed 1445 and so in theory should pull in at 1557 hours instead of 1410.

JQ720 (A321 VH-VWT, 1310 hours HBA - SYD that became airborne at 1356) was in a holding pattern at 1518. It is showing as arriving at 1548, 53 late but the weather may further delay it.

The Sydney storms have resulted in many QF and VA aircraft diverting to CBR but JQ787, the 1235 MCY down to SYD on Friday 17 February that was airborne at 1325 hours has instead diverted to NTL, with A320 VH-VGR touching down at about 1633. This compared to its timetabled SYD arrival of 1510 so it will be hours late into SYD.

JQ517, the 1415 hours SYD - MEL was cancelled with JQ521, the 1735 hours on the same route also not running. So is JQ742, the 1835 hours early evening arrival in MEL ex LST.

JQ522, the 1940 hours and JQ524, the 2045 hours from MEL to SYD have been cancelled. With a couple of northbound QFs also cancelled, how on earth on a Friday night do all these passengers get to Sydney this evening?

While conscious that few AFFers use JQ, on-the-spot reports from those who may have been 'adventurous' and decided to patronise JQ would be helpful.

Delays due to SYD storms are continuing well into the evening of 17 February with JQ417, the 1710 hours OOL - SYD not having taken off until 2031. A321 VH-VWY is expected to arrive at about 2255 instead of 1940, 195 minutes late and fortunately just before curfew.

With some aircraft very late on Friday 17 February due to the mid afternoon SYD storms and others out of position as flights were cancelled, JQ501, the Saturday 18 February 0605 hours first of the morning from SYD down to MEL was cancelled.

JQ193 (0625 hours OOL - ZQN, A320 VH-VGT) took off at 0701. Arrival is said to be at 1313 hours, 33 minutes behind.

The 1100 MEL - CNS (JQ942) is predicted to instead depart at 1225. This is because JQ941 from CNS is arriving at 1145 instead of 1030.

Continuing with Saturday 18 February, JQ29 (1435 hours mid afternoon MEL - BKK) should instead depart just after 1730. There is no obvious late running JQi arrival that is responsible.

JQ820 (A320 VH-VFX), the 1840 hours SYD - BNE that took off at 1926 should arrive 35 minutes late at 1945 hours. The midafternoon and later storms in Sydney have not assisted punctuality.

On Sunday 19 February, JQ474, the 1205 hours has been delayed until about 1400 in its MEL departure for NTL.

JQ512 (1245 hours MEL - SYD) has been cancelled.

JQ36 (B788 VH-VKL), the overnight from DPS is arriving in MEL about five hours late at 1258 while JQ30 from BKK (VH-VKK), the scheduled 1030 arrival should come in shortly after JQ36 at around the 1320 mark at gate.

JQ36 is then forming JQ57, the 1430 (retimed presumably by ATC to a USAostyle exact time of 1437) hours to BNE and onwards to DPS. JQ30 has a longer layover before heading north to HNL on JQ1, the 1635 hours.

UPDATE: JQ474 took off at 1659 - A320- VH-VQK. Arrival should be at 1820 instead of 1335, 275 minutes late.

Also on Sunday 19 February, JQ797 (1645 hours MCY - MEL that was airborne at 1721, A320 VH-VGU) should arrive 31 minutes late at 2041.

JQ524 (2045 hours MEL - SYD) has been cancelled.

On Monday 20 February, the early morning JQ972 (0630 hours MEL to PER) is again cancelled. Some months ago an AFF member (bismarck?) brought the regular cancellation of this and the return flight to our attention. Is history repeating itself? Are passengers placed aboard QF flights?

With the strong westerlies in SYD on Monday 20 February (gusting to 46kmh as at 1015 AEDT), although there were some movements on one of the north-south runways a few minutes ago, as at 1015 it looked as if operations may have shifted to Mode 13: use of runway 25 for arrivals from the east and departures to the west.

1000 on a Monday is fairly busy, but once the international departures crank up at around 1100 that is when things may get more interesting and delays may increase somewhat.

UPDATE: JQ816 (1055 SYD - BNE, operated by A320 VH-VQZ) did not become airborne until 1216. It should arrive at about 1235 in the Sunshine State capital, 70 minutes behind schedule.

In further on Monday 20 February, JQ763, the 0900 ADL across to SYD, A320 VH-VFI, took off at 1028 meaning likely arrival at 1243, 78 minutes tardy.

A321 VH-VWT (JQ417, 1710 hours OOL down to SYD that became airborne at 1802) is arriving at 2012, 32 minutes late.

JQ523 (1840 hours from SYD down to MEL that was in the sky at 1948) is operated by A320 Vh-VGJ and should pull in at roughly 2104, 49 minutes tardy.

Tuesday 21 February sees JQ17 (mid afternoon 1525 hours from MEL northwards to HKT) having taken off at a much delayed 1930 hours.

B788 VH-VKB is the aircraft. Arrival is suggested as 2354 rather than 2020 hours.

Wednesday 22 February sees JQ7, not a flight with a good record of punctuality having taken off at 1555 in the afternoon despite a 'high noon' 1200 hours departure time. Arrival of B788 VH-VKB is suggested as 2038 tonight instead of the scheduled 1650, 228 minutes behind time.

On Thursday 23 February JQ58 from BNE down to MEL (B788 VH-VKE), the 0850 hours, took off at 0934 and should arrive at 1247, 32 minutes late. This is the continuation ('tag flight') of the DPS - BNE flight that currently appears to be extending once a week (on Thursdays ex BNE) down to MEL.

From memory fairly recently it was operating this second sector about twice a week. Not sure why the timetable altered. Is one able to make a BNE - MEL booking on this 'international' flight, which is possible would be one of the rare examples now of being able to travel domestically on an international flight? Years ago QF had a number of these, but they have disappeared due to growth in passenger numbers and hence the improving economics of nonstop as opposed to 'triangular' flights.

Close to the SYD 'close of (passenger) business' cutoff on 23 February, JQ524 (A320 VH-VQZ, the 2045 hours MEL - SYD that was in the sky at 2132 is likely to arrive at roughly 2242, 32 late.

Friday 24 February has JQ774 (0830 hours MEL - ADL) becoming airborne at 0907. A332 VH-VFO should pull in at roughly 0950, half an hour late.

JQ700 (A321 VH-VWW, the 0755 HBA - MEL that was airborne at 0824) is arriving at about 0951 hours, 36 minutes behind the eight ball.

JQ603 (VH-VGD), the 0700 from SYD down to AVV has had a poor start to its morning with takeoff at 0846 meaning projected arrival at 1011, 96 minutes late. This will in turn delay JQ632 across from AVV to ADL.

Later today, JQ604, the 1240 hours lunchtime AVV - SYD is not predicted to depart until 1425.

Mich later on Friday 24 February, JQ522, the 1940 hours MEL up to SYD that was airborne at 2027 (A321 VH-VWQ) should arrive at roughly 2140, 35 late. This formed JQ525 (2145 hours SYD - MEL, taking off at 2240) with arrival down south suggested as 0010 hours on Saturday 25, 50 minutes tardy.

The after midnight departure of the JQ MEL-WEL was late (as I heard it pas overhead circa 0140)...

On Sunday 26 February, JQ119 from SYD to NAN, the 0855, took off at 0931 with A320 VH-VFP. Arrival should be at around 1519, 69 minutes tardy.

JQ774 (0830 hours from MEL across to ADL) is in the shape of A320 Vh-JQL and was airborne at 0923. Arrival is predicted as 40 late at an even 1000 hours.
