Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

Also on Monday 10 April, JQ476 (1630 hours MEL - NTL that took off at 1734, A320 VH-VGP) should arrive at around 1849, 49 late.

The Tuesday 11 April JQ522 (1815 hours MEL - SYD that was airborne at 1921, A321 VH-VWZ) should be at its designated arrival tarmac spot at 2034, 54 late.

The evebing LST - MEL, JQ844, A320 VH-VQR is about 67 minutes late with suggested arrival at 2027.

JQ29, the Tuesday 11 April 1305 hours MEL - BKK has been delayed overnight to an expected 1045 hours Wednesday 12 departure ex MEL.

JQ26, the scheduled 1030 hours Wednesday 12 MEL arrival ex NRT and CNS has been cancelled.

Wednesday 12 April sees JQ956, the 1530 hours SYD - CNS having taken off at 1625 with a 50 minute late, 1930 hours arrival suggeted for A320 VH-VFQ.

JQ473, the Thursday 13 April 0610 hours NTL to MEL that was airborne at 0716 (A320 VH-VFI) should arrive at 0846, 56 minutes late. In turn, this will delay JQ705, the 0825 MEL - HBA to about 0925 in its departure.

A320 VH-VGY on JQ771 (0610 hours early morning from ADL across to MEL) was still just taxiing at 0724 ADL time, so it will not arrive before 0910 in MEL, an hour late. This will delay JQ774, the 0840 hours back to ADL that may be unable to depart MEL until about 0950.

JQ575, the 0600 BNE down to MEL was airborne at 0726 (A320 VH-VQW) so arrival is predicted for 0935 hours, 65 late. As a result, JQ733, the 0900 MEL - LST should depart at around 1015 hours.

JQ503 from SYD to MEL is predicted to be about 75 minutes late into the southern capital at 0950 hours. The 0915 hours scheduled arrival in MEL JQ700 should be about 50 minutes late, while JQ433 from OOL and JQ945 from CNS, both down to MEL are a forecast approximately 40 minutes late. JQ561 (the 0715 BNE - MEL that took off at 0756 with A320 VH-VQK) is expected to be similarly late, and other flights are also adversely affected.

While there had been light fog predicted for MEL, QF and VA do not appear to be quite as badly affected so perhaps JQ had a failure of its boarding pass software and had to manually check passengers in, but it could also be the fog and hence ATC commands to stay on the ground at other airports until assured of a slot in to MEL.

Whatever, since Holy Thursday is one of the busier days for our domestic airlines, it's a terrible start to the day for Australia's least punctual major domestic airline.

Early afternoon on Thursday 13 April, JQ765, the 1124 takeoff from ADL that had been scheduled to push back at 1030 (A320 VH-VGY) should arrive 37 minutes late at 1327.

JQ707 (A320 VH-JQX, the 1030 hours MEL - HBA that did not take off until 1156) is forecast to arrive at about 1304, 79 minutes tardy.

JQ513 (the SYD down to MEL 1245 hours that was not airborne until 1350, A321 VH-VWQ) should be at its destination at 1514, 54 late.

The 14 April 2030 hours JQ607 (AVV - SYD) did not become airborne until 2117; arrival of A320 VH-VGT should be at roughly 2227 hours late tonight, 32 late.

Northbound JQ570 from MEL up to BNE (the 2020 hours) took off at 2110; arrival of VH-JQL should be at 2303 tonight, 33 minutes tardy.

JQ802, the Easter Saturday 15 April 1215 hours from MEL up to MCY has been cancelled as has JQ803, the 1730 hours arrival in MEL ex MCY. The 0700 hours SYD - MEL JQ503 is identically affected.

Good Friday's JQ1, the 1550 hours MEL up to HNL appears to have been delayed overnight until 0900 on Easter Saturday in its departure. One hopes that travellers who were promised overnight accommodation that they had to arrange receive cash and not the Jetstar vouchers of which a letter writer to 'The Age' and 'SMH' Traveller section is complaining of today.

Esater Sunday 16 April sees JQ944 (the 0610 hours early morning MEL - CNS that took off at 0708, A321 VH-VWU) suggested as arriving at 1011 hours, 41 minutes behind the schedule.

A320 VH-VQL on the 0615 hours MEL - NTL had a bad start to its day with it not in the sky until 0803; arrival should be at around 0922 hours, 97 minutes late.

Not only will JQ476 be late on the way back down to MEL but JQ509, the 1045 hours SYD - MEL and JQ512, the 1250 hours MEL - SYD have been cancelled. Later in the day, JQ521, the 1600 hours SYD - MEL has also been cancelled as has JQ522, the 1815 hours MEL - SYD, continuing JQ's abysmal performance on Australia's busiest air route where all airlines combined annually carry in excess of 3.5 million passengers each way.

Such cancellations are often the only way a particular aircraft can become punctual again during the day, although with some days busier than others, turnaround times can vary markedly from very tight to extremely generous, even with JQ. At other times, the cancellations are related to what AFF member Quickstatus amusingly and euphemistically terms 'demand management.'

