Malaysia Airlines to join Oneworld alliance

Note that some codes are not earners including Z which I think is discount business.

Strange place MH, and I find their fare basis codes and pricing hard to comprehend. According to EF, on my flight DEL-BNE rt there are two Z fares quoted, with identical fare basis codes. This is the same also with the DJC buckets. There is a reference to a mysterious 'footnote N' in the fare rules which sometimes applies and may explain the difference.

When I look up MH's website, I find the same fare I booked a month ago (into D class), but a new 'business promo' has also appeared for a few thousand rupees more. I wonder is that books into Z

Anyway you have one reasonably happy camper - looks like I get the SCs and the higher earn rate:) for a very reasonable fare...

Cheers skip

PS. Love this comment from Bangalore Aviation's photo essay - http://www.bangaloreaviation.com/20...n=Feed:+BangaloreAviation+(Bangalore+Aviation)
There is a genuine warmth and affection between Alan and AJ which was visible throughout the day.
Did it look like that to you?

I have seen various commentary, incluing on the OW website, referring to all (?) OW airlines offering a double points promotion for travelling MH for a limited period, with some references to needing to register, and some references to tickets booked after the join date.

Has anyone found any reference to that in relation to QFF? They appear to be maintaining a stony silence re MH on their website...

Cheers again

To celebrate the launch of Malaysia Airlines joining oneworld[SUP][SUP]®[/SUP][/SUP] and the Qantas Frequent Flyer program, for a limited time we're offering Qantas Frequent Flyers the opportunity to earn double points[SUP]*[/SUP] on eligible[SUP]^[/SUP] flights and fares with Malaysia Airlines. Find out more about Malaysia Airlines.

What do I have to do?

  • Travel on an eligible Malaysia Airlines flight and fare between 15 February and 15 April 2013
  • Ensure your Qantas Frequent Flyer number is entered into your booking
Then you'll earn double the number of points that you would ordinarily earn for your travel - it's that simple.
Important information:
You must be a Qantas Frequent Flyer member to earn and redeem points. A joining fee may apply. Membership and the earning and redemption of points are subject to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program Terms and Conditions.
* To be eligible for this offer you must travel on an eligible flight and fare on Malaysia Airlines between 15 February and 15 April 2013. Bookings are subject to availability. Points are earned on eligible flights with a Malaysia Airlines flight number on your ticket. Codeshare flights operated by airlines other than oneworld Alliance Airlines are not permitted. Bonus points will not be awarded on connecting domestic flights on the Qantas network. Your Qantas Frequent Flyer number must be recorded at the time of booking. Qantas may extend the offer. Bonus points may take up to six weeks after completion of your travel to be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account.
^ Restrictions apply to the earning of points with Malaysia Airlines. See the Airline Earning Table for eligible flights and earning classes. Qantas Frequent Flyer points may not be earned on Qantas & Partner Classic Seat Awards, some fare types or on some oneworld alliance or airline partner flights. The total points you earn depends on how far you travel and your cabin class.

There is no mention on the QF site saying you need to register, other then having your QFF number on the booking, and nothing saying it is only for new bookings.

This would imply that only new bookings are eligible:
"Your Qantas Frequent Flyer number must be recorded at the time of booking."

Still looks promising. My QFF number was entered when I rebooked with new dates a couple of days ago (and ticked reissued with a new ticket number) although there is nothing on the ticket to indicate that. Lets see what happens.

Will be interesting to see if MH bookings appear on the QFF 'my bookings' profile. I suspect not because of the obcure reservations system they use. Cheers skip

When I booked mine a few weeks ago the TA included my QFF number and as it is part of QF and MH booking it all appears on my QFF Booking page. I will wait and see in mid feb whether it all works, hopefully it does as it they are J flights SIN to KUL return, so worth 40 SC's each way.

You could show them your card when you check-in as well. Make sure it's there and all.

My understanding is that you will get the SCs on MH for a flight taken on or after Feb 1st (all J booking class (CDJZ) are eligible for SC earn). I'm just not sure about the double points promotion.

Interesting. Do you have a 6 digit booking reference for this booking? You don't get that with a booking made direct with MH

If it was made by the TA chances are they are using an Amadeus based GDS, hence the flights showing in the QFF profile

Isn't this normal when there is a QF sector in the booking, regardless of the GDS used?

I can't wait to check out the MH F lounge in Kul!....(will be in April)

Will report on it in three weeks ;)

Note that according to the website, the Santai Spa is not free of charge.

The Platinum Lounge has slumber / day rooms, which could be quite useful in some cases.

There appears to be a Business Class Lounge, a First Class Lounge and then the Platinum Lounge. Could be an access set up a bit like LH at FRA (viz. FCT), or BA at LHR (viz. CCR).
Is it written somewhere that OWE (and QF Plats) can use the MH Plat lounge at KLIA?

I read somewhere over the past few days - AusBT article maybe? - that yes, OWE can use the Platinum Suite in KUL.

Can confirm that Mrs K used the MH F lounge at KL yesterday on a Y ticket. "nice but not as good as SYD F lounge"

She is OWE.

That's great, though according to the oneworld access policy, that should be a given.

The MH Platinum Lounge at KUL is a separate lounge to the Business and First Class lounges. It's smaller and meant to be a step up (as it would suggest) from the First Class Lounge. Access is normally only for MH Enrich Platinum members. Jury's not quite agreed on whether oneworld Emerald has access.

Skip,

Yes I have a 6 digit PNR and a different 6 digit QF flight ref and a different 6 digit MH flight ref.

Oz-Mark,

The itinerary from the TA is showing that my QF number has been advised to both QF and MH, but I will make sure when I am getting the boarding passes that it is recording it on the MH flights.

To be honest I am not to worried about the double points as it is only 185 points each way from Sin to Kul, I know I shouldn't say that on here  but even double it is only 370 each leg. I am more concerned to make sure I get the 40 SC's for each leg. As the 80 SC's might be the difference at the end of my year with how close I am to the 2400SC total, as this trip will get me over the line for WP renewal and I have just over 500 SC's booked in for a holidays in May and I have approx 200 more to book in trips before the end of April, and then it will depend on how many more work trips I need to do before the end of July as to how close I am to the total, 1-200 it might be worth a JASA, 400+ it would probably not be worth it, for the 50K QFF points.

I agree, and will be trying to get in week after next, it could be like BAs Concorde Room etc :)

I read somewhere over the past few days - AusBT article maybe? - that yes, OWE can use the Platinum Suite in KUL.

Its not listed yet on the OW site, although as I pointed out in another thread the lounge listings also state the RJ lounge is a third party site operated by MH

Has anyone had success booking a QF classic award on MH? KUL is still not listed in the classic award destinations list but, strangely, comes up in the ASA destinations (but even then providing connections via SIN on 3K and SQ - what a slap in the face to MH).

So I phoned QF to check on availability PER-KUL. It was only available in J on the day I wanted and the points cost was 53k instead of 50k. It seems MH redemptions may have a similar policy to CX where you have to pay a premium.
