And that's how you waste 220k velocity points !!!
Sorry to hear what happened but I'm not surprised at the VA incompetence.

Don't let this go. Your parents didn't fly as ticketed. Try to get the points back. There have been a few suggestions in the posts above. The Customer Airline Advocate could be an option but they don't have any power to make/change decisions but can mediate.

Good luck.

I'm noticing that some decisions are lazy and tardy as I go into a hectic travel schedule; turning right instead of left, picking the wrong line, taking the wrong route, even the case of sitting in the wrong seat. Fatigue or lack of care, I think a combination of both.......

Didn't collect the express pass off QF9, got to the guy in purple who wouldn't budge, no pass - get over to the other line...

30 minutes later, clear Customs with the other 480 pax...

HenleyBeach - why not PM the VA Rep here? They can be slow to respond but do. Or Tweet them - I've always got quick responses from them there especially as a FF.

I bought a Japan rail pass then now realised it's cheaper for me to buy individual tickets *face papm*

I priced out all our definite train trips individually and compared the total to the cost of two JR passes. The difference was marginal, but I went with the passes because they offer more flexibility for spur of the moment day trips.

At least I think.

I was booking accommodation for a couple of things maybe as part of an Accor promo and ended up booking Accor accommodation in Queenstown as well for later in the year and used points - then realised it was outside the promo period so I had probably just used points on a full price booking:(. Gah!!

They saw the free 220k points and the potential to resell the seat at non discount prices or upgrading a passenger for even more points
Right up to the gate the airline could have reissued the tickets but decided not to. Gate ticket reissues happen all the time.

Again an example of an airline hiding behind the rules rather than doing the right thing by the customer.

At the very least VA should refund the points for the return sector as that was cancelled at least 24 hours prior to the ex Europe to ADL flights. I still believe the pax should receive all 220K points back because they never failed to turn up for the flights booked.

It would be interesting to hear from the actual international carrier ie EY via Twitter etc as to what their policy is on names matching passports and whether they would accept Sue on the ticket if it's Susan in the passport? I do wonder how different the outcome would've been had pax been travelling ex SYD/BNE/MEL where the EY ground handler would be doing the checkin not VA.

Would VA in ADL refuse to uplift pax solely for a domestic flight eg ADL/SYD because of the name variation or was it because of the onward international flight? Did VA attempt to contact EK to find out if that was the case or just take it upon themselves to be judge, jury and executioner?

I did the same analysis and ended up going with separate tickets, as I wouldn't feel obliged to be stuck to the JR network. But each to their own, especially depending on the destination.

It would appear from one of the OP's posts that VA did contact EY.

They said virgin in Adelaide were very nice and did everything , they rang velocity and asked them to change her name but they said they need 24 hours , they rang Etihad in Sydney to see if they will allow it but they said no. Mum said they had mangers in Sydney and Brisbane on the phone, they tried everything . A hard lesson to learn. I wondered how mum had gotten away with the velocity account only being sue and not Susan for so long . They have only flown domestically with virgin and after looking at her car license it says SUE. So up until now , when she has checked in domestically she has shown her car license as ID. I just wished I checked the name when I booked the ticket through velocity when it pre filled her name in.

Made hotel booking at the Pullman Olympic Park for the Aust V Scotland game in June. We always stay overnight when we attend something at Homebush.

Presale game tickets went on sale and I see "Allianz Stadium Moore Park" as the location, not ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park.

Had to bite $80 in change fee to another date for another event we are attending at Olympic Park.

There has got to be a way to escalate the issue toward getting the points back. Too much 'money' to simply let go IMHO.

I would love to be able to contact someone at velocity , unfortunately the only options are a phone call to some random velocity rep or some generic email address which you will get a generic response ! My parents don't care even if they have to pay something .
henleybeach,

Please check your PMs.

I have been in touch with someone in VA management and he has offered to get this looked into.

More information when it is available.

Made an abolsute doozy and it was for someone else's travel
Booked flights (QF93), wrote up summary of flights and times. Saw flight time change notification but apparently didnt update summary (could swear that I did but perhaps didn't save the change).
Despite having copy of updated eticket, passenger missed flight by relying on my summary.

Yikes, That would have been an awkward conversation to have

Relatives rocked up to take QF9. Slight problem - expired passport.

3 days and great expense later, they arrived for rebooked QF9 flight (now in Y instead of Y+ due non-availability), flight gets cancelled.

Finally made it to LHR Sunday (plan had been Wednesday). Lucky it's a 5 week trip with few commitments in the first week!
