My wife was in the same boat in that we are silent electors and not on the roll and the landline is in my name.
All you need to do in that circumstance is download a form from the website and take it and your ID (Driver's Licence is fine) to the Post office who will sight your ID and scan the barcode on the form. Within 24 hours you will receive an email advising you have been activated.
