Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

On a day with stormy weather in and around SYD, JQ518, the Wednesday 22 March 2017 MEL - SYD (A320 VH-VQR, the 2015) took off at 2106 hours. Expected arrival is 49 minutes late at 2229.

On Thursday 23 March, the first of the morning 0600 MEL - HBA (JQ701, A321 VH-VWT) did not become airborne until 0706 hours with arrival predicted as 50 minutes late at 0805.

At least light fog was forecast for MEL on Friday 24 March. JQ771, the 0800 hours arrival ex ADL is likely to arrive at about 0910 hours. JQ700, the 0915 MEL arrival ex HBA is likewise about an hour late while JQ475, the 1000 scheduled arrival also in MEL ex NTL is also similarly late as is JQ507, the 1000 MEL arrival ex SYD. JQ941 from CNS to MEL is expected to arrive at about 1120 this morning, 50 late.

The 1230 hours SYD - MEL, JQ511, has been cancelled as has JQ508, the 1015 hours in the reverse direction.

JQ664, the 0920 hours MEL - AYQ is expected to depart after 1040 hours.

These delays may be challenging to recover from unless JQ cancels a few flights, but as always delays will not be uniform and depend to some extent on turnaround times allowed in the schedules.

The DPS - CNS JQ93 (A320 VH-VFU) is suggested as arriving at about 0810, half an hour behind schedule.

In further on Friday 24 March, JQ504 (scheduled 0805 hours MEL up to SYD, aircraft A321 VH-VWZ) took off at 0920; arrival is predicted for 1026 hours, 61 late. It then looks to be operating JQ721, the timetabled 1035 hours SYD down to HBA, so expect that to depart at around 1110 or later given that this is a larger aircraft so among other tasks alighting and boarding takes longer if the load factors are high.

JQ774 (0830 hours MEL - ADL, A321 VH-VWN) took off at a very late 0959, so arrival should be at around 1043, 83 minutes late. The return flight JQ773, timetabled out at 1000 hours will therefore be delayed until about 1120 in its departure.

UPDATE: JQ721 did not take off from SYD until 1148, landing in HBA at 1324, so JQ722 back to SYD is likely to also be an hour late.

JQ773 did not take off until 1150, landing in MEL at 1304 about 80 late.

Continuing with 24 March, JQ17, the mid afternoon 1525 hours MEL - HKT (B788 VH-VKB) took off at 1559 hours with arrival suggested as half an hour behind at 2050.

A321 VH-VWZ has run late all day with the clincher being a delay on the ground in MEL at around 0900 hours. JQ414 (1610 hours SYD - OOL that was airborne at 1710) should arrive at roughly 1724, 54 late. As a result, JQ417, the 1710 hours OOL - SYD return working can expect to depart at roughly 1805.

On Saturday 25 March, JQ109, the 1145 hours DPS down to PER took off at 1256 (A320 VH-VQU); arrival is estimated 65 late at 1630.

Sunday 26 March has JQ479 (1830 hours NTL - MEL, A320 VH-VFK) having taken off at 1920 about half an hour late. Arrival is estimated as 2047, 37 late.

JQ916 (Monday 27 March MEL - TSV at 1615 hours) has been cancelled.

JQ503 (0700 SYD - MEL that was airborne at 0756 hours, A321 VH-VWZ) should arrive at roughly 0914 hours, 39 minutes tardy.

Also on Monday 27 March, the domestic extension of JQ58 (BNE - MEL, B788 VH-VKF) shpould arrive 38 minutes late at 1213 this afternoon.

On Monday 27 March with Cyclone Debbie, there are many cancellations in and out of TSV (and MKY) but largely CNS and ROK seem OK.

I posted more detailed information in the VA thread so here is a link:

JQ575 (0600 hours first of the morning from BNE to MEL) must have had major problems as liftoff was at 0934. Arrival should be at 1244, 194 minutes late with A320 VH-VQR.

Continuing with Monday 27 March 2017, JQ440 (1700 hours MEL - OOLO that was airborne at 1741, A321 VH-VWW) should pull in to its designated arrival space at 1841, 41 late.

Wednesday 29 March sees JQ15, the 0820 MEL - CNS (and on to KIX) flight that took off at 0935 (B788 VH-VKI) likely to arrive CNS at 1117, 37 minutes late. As the CNS - KIX leg is not scheduled until 1300 hours for its departure, that should be on time.

