Latitude 28 Degrees $8 per month starting September 2024

Just for reference, although my cancellation is process - I was still able to redeem and park the Flexiroam eSIM. May as well...... Just need to remember to use it on my next trip, if my normal SIM doesn't include it (I have free roaming in 71 countries anyway).

Another member of the dead wood brigade, I cleared out earlier today, and just got the email to confirm closure (no attempt to retain, so obviously targeted, as others have noted above). Member since Wizard. ...
I received notice today. It is general and.not targeted.

FWIW, I have put ~5K on (only) international purchases through mine over the last 12 months. This savd $150 on international fees at the expense of little more than 5K reward points I otherwise may have had.

I am au fait with the direct debit process.

FWIW, I have put ~5K through mine over the last 12 months, 99% on international purchases, saving $150 on international fees at the expense of a little more than 5K reward points.

And, if you value those reward points at ≈$0.01 per point, 5,000 reward points are worth $50.

That's why so many people held a no points, no Interntional fee credit card, because it made economic sense.

When CBA introduced CBA Ultimate with a $2,500 per month spend to avoid the monthly fee, and no international fees, and 3 points per dollar for OS spend, it seemed perfect.

At $4,000 per month to avoid the monthly fee, I'm about to cancel, as there are a few months a year I will struggle to avoid the fee.

It's only by clever timing of flexible purchases that I have managed so far, and it's too much trouble, when as you so accurately point out, the international fees saved are worth far more than the points earned, and if I switch my international purchases to a fee free card like BankWest, and my points earning to HSBC Premier for local purchases, I have the best of both worlds.

Likewise, I suspect Amex's base exchange rate would differ from the Visa/MC rate before they slapped you with their 3% FX fee.
Nope, Amex charge the spot rate. I’d be surprised if diners didn’t tbh.
They then add their 3.5 IIRC, but the rate is honest

Have you looked into changing to the CBA Smart Awards, it only needs $2000 spend per month to avoid the monthly fee.

Latitude - suffers well publicised hack likely putting all of its products ‘on the nose’ for new customers.
- decides to piss off existing CC customers by adding an $8/month fee leading many to cancel.

🤷‍♂️

With this marketing genius, have they been taken over by Rex or something?

I'd doubt it.

I had 90% of the bookings for my last trip just completed secured against a cancelled credit card.

It made no difference.

I couldn't remove the card from AirBnB, even for fully paid bookings, even though it was cancelled.

I had a couple of hotels which asked me if I wanted to charge my bill (for a booked, but not paid for) booking to the cancelled card, and I said no, I'd like to use a different card, and charged my stay to a new card (tapped my phone).

Two hotels even asked for a physical card to take an imprint for a security deposit. On each occasion, I told them I didn't have one on me, but they could use the card they had on record (the cancelled card) and they were both happy with that.

So, I know that having had to cancel a card because it was defrauded, and having tried to change bookings against that card, and been unable (and worried), I need a) not have worried, and b) should have considered going all rock-star and trashing the TV, since they accepted their record of a cancelled card for a security deposit.
YMMV :) I had the police called on me by BA at checkin at LHR because my card had been reported stolen! It was done very discretely, they asked me to wait while they checked entry requirements for Hungary. Next thing, the police were there! I’d been off loaded by then. Managed to get reinstated with club europe upgrade.

But it’s made me aware that different systems can sometimes handle things differently. A closed account may not allow a hotel authorisation for example, leading to loss of booking.

Cancelled ours.
We also have the BankWest fee free card for foreign transactions. Annoyingly they are removing their insurance from September

Didn't take any thought at all.

Cancelled.
Me too. Been thinking for some time that it was too good to be true. Only remaining option for free O/S transactions is Macquarie Black Visa (free as part of a home loan package). But they've recently advised they will no longer earn Qantas points!

Well, I am blaming BA for that 🤣, but point well taken.

Absolutely - yet that's the position that I found myself in for Iceland... In general my approach is to book directly unless Booking dot com is significantly cheaper, for example. So most were booked directly.

Many hotels in Iceland outsource through the same third party.

Most terms allowed them to charge you 7 days to 48 hours before arrival for a non refundable booking.

None allowed, or were even interested in updating the stored card ahead of time when I advised them that it had been cancelled.

Only one actually attempted the charge (the worst place we stayed, as it turned out) and contacted us with a new payment request to secure our booking.

So I understand your dilemma.

Not all hotels 😉

I should. Though I suspect that HSBC Premier and Bank West Platinum will form the no fees high points no stress combo going forwards.

I have a trip planned for October to the US and I might keep it until I get back. Its handy to have a separate card for little purchases last year used the card on the New York subway tap and go made it easy.

No brainer - Like everyone cancelled - wife and I had for 14 years - I have BW which I use and Citibank rolled me over to NAB which I kept - I like the BW one - it comes up instantly with transaction in local currency and then converted amount - easy to keep track while travelling that it is the correct amount