Later on Sunday 16 April, A320 VH-VGT on JQ805 (1800 hours MCY down to SYD) took off at 1935 with arrival suggested as 92 minutes behind at 2112 mid evening.

Easter Monday 17 April has JQ730 (0840 LST up to MEL that was airborne at 0905, A320 VH-VFH) likely to arrive at roughly 1015, half an hour behind schedule.

In further on 2017's Easter Monday, JQ7, a flight with an extremely poor timekeeping record, the 1110 hours MEL - SIN took off at 1301 with B788 VH-VKF. SIN arrival is predicted at 1840 hours, 110 minutes behind schedule.

Sunday's MEL-HNL (JQ1) was cancelled (pax were told due to lightning strike to aircraft).

Pax notified by text at 430am. Friend was awake, called JQ immediately and was re-routed same day (Sunday) via SYD.

Others on the flight who awoke to the message at 0630 were not so lucky in terms of alternatives offered. One cancelled trip completely, one paid $2800 to fly another carrier (I assume Hawaiian), and another flies Tuesday.

So same issue on the return (Sat 13th).

HNL-MEL cancelled with about 10hrs notice, friend was able to be re-accommodated on HNL-SYD and wound up in MEL about 6 hours later than planned (booked). Was being pressured to "stay an extra night and travel next day" but wanted to be home Sat night so was there for easter egg hunt with kids sunday AM (!), so chose the via SYD option than eventually saw her at end destination 0100 Sun (instead of 1900 Sat). Comment: "never flying Onestar again"

Looking at Melburnian1's recent posts, JQ seem to have major long haul issues at the moment (last 1-2 weeks). Is there an aircraft out of service?

docjames, JQ B788 VH-VKI has not done anything since arriving in CNS at about 0505 hours very early today (Tuesday 18) on JQ26 but I cannot definitively state that it is out of service: it might just be a lengthy, planned layover.

I may have missed something but the rest of the fleet looks to all be operating.

On Wednesday 19 April MEL is experiencing some fog with a few QantasLink flights delayed in their arrival (by being held at other airports) and TT426 ex PER having seemingly diverted to ADL.

The 0700 hours SYD - MEL JQ503 (A321 VH-VWY) took off at 0748 and so nominally is expected 40 minutes late into MEL at 0915 hours, but with quite a few aircraft holding on approach, this delay could blow out a bit more.

JQ730, the 0945 hours scheduled MEL arrival ex LST is estimated to arrive at just after 1030.

Also on 19 April with the smallish fog in MEL, JQ507 (0710 hours SYD down to MEL, A320 VH-VWT) took off at 0807 with arrival expected at 0924, 39 minutes tardy.

The next southbound, JQ509 (1045 hours departure, A320 VH-VQG that took off at 1131) should arrive 31 late at 1251 early this afternoon.

Much later on 19 April, JQ518 is continuing the JQ tradition of poor timekeeping on the MEL - SYD route with this northbound becoming airborne at 1759 compared with its timetabled 1615 hours pushback. Arrival of A321 VH-VWU should be at 1917, 97 minutes tardy.

JQ220, the 2215 hours arrival in MEL ex ZQN has been cancelled as has JQ628 (the early evening 1915 hours timetabled MEL to SYD northbound.) Southbound, JQ519, the 1700 hours SYD - MEL has also received the order of the royal boot.

Continuing with Thursday 20 April, JQ913, the 1340 hours TSV - SYD that took off at 1419 hours (A320 VH-VQA) should arrive at about 1642, 32 minutes behind schedule.

The SYD - BNK northbound JQ460 was airborne 55 minutes after its timetabled 1500 hours pushback. Hence A320 VH-JQL should arrive at 1654 this afternoon, 39 minutes late.

JQ609 (1825 hours evening SYd down to AVV that was airborne at 1914, A320 VH-VFN) should arrive at rough;y 2034, 34 minutes late.

JQ917 (1945 hours TSV - MEL that became airborne at 2021) should arrive 32 minutes late at 2322 with A320 VH-VFK.

Friday 21 April sees the 0655 hours SYD across to ADL, JQ752 (A320 VH-VQK) not having become airborne until 0804, so arrival is suggested as 0932, 57 minutes late. JQ763 from ADL back to SYD is showing on the Adelaide Airport website as departing at 0950, 40 late but that is somewhat optimistic.

The 0700 hours SYD - MEL (A321 VH-VWX, JQ503) was not airborne until 0739 hours, so arrival is likely in a wet Melbourne at about 0911, 36 minutes late due partly to a 'hold' above Mt Buller, Vic. This aircraft then was employed operating JQ506, the 0915 hours MEL - SYD that took off at 1009; arrival is likely at 1117, 37 late.

JQ508 (1015 hours MEL - SYD) has been cancelled.

The 0715 hours from OOL down to MEL, JQ433 (A320 VH-VQJ) was not in the sky until 0819; arrival should be at 1024, 44 minutes late.
