Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

The late in from DPS VH-VKG should (in theory) have had sufficient time in MEL to depart on time with JQ17, the 1450 hours to HKT but this was not the case. It took off at 1550 and should arrive an hour late at 2145 mid evening Thai time.

Monday 22 May 2017 sees JQ508 (1015 hours MEL - SYD) not having become airborne until 1212. A320 VH-JQX should arrive at around 1317, 97 minutes late.

JQ7 was the 1200 'high noon' MEL - SIN until the onset of the northern (hemisphere) summer timetable and has not had a good reputation for timekeeping. It is now scheduled to depart at 1110, but on Monday 22 May it took off at a delayed 1202 hours, with arrival suggested an hour late at 1745. Aircraft is B788 VH-VKG.

JQ472, the early morning 0615 hours MEL - NTL on Sunday 28 May had to divert to SYD - was there fog? It arrived in SYD at about 0750 and departed at around 0945 hours.

As a result JQ475, the 0815 hours NTL - MEL did not take off until 1057 with arrival expected at around 1224 hours, 149 minutes later than the scheduled 0955 hours. Aircraft is A320 VH-VFH.

JQ946, the 1020 hours mid morning MEL - CNS was not airborne until 1140. A320 VH-VFL should arrive at 1453, 73 minutes late.

The 1030 hours MEL - HBA (JQ707, A320 Vh-VFY) was in the sky at a delayed 1145 hours. It should arrive at roughly 1249 hours, 64 minutes late.

On Thursday 1 June 2017 JQ472, the 0615 hours MEL - NTL took off at 0725 hours with arrival of A320 VH-VFT expected 58 minutes late at 0843.

A321 VH-VWZ on JQ944, the 0610 hours MEL - CNS was airborne at 0707 with arrival suggested as 1017, 47 late.

Not sure if these delays are related to the overnight MH128 hijacking attempt that saw significant two hour plus delays to flights such as CX178 and SQ218, reported separately under the relevant airline cancellation and delay threads.

Continuing with Thursday 1 June 2017, JQ437, the 1250 hours OOL - MEL did not become airborne until 1432. A321 VH-VWT has the task, and should arrive in the southern capital at 1650, 95 minutes late.

A320 VH-VQP, the 1350 hours from MCY down to SYD did not reach for the sky until 1620 hours. It should pull in to its designated SYD airport position at 1744, 134 minutes past the allotted.

The 0725 hours Friday 2 June 2017 JQ456 from SYD up to BNK took off at 0814 hours witrh A320 VH-VQP. Arrival should be at 0920 hours, 40 late.

Later on Friday 2 June 2017, JQ608, the 1735 hours late afternoon AVV up to SYD (A320 VH-JQL) took off at 1903; arrival should be at about 2017, 77 minutes late.

Earlier in the day it had only been about 10 minutes late on JQ604, arriving in SYD ex AVV at about 1415. However it did not take off on JQ607, the 1525 hours SYD - AVV until 1709, more than an hour late.

Its final task tonight looks to be JQ672, the 2030 hours SYD - DRW so that may be unable to commence pushing back until around 2050.

Continuing with Saturday 3 June, JQ930 (0840 hours BNE - CNS, A320 VH-VFP) took off at 1012. Arrival should be at 1127, 82 minutes tardy.

There is some fog in Melbourne suburbs on Sunday 4 June, but it does not seem to be affecting flights at MEL - at least not at 0730 hours.

However JQ731, the 0650 hours MEL - LST has been delayed to an expected departure of 0745, while JQ560, the 0730 hours MEL - BNE is predicted to depart at around 0810 hours. There are no inbound flights to MEL that are late, so these aircraft may have overnighted in MEL.

On Monday 5 June, LST may be fogbound as JQ731, the 0650 hours MEL - LST that took off at 0708 (A320 VH-VFQ) is returning to MEL at about 0936 hours on the ground. It had done a couple of holding pattern racetrack-looking circuits near LST so this may be a case of an 'unexpected' amount of fog swirling in, the sort that costs airlines big dollars because it was not forecast.

I gather fog is difficult to forecast with complete accuracy even with all the aids weather bureaus have in the 21st century.

Someone may care to explain why JQ731 could not have diverted to HBA. It seemed to be busy (as far as Tasmanian aviation goes!) at the time, but would not diverting to HBA, a two hour or so drive from LST, make it easier for passengers and freight alike on board?

JQ745, the 0710 hours SYD - LST that was airborne at 0751 has also done a few circuits of LST but may arrive 55 late at 0955. A320 VH-VQC has the task.