In further on Wednesday 29 March 2017, JQ518 (the 1615 hours MEL - SYD that was airborne at 1708, A321 VH-VWT) should arrive at roughly 1830, 50 minutes behind schedule.

A320 VH-VFY on the 1830 hours NTL - MEL (JQ479) was in the air at 2129; arrival is suggested as 2108, 58 minutes late.

Continuing with Wednesday 29 March, JQ421 (the 1920 hours OOL down to SYD that was in the sky at 2220) should arrive at 2231 late tonight, 41 minutes behind schedule.

AFF member mannej suggests that the Hamilton Island airport (HTI) is closed until some time in June 2017 due to Cyclone Debbie's trail of destruction.

In contrast, the Hamilton Island Resort Facebook page talks of 'additional flights' on Thursday 30 March. However from what I can see, today's flights are indeed cancelled.

The media (such as News Ltd) is referring to these extra flights but I suspect mannej is correct.

JQ502 (0730 hours MEL - SYD, A320 VH-VGU) did not become airborne until 0827 so arrival has been delayed until a predicted 0943 hours, 48 minutes late.

Continuing with Thursday 30 March, a day of shocking weather in BNE and central Qld as the aftermath of Cyclone Debbie moves south, JQ928, the 0630 hours early morning BNE - CNS that took off at 0746 (A320 VH-VQR) should arrive at 0958 hours, 63 late.

The HBA - SYD JQ718 (A320 VH-VQH) should arrive 39 minutes tardy at 1054.

JQ784, the 0930 SYD - MKY seems to be operating which is a surprise given Cyclone Debbie's damage to that area. However A320 VH-VFK had not taken off by 1057.

JQ408, the Thursday 30 March 1120 hours SYD - OOL (A320 VH-VQH) is arriving at about 1327, 47 minutes late.

The 0940 hours CNS - BNE (JQ931, A320- VH-VQR) took off at 1033 so a 1234 arrival, 44 minutes tardy, is predicted.

VH-VFK on JQ785 (1035 hours BNE - SYD that took off at 1221 hours) should arrive 65 minutes at 1420.

JQ564 (1435 hours MEL to OOL) and JQ438 (1505 hours MEL - BNE) have been cancelled. Wild weather continues to lash much of coastal Queensland south of Mackay.

A320 VH-VGT on JQ565 (1230 BNE - MEL that was airborne at 1321 this afternoon) is an expected 35 late with arrival at 1635.

JQ411 (1220 hours OOL - SYD) has A320 VH-VQH and should arrive at roughly 1541, 51 minutes late.

JQ528 (1915 hours evening flight from MEL to SYD) has also been cancelled.

The 1250 hours MEL - SYD, JQ512 (A321 VH-VWZ) took off more than 90 minutes late at 1413 this afternoon, so arrival in the mainland harbour city has become 1617 hours, 122 late. Earlier today it was the aircraft that ran JQ506, the 1040 hours scheduled arrival in SYD to form JQ509, the scheduled 1045 hours back to MEL. It is impossible to turn a large RPT aircraft around in five minutes: it isn't a suburban train, tram, bus or ferry, or country train, and making matters worse, JQ506 was about 40 minutes late, and then had an extended stay in SYD to lose further time.

JQ's timekeeping on the MEL - SYD - MEL route, Australia's busiest by far, is abysmal.

Continuing with Thursday 30 March, JQ607 (1525 hours SYD - AVV, A320 VH-VFV) was not airborne until 1736, so arrival is predicted for 1815 hours, 75 minutes late.

The 1730 hours JQ943 from CNS down to MEL, A321 VH-VWW, took off at 1926 hours with arrival suggested as 2333 instead of 2155.

JQ487 (1905 hours BNE - NTL that was airborne at 2034, A320 VH-VGF) look like pulling in to the port of coals at 2234, 74 minutes past its bedtime.

In further on Thursday 30 March, JQ789 (the 1925 hours MCY down to SYD that was airborne at 2010) should arrive at 2251 instead of the timetabled 2205. Aircraft is A320 VH-VGU.

The evening TSV - MEL JQ917 that was airborne at 2037 should arrive at 0035 hours on Friday 31 instead of 2250 on Thursday late evening. A320 Vh-VFK has the task.