UPDATE: JQ745 landed in LST more than 70 minutes late at 1007.

JQ731, the 0650 hours MEL to LST that originally took off at 0708 on 5 June before returning to MEL due to fog again took off at 1242 bound for LST. The aircraft is now VH-VFY. It's mysterious that JQ swapped A320s as this means having to unload and reload all luggage, freight and any other items such as catering. I don't think JQ carry Australia Post mail though.

The 1520 hours MEL up to SYD on Tuesday 6 June, JQ514 (A321 VH-VWN) was airborne at 1647, more than an hour late. It should arrive at about 1754, 71 minutes behind the timetable.

In further on Tuesday 6 June, JQ1, the 1550 hours from MEL to HNL is instead predicted to depart at 2230 hours this evening. Inevitably, JQ2 will also be delayed.

An extremely wet Wednesday 7 June 2017 in SYD sees JQ810, the first of the JQ morning flights from SYD to BNE (the 0605 hours, A320 VH-VGF) not having taken off until 0721. Arrival should be at about 0843 hours, 68 late.

The 0710 hours JQ761 from ADL across to SYD did not take off until 0702, with arrival of A320 VH-VQW likely at approximately 1022 hours, 52 minutes late.

JQ502 (A320 VH-VGZ, the 0735 hours MEL - SYD that did not become airborne until 0931) should arrive at 1047, 107 minutes late. In contrast, the 0915 hours departure from MEL JQ506 (A321 VH-VWW) is predicted to only be 1 minutes late into SYD at a gate arrival time of 1051 hours.

JQ1D, as it became, did not depart until about 1200 'high noon' on Wednesday 7 June, 20 hours late. VH-VKG is the tardy B788.

The 0915 hours MEL - DPS on Thursday 8 June is not expected to depart until about 1200, probably as a result of this late unning JQ1 and returning JQ2.

Continuing with Wednesday 7 June, JQ785, the late morning 1140 hours MCY down to SYD took off at 1401 this afternoon. A320 VH-VGZ should arrive at 1535, 135 minutes tardy.

JQ37 (scheduled as the 1640 hours SYD - DPS) took off at 1741 this afternoon; arrival should be at 2159 hours, 54 minutes late. B788 VH-VKK has the task.

The 1510 hours OOL down to MEL, JQ439 was in the sky at 1653. Arrival of A321 VH-VWX is predicted as 1856 hours, 81 minutes tardy.

JQ521, the 1600 southbound SYD - MEL is continuing the JQ tradition of shocking punctuality on this busy route with takeoff of A321 VH-VWW at 1748. It should pull in to its gate at roughly 1902, 87 minutes behind the eight ball.

The 1525 hours SYD - AVV (JQ607) is worse, with takeoff not until 1753 hours meaning arrival of A320 VH-VFK at an expected 1906 hours, 126 minutes late.

The BNK - SYD JQ461, the 1650 hours (A320 VH-VQC) was airborne at 1806; arrival is predicted as 68 minutes late at 1923 hours.

Also on 7 June, JQ609 (1825 hours SYD down to AVV, A320 VH-VGF) took off at 1959 hours. Arrival should be at 2040, 40 minutes late.

JQ776 (2110 hours MEL - ADL) has been cancelled.

This has not been helping:

JQ515, the early afternoon 1350 hours SYD - MEL did not take off until 2045 hours tonight, almost a seven hour delay. Arrival of A320 VH-VGZ should be at 2154 instead of 1525, 389 minutes late.

The 2030 AVV - SYD, JQ610 (A320 VH-VGF) took off at 2149; arrival is predicted for 2257, 62 minutes late. The earlier JQ608 (VH-VFK) arrived SYD ex AVV at 2231, 211 minutes late.

JQ754 (2010 hours LST- BNE that was in the sky at 2131, VH-VQF) should pull in at 2352, 67 minutes late.

The 1930 hours from OOL down to SYD (JQ419, A320 VH-JQL) took off at 2144, so arrival is predicted as 2301, 121 minutes late. However it should land at 2156 which is the important time for curfew breaking purposes.

Thursday 8 June 2017 saw JQ472 (0615 hours MEL - NTL, A320 VH-VGO) having taken off at 0737. Arrival is occurring at 0854, 69 minutes late.

UPDATE: On its return flight, the above aircraft (JQ475, 0825 NTL - MEL) took off after a quick turnaround at 0932 hours, meaning likely arrival at 1109, 64 late.
